Loose lower link on Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon

Servicing a friends Pivot the other day and the lower suspension link has some serious play in it. Before I pull it all apart are these user serviceable bearings, does pivot sell a replacement kit, or are there any aftermarket options that are superior?

Pretty surprised really as he is a newer rider with less than 20 rides on the bike and the slop is very noticeable. Is this a common issue?

Loose lower link on Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon

Oh geez. Is that uncommon or a fluke? I have two friends with identical bikes and one is really sloppy one is seemingly fine.

I am going to say uncommon but I only have about 20 rides on my 5.7C as well. I check my bike out every so often when I clean her and last check there was no play what so ever. I would call Pivot or go back to the dealer your friend bought the bike from and see if they can't set you up with a new set of bearings.

I have replaced my lower link bearings twice on my 2011 5.7 aluminum. I check the pivot bolts often to make sure they are torqued properly.

I have had to replace the dw-link bearings the last two springs after riding in wet and muddy conditions all winter. There was only a little play in the lower link, lots of creaking though. Pivot hooked me up with the wider bearings this time.

Loose lower link on Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon

That is exactly what it was. We took it apart and the bearings had completely disintegrated. Completely gone. Dust. Ha ha. He called pivot and was told that their bearing manufacturer had changed specs halfway through the product run and not told them. Said to send back back the lower link and they old take care of it.

    Cool.
