    5.7 Headset too tight

I'm having a problem with the headset on my 2013 5.7. If i tighten it slightly it binds up creating lots of drag when turning the bars. When I loosen it to where i can turn it freely, it's not tight enough and the headset is loose. It looks as if the piece in the top part of the headset that has the slit and slides down is causing the issue but cant tell for certain.

Do you have a pic? That'll make it easier to see if all the parts are there and in the right order. It does sound like a spacing issue so I'm guessing something isn't in there or is maybe the wrong part. Just guessing right now tho....

Are you loosening the stem bolts prior to tightening the top cap? Sounds like you might just need to get the stem properly seated before tightening the top cap. Make sure that you don't over torque your top bolt on the cap as you can damage the internals.
Also, If you're comfortable doing so, pop, inspect and re-seat your headset. If you got your 5.7 at an LBS just stop by and have them take a look. Having access to the right tools is handy. They can quickly determine whether the internals are functioning properly with the headset extracted. They can also examine the headtube to make sure the headset is seating properly.

Do you have the OEM sealed or semi-sealed headset? Or something else?

Thanks for the replies guys. There's a Cane Creek 56 1.5"- 1.25" reducer headset in the bottom cup. Turns out the bearing was in wrong in the bottom cup. The Cane Creek was installed right side up(where you could read the words) which is actually upside down. Flipped around, all is good
