    Race Photography?

    Hey guys,

Race Day Rush and Sportszone's Photography are places I know of that take pics around the course, but I swear there's way more photographers around and on the course... are there any others that post their pictures online for review?

    Would love to know.

    Thanks!

    Race Pics

I don't do race photography as such, but since Buckwallow is my home turf I do spectate the O-cup some years if I don't have other plans on the day.
And I take the camera and make some pics, but not trying to in any way shoot every rider or make coin off of that.
The ones I like make it onto my Picasa Web Albums, linked in my Signature. Here's a few samples..

Is the Buck-O-Cup on The Monsters' to-do list this year?

It sure is! For me, since it's usually where I have my best result of the season and it's just so much fun, it's a "must do".

We're thinking of going up a day early this year to fit in some extra riding too!

^ Cool. For a cell phone, some of those look pretty darn good. Keep it up!

I don't get to too many races, but did hit a couple up last year:

    Just for fun

I do some for fun. Mostly DH since it's more exciting than XC. I occasionally sell a few photos. My biking photos.

Wherewolf - I love the puddle photo.

I shoot for fun. Here are some of mine:

Here's my best action shot (but not the best focus) - he wasn't seriously hurt and completed the race.

How do you get all that motion blur? Do you pan the camera as you take the photo? What stop are you exposing at?

    Thanks

lots and lots of practice panning. Bikers are easy, rally cars I still am awful at.
Depending on the lens/zoom/situation/lighting, it could be anywhere from 1/40 to 1/160
For each one of those pictures, there are another 500 that come out 90% as nice. That's the hard part, capturing EVERY racer in the perfect shot.

Thanks. I guess its a balance of leaving the shutter open long enough to blur the back ground but fast enough to keep the subject sort of sharp.

I have some secrets to make it easier, but I would rather keep it a secret. It took me a few years to really nail it down.

I sell photos on my web site after the racers but also can offer on-site printing at events. I shoot mostly in Oregon.

Here is a link to a slideshow of some Cyclocross races I shot this year. Not necessarily a 'best of' as these were images I allowed for use at the awards banquet:
