New Pivot Announced for Release in Summer 2014

Now that I have your attention, start the speculation on what gap the model will fill. Personally, I'm still waiting on the Mach 5 replacement.

529 I hope but probably not since the 429 is likely the best seller in the lineup?

I'm guessing it'll be a Mach 527, something with 130mm of travel and 27.5 wheels to directly complete with the Santa Cruz Solo/5010 and the Turner Flux. A few of the guys at Pivot rave about their Les 27.5's.

If I had a ton of cash the Pivot lineup could take care of me with:

Les 29" for XC and endurance races
Mach 527 or similar for tighter or rockier XC and Trail
Mach 6 for the bigger stuff and "E" word
Phoenix for DH (if I had time to drive to a park)

Cocalis seems to really value efficiency and I'd expect something for those that would be over-biked with a Mach 6.

That makes sense. I'd be interested in a Mach 527.

Wait! They don't go to Press Camp. Or didn't last year.

Picture shows a rider climbing so a 527 makes some sense.

Would like to see a Solo competitor with something around 130-140 travel, but still slack and low!

Good point. Maybe a 527 and 529? Maybe asking a lot from a smaller brand.

Yes, but I don't think the Mach 429 is going anywhere if that's what you're implying. I suppose a longer travel (~130mm) "big brother" for the 429, is a possibility, but I'm hoping for a ~120mm "little brother" to the Mach 6. Make it a bit quicker handling, a tad more stretched out (while keeping a compact wheelbase), and with even snappier pedaling and lower weight.

My guess is a longer travel 29er, in the 150mm range. Other wise another 27.5 in the shorter travel range 120-130mm.

Sounds like a wonderful time to talk to your local shop though I know shouting into the digital night that is MTBR feels much better. No doubt it'll be worth the wait.

This! If Dave Turner doesn't come out with carbon Flux this would be high on my list for the 5010c replacement (Rigth behind the Knolly Fugitive )

Wasn't there a dealer announcement about a 27.5 5.7 that went out on Thursday?

The 6 is probably going to morph into something bigger and replace the Firebird.

If its an AM oriented 529er, they will have beaten Ibis to the punch again. And consequently, i'll probably buy the pivot.

Just bought a 429 Carbon with 120mm fork after waiting to see if Pivot do a 527 so my guess is a 527. I think Pivot are missing a lighter duty modern trail bike in the 120mm travel range, the 5.7 is good but a little tall compared to the new generation bikes.

Actually very glad I bought the 429 C which sort of replaces my Mach 5 which is waiting for me to rebuild it. Might be a long wait I think the 429 is brilliant.

Not sure a longer travel 29er will happen with Pivot, the DW link seems to need quite long stays compared to some other suspension designs, look at the Specialized bikes. Not saying it won't happen but the stays could be quite long and it might loose it's climbing efficiency.

Re: New Pivot Announced for Release in Summer 2014

I've been hearing from good sources that it will be a 120 to 140mm travel 27 inch like the new Turner Flux, since last fall.
Which would be the front runner for my baby momma's next bike if it is that.

New Pivot Announced for Release in Summer 2014

I'm betting the Mach 5.7 gets bumped to 150mm/27.5 to compete with the Bronson and the Mach 6 bumped up to 165mm to compete with the Nomad. FB may be dropped this year, its had a good run.

Hoping it's around 130ish travel. I'd like a bit more than 120 for trips, but don't really want to lug 150+ around when I don't need it in TX.

I believe it is a 28.238096098237409274209387002819350239685 wheel size so that it is exactly between the 650B/non275 wheel size and 29'rs. BTW the rumor I heard was that the hemp is a new weave that acts as solar panels to recharge the battery.

Any thoughts on a Mach 4 replacement/revision? Carbon, 27.5" wheels, maybe upping the travel to 120mm or so? Seems like this model is a bit dated these days.

It also looks to me like the wheel size suggests a 29er. I'm going with a 120mm rear with a 140mm fork'd 29er... In carbon...

Since the 429c is their best seller, making an LT version allows them to capitalize on the 29er market. Just my $.02 worth...

I'm guessing a serious full-suspension XC race machine. 27.5 or 29, or maybe both for different sizes. Light and tuned for speeeeeed.

Agree that the pic does not suggest a freeridey/all-mountain/enduro type of rig.
Wow, GJ, Fruita, and Moab trails are riding great. This is a killer spring for riding!

    Fuel for your fires..

Well, if you REALLY want to read into things: the title of that section in the newsletter is:
    "Big Things Are Coming"

    Just sayin'.

I'd love to see an alloy mach 527 or 427 type bike. Something to help them get into the midwest market where we need a bit less travel than out in the mountains.
I lean towards something alloy because I think if they lower the cost of entry into the Pivot world they could rapidly expand into markets they are weak in (midwest for example).

Conjecture and geeking out over the next big thing sure is fun.

I'd like to see Pivot's version of the 5010...maybe a 1/2 degree slacker than the Solo with 135-140 travel and short wheelbase like the M6.

    The hot markets now are:

    27.5 and E- for Enduro..Mach 6 has that covered
27.5 125-140mm trail bike not really covered, I know Pivot offers the modded M5.7 in 27.5 but not really designed for the bigger hoops.
Longer travel 29rs 130-150mm range, definitely not covered.

