    hi there

your best for pinoy mountain biking info would be the following Yahoo Group:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTBAddict/

there's another one called the Pinoy Cycling Network.

to answer your question, yes, most of the stuff available in the bike shops here (in cartimar for example) are genuine. they are cheaper sicne mos tof it is made in china/taiwan. particularly frames. giant makes good frames (they also manufacture frames for other companies)

if in doubt on the quality of a component, ask the shop people.

"MADE IN TAIWAN" is the key word

that's it, they are made in taiwan. are those american and europian plus the japanese shimano companies opened their market in taiwan? aren't those products sold in manila which are coming from taiwan just imitations???

    doesn't necessarily mean...

    hi again

Being labelled Made In Taiwan, Made In China doesn't automatically make a frame or component fake.

Production is cheaper in Taiwan and China so that means more value to the end user, most of the time. Some of the frames and components you see on display are overruns too, surplus, etc., but all good quality. Marzocchi EXRs are made in Taiwan by Suntour, for example. Some Jamis frames are Made in China. You can check out the Jamis yourself, in a high-end shop in Rockwell- Power Bikes. I doubt this shop would sell a fake

I am not saying they are ALL legit- trust me I've seen a few frames that are knock-offs. They'd be easy to spot: bad paint job, mismatched decals, bad welds, etc.

    Your concern is understandable though.

    Happy trails...

I reckon most of the frames around the market nowadays are Made in Taiwan. They're making a good quality frame and yes, production in Taiwan is cheaper. 3 of my MTB's are all made in taiwan and at the end of the day, I'm still confident to smash them.
