    A Few Recent Wildlife Images

I thought I'd post these here, although not bike related. My main hobby is Wildlife/Landscape photography and hiking. Biking is fast becoming a contender though.

These shots were taken over the past few months while out on hiking/photography outings. I use a Pentax Kx and usually either a Tair 3 300mm F4.5 Preset lens or a Takumar 200mm F3.5 Preset lens for most wildlife shots.

I spend a lot of time getting close to animals, often spending a couple of hours for them to become used to me. Once they are comfortable with my presence, they sometimes allow me to walk among their herd, even occasionally coming right up to me (I've petted a few mule deer over the years).

At first, they are usually leery

But after a long time waiting, and keeping still, they start to accept my presence.

And often let me walk among them

My favorite are probably elk in the winter. Their sparring and bugling echoing through the mountains is really something to experience.

And occasionally I get a rare experience, like being able to follow a pack of coyotes for over a mile without them knowing

Well, those are a few of my wildlife photos. Hope you enjoyed them! I can't wait to get more into the photography side of mountain biking.

Great photos! I love the lighting on some and you really nailed the depth-of-field to make the subjects pop.

Wow, amazed you got as close as you did. My wife is an aspiring photographer and she was very impressed with your work!

nicely exposed considering all the snow.

nicely focused too - have you many more M42 lenses?

I used to use a 135 f3.5 SMC takumar on a 5D2 and it was suprisingly sharp

Yes, I really only shoot with old manual focus glass, most of them are M42.

Right now my M42 lenses are:

Super Takumar 28mm F3.5 (second version)
    Super Takumar 35mm F3.5
    Super Takumar 50mm F1.4
    Auto Takumar 50mm F2.2
    SMC Takumar 55mm F1.7
    Takumar 135 F3.5 Preset (silver edition)(10 Blades)
    Takumar 200mm F3.5 Preset (18 Blades)
    Tele Takumar 200mm F5.6 Preset (10 Blades)
    Tele Takumar 300mm F6.3 Preset (12 Blades)
    Tair 3 300mm F4.5 Preset (16 Blades)

I have the kit lens as well as a Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens, but I rarely use them as I much prefer using the old fully manual M42 lenses, both for their IQ and the very superior build quality.

A new (to me) Pentax K20D is waiting at the post office for me to pick up tomorrow . It will be a big step forward from using my Pentax Kx. As I can't really afford the K5, this will have to do for now.

Really nice shots, in some of those it looks like the animals are looking at you and they are keeping an eye on you.