So I am still guessing something like Mach 527, or Mach 529 of course +- travel at Pivots discretion.

In Pivot's long history have they ever announced two new full suspension bikes during their summer press camp? I wonder if they may have a 529 and a 527 ready.

Very nice. Can't say that it will replace my 429C for riding in Texas with the constant rocks, but looks to be a pretty nice bike. Looking forward to getting to try it out sometime.

    Exactly.
It is pretty low. Even the Mach6 seemed lower than the numbers would indicate while riding.
I guess one needs to try one before passing any judgments.
It's a XC bike after all, so it might be just right.

Yeah, it's pretty normal for a bike in the XC travel range (12.8-13.1) . Once you start getting into trail bikes (120+ travel), it goes up with 13.2+.

I got to put in several miles on the aluminum prototype for this bike and I was pretty amazed at what it was capable of doing. I rode several of my favorite sections that have lots of high speed drops (1-2' tall, not Rampage stuff) and chunky rocks to skip thru and it felt completely stable. I set so many PR's on my STRAVA that some guys were asking what I was riding that day....It's def on my short list.

Nailed it with the geo. The blue looks nice too. I can't wait to test ride one.
Wow, GJ, Fruita, and Moab trails are riding great. This is a killer spring for riding!

We're actually shipping 1 Large & 1 Medium bike to each of the Demo trucks after the press camp is done. Large & Med frames are in production so those will be available first but I don't know the projected availability date. Dan23 will know those details best, I just remember that we're trying to get them here ASAP

    Sounds pretty much spot on to me. The Solo is 13.1 w/ a 130mm fork & 125mm rear travel, the Flux is 12.8 w/ 120 & 120.

I absolutely love the rest of the geo too. With chainstay and wheelbase measurements nearly identical to a TRc (looking at size L), it should be a wicked fun bike. And with the DW link you know it's gonna be super efficient as well.

Yeah, the geometry numbers look really good to me. Was hoping for maybe a lee-tle more travel, maybe 130mm, but otherwise this is the bike I've been waiting for Pivot to release for about two years now. Yippee!!!

Just more info, mainly the promo video posted above. We're also showing more complete Phoenix bikes with final graphics.

Nice job. 115mm, 155mm. Not too hard to figure out what fits in between.

Kudos to CC and the Pivot crew...Looks like a lot of great ideas went into this bike. Nice work.

CS645-Thats what I was thinking, 130mm to fill the gap which is really close what the 27.5 modded Mach 5.7 is.

I would love to own this bike, with 29r wheels of course. Love the updates and dropped weight.

Pivot please update the 429C when you get the chance..Thanks

Sorry about the posting pre release I guess when we are on the other side of the world we sometimes get to stumble on things that the rest of you might not see as your asleep.

Anyway it is close to what I was hoping for only that I recently bought a 429 Carbon so will be waiting a while for a new Pivot to add to the stable. The Geo numbers are close to my 429 C with 120 fork so it looks like it will be a fast trail bike or longish travel XC bike. Love the weight and short wheelbase. I assume you could slacken the head angle with a longer fork for those who want a little slacker. I also like the graphics and colour options.

For me it is probably the Goldilocks bike, just right.

Well if I were into XC I might love it, but I'm not...so I don't. I little more travel and a little slacker & I'd be very curious.

We're going with the same logic as the Les 27.5 in thinking that riders who would fit an XL frame are more likely to just go with a 29" wheel bike. NOT giving up on the tall guys!

Why is everyone saying it's low when it's the same height as the 429c and other bikes like the Turner Czar, Flux, etc ?

    What am I missing?

Was hoping for a ~5", light, do it all bike similar to the Sight and solo...looks cool enough though and plenty fast. When's the Mach 5 Carbon come out?

What's retail for frame only? I guess Pivot is moving away from aluminum. It'd be nice to have that option for those that don't want to pony up for carbon. I know, can't please everyone!

I have a question on rear shock mounting. With a lot of frames these days it is difficult or impossible to fit a large bottle inside the frame. Consensus has been to turn the shock around to clear the lever. Why don't manufacturers sell the bike with the shock turned around in the first place to have the lever at the rear and more out of the way? Also is it OK to do this with this bike?

So because I am 6'3", I get punished with only having a 29er option. That's not logic, that sounds like our federal government's type of thinking. I'm sure Pivot will loose a number of sales with that type of thinking......shame shame shame

I don't think punished is the right word. Maybe just unfortunate if you are a die hard Pivot fan. I am in the same sizing boat but look at it this way: there are a lot of other manufacturers with options out there so even the tall guys have a lot of great 27.5 choices, just not Pivots.

What would be the correct word? Because I'm a big fan of the M4 and 650B.......and had my sights on trying a short travel FS 650B Pivot. So 2015 is out for us tall guys and gals.

I will hold onto my M4 for another 18 months......maybe I will put a 650B front wheel on it and enjoy my other 650B bikes

It's no problem running the shock "reversed" but not everybody wants to run it that way (less moving weight, don't run bigger bottles, etc..) so we just send it out with the lever forward and let the riders decide how they prefer to set it up. AFAIK this frame has clearance for a full size bottle as is. I'm slated to do some suspension testing on one of the bikes this week so I'll be able to test out bottle fit then.
