    2009 Firebird frame differences

I am thinking about a Firebird, and there is a 2009 for sale locally. Other than the 135mm QR dropouts and the RP23 vs. the Fox CTD shock on the 2013, what are the differences between a 2009 and a 2013 Firebird frame? Are there any durability issues with the 2009?

the shock flanges on the down tube have an extra cross support... i think Pivot can install the support on the 2009 if it doesn't already have one...

    2009 Firebird frame differences

They installed the brace on my 2010 frame. I don't know that it made a difference.

My 2009 frame is still going strong; the only other thing I can think of is to make sure it has the newer revised carbon rocker that is thicker than the original design. I'm not sure what year they replaced the thinner older version (my 2009 has the thicker version).

I'd really like the 142 rear of the new models, but the bird is pretty rigid in the rear as is and I can't justify the cost.

My 09 is still going strong. I ride AM 2-5 times a week, and hit the bike parks 2-3 weekends a season.
My frame has some war wounds, but still gets the compliments.

As someone whose busted the older model, I highly recommend getting the brace on the front of the tower.

Is the brace something bolts in or does it have to be brazed in? Can I install it myself?

I can't recall. Call Pivot and talk to Ken, he'll hook you up.

They bolt on. Worth doing as my frame broke as well. Haven't had any issues since the brace was installed. As noted give Pivot a call they will fix you up.

I think there was an upper link upgrade at some point (don't remember the exact year)
The new link had thicker bearing mounts.
