Using a trail cam for MTB action shots

Following up on a similar thread where this came up.
How good are trail cams for shooting MTB action photos?

I am comparing to a gopro (with remote) that can shoot a burst of 30 photos in 3 seconds. At this high rate of 10 photos per second there will be a few good ones.

From what I can find some trail cams do have burst mode, but they do not provide much details other than it exists. It seems that for hunters it is not necessary, they want to know which animals passed, not high quality perfect moment images of them.

The allure of the trail cams is that they cost a quarter of a go pro.

Does anyone have experience with those? Burst rates, photo quality, recommended models?

With a go pro when shooting in HD you can get stills from the video footage. I think that would be the way to go. Set up a Gopro and ride by it. Look at your footage and freeze what shots you want using a movie editor or something. You will have the best of both worlds Good video and some stills.

Go pros are awesome you really can not go wrong with them. We have one and love it.

Thanks, there was already a thread about it, I don't need video, only stills.
If I do end up using a go pro I will use the burst and not take images from a video.

Why use a Trail Cam? The quality of these typically suck... If your looking for something that will detect you and follow you - look at the SOLOShot

This rig goes between your camera and tripod and then your rider wears a tracker that the SOLOShot follows.
