    Pivot 429 2012 Aluminum - Frame Weight

What is the actual frame weight for a medium. I noticed all of the reviews say it's lighter than the 2011's but no one actually has the stated weight. Thanks.

The weight of this frame is quite elusive. Apparently I'm not the only one interested given the number of views this thread has had. If you have it let us know.

My medium weighed 6.5lb on the shop scale with shock and collar, no BB or front derailer.

Thanks for weighing in : ) 6.3-6.5 is completely reasonable for a bike this good.

SO the $1K question.. how much lighter is the carbon frame? I gave up caring up weight... but am curious from the standpoint of extra cost and fragility of carbon... is it worth it?

I saw 5.7lbs for a medium green 429c. I think beyond the lighter weight; the shorter chain stays and 142 rear axle might be a more significant factor.

    Pivot 429 2012 Aluminum - Frame Weight

The 2012 alloy has a 142 rear. I wish I could justify a carbon, but the alum version is so darn good. CS length is only slightly shorter.

Justify? There is no justifying what we do.

Why bother. You know you are going to get one. Especially in a couple weeks when I post a bunch of hi-res photos of mine. I got my El Commadante Ult based on your recommendations. I would like to return the favor.

How do you like the Ventana? I was looking at the new Nimble 9 which has shorter stays, but is heavy. Lynskey - very nice. I have a custom Lynskey road frame which I love and I not convinced that an SS frame would ride better than my Ventana. The same goes for Gunnar. ?WaltWorks. I have one but the EBB keeps creaking, hence the El Comandante. Very nice, and I can get shorter stays, but would it be superior to my Ventana? If I was younger and rode in the chunk more on a rigid, it would be an easy decision. Now, my Ventana just works and works extremely well. I have the same dilemma with my 429.

Check out the Ventana forum for an update. I really like the El Com. It could very easily be my only ride. We have a lot of sand here in Michigan and this bike, as you say, just works. I thought the full ridged would be hard to handle for my not so young body but I really enjoy riding it. I will say, while night riding I have had the bars bounce out of my hands hitting roots that I didn't see. Only crash once from that though. Its a fast climber. Very fast.
