    Work Day at the Moon!

Since most of the trees at the mOOn are bare, we decided it was time for a serious work day! It was getting difficult to ride some of the trails because the leaves were covering all the rocks and roots, then add all the rain we received recently and it was more fun than a barrel of blue-butted apes! Today Lee and I got a not so bright, but still early start. We got the blowers out and started going crazy. We were able to get Buddy's, Slide, JKE, The Dark, Mo-Zee, Peak-A-Boo, Rocket, Rock Waterfall, Thorny Hollow, some of the Deacon trail and Nemesis, Watkins, part of Skinnys, and most of Nature's Way cleared of leaves and debris before getting soaked. We also made a couple re-routes on The Dark and Watkins as some sections were getting more than a little sloppy! We hope everyone enjoys the newly cleared trails and be patient, there is more to come!

You've ridden the rest, now ride the best...mOOn Lake!

    Good job!

    Another first at mOOn today...

...having 2 crews working on two different venues: XC trails with Big Daddy Todd and I leave clearing while Finus, Bro, Chuck, Ty on the Free Ride trails! See Free Ride pics in our other post if you like.

Here's more to chew on about the workday, add "Skills Area" to Big Daddy Todd's list also to the all cleaned out list and it will have a few new items added in the next few weeks. A minor reroute on "Dark" to Avoid the Noid now yields a new logover...yippie more WOOD

Thanks to PM Clif for getting NEPMTBA the Stihl backpack blower to use, it is so powerful and just shoots the leaves right off the trail!

i'm such of mixed feelings about not seeing this post though, my heart want's to be out there and help.

but then again I would not have had such a fabulous ride out at Mountain Top either.

    *sigh*

LOL, on the horns of a dilemna, huh? Tomorrow, we are going throught with the grader and then following that with a big steaming pile of asphalt! LOL! We were up there again today, talk about sore! Not too much more to do, though. I don't even know if I could sling a leg over my bike right now.

    Good job!

    Bear:

Have no fear it wasn't advertised to the gen public and it was a workday for us loyal MLP guys, besides we only had 2 leaf blowers up and running, so you would have stood around and got leaves blown into your shoes!... LOL Not to mention NEPMTBA does a lot of park work to help the PM, Clif out. Like leaf blowing parking lots and disc golf, keeps us in good graces as he's a great guy to us. I don't know if the gen public would like to have a go at stuff like that rather than mt bike trails. Just a little return for all he does for NEPMTBA and mt bikers in the park, including the Stihl backpack blower he got specifically for NEPMTBA to make our job easier. Mt Top was your better choice!

    BDT:

    YOUR THROTTLES STUCK AGAIN!... LMAO

And I gotta say you are the best, miles of trails cleaned and free of leaves with more trail signs placed on trees! That was a grand effort beyond all expectations! Props to you my friend!

Add to the list of trails blown clean along with yesterday: 5 Tree, Moto, Berts, T-Rex 1, T-Rex 2: Nitemare, Service Rd/Cyclo-X, Big Blue, rock Waterfall. T-Rex2 recieved a few tweeks and reroutes for more Flowy Fun!.... More to come!

    Finus, Joe, Chuck, and Ty:

Truly amazing stuff happening on that side of the mountain! I have so many pics from the MLP workdays and Free Ride it will take days to get them out of my new camera as I am still learning all the options this freek'in little tech thing has in it. It need s a throttle and a can of either... LOL

So watching Ty and the Finus crew is all about AIRTIME! At the mOOn it's great to be surrounded by super talent!

    Finus:

    Great work today once again!

Please send me the links to all the DH bikes we talked about today. I will finish the work we spoke of on the chainsaw dressing of the wooden kickers this week. I hope you find your keys! I like the idea of the Plan B loop and I can't wait for Chriffer to get back form Texas to see this stuff! 10 bucks says he has a new bike with a week after that! But after Bear and I saw him jump at Raystown we are all in for many thrills! On the other hand Ty is def the test pilot of the Free Ride stuff. I don't know if you saw the first leap of the 12 footer, he actually pulled up and landed about 20 feet beyond. It was a good idea to block off the final kicker cause that baby will launch ya really far and Ty would go for the whole fifty footer! Crossed up of course!... LOL

I did see riding today at MLP: Bob B, Gracie, Janine, Rich and Lisa, and the one and only Chuck Menziff and all had nice words and thanks for all the hard work at the mOOn, It was kinda of a early Christmas present from NEPMTBA to give to all mt bikers who ride the moon to get the trails all cleaned up to ride!

Go to our website and check the shoutbox for the linky to all the pics!

    Good job!

    Now, Now...

... the trail that takes you too the Free Ride is called NFS or "Not For Sissies" for a reason, but it could also be "Not For SPODES"

Besides we always have the secret Romulan salute... LOL

Don't be too quick to judge, slowdave. After you see someone at the appropriate skill level ride it you'll see that its really not that bad. And there's a reason for the 2 smaller drops that start the trail; beginners can practice and it serves as a warning for what lies ahead. There will also be plenty of trail signs to let you know what you're in for and what skill level is required. We also have plans to go back up Plan B a little ways and start another jump line there where we can throw in 1 or 2 beginner level jumps for riders to progress.

As far as the freeride trail is concerned, it's certainly not a beginner trail but every inch of it will be thoroughly test ridden before it's open and anything that looks too sketchy will be fixed. It requires a different kind of skill and it's own level of risk but certainly no more than associated with bombing down any of the other single track if you're going fast enough. Most of the features are pretty committing but where possible "safety nets" have been incorporated in the event of coming up short. Also, in spots where wrecks are most likely to occur, the trail is void of big trees, pointy rocks, and other obstacles that can exacerbate the situation. There's no guarantee you won't get hurt riding any of the trails at the Moon but no matter your skill level or the trail your riding, you should know what you are getting into before taking the plunge. You should be confident in your skill level and your equipment (an XC bike won't cut it) before riding any of this. It's shaping up to be a great trail, but I'd hate to see someone get hurt by getting in over their head. I think for 99.9 percent of the people that ride the Moon, this won't be a problem. It's a short section of trail so far but has taken a huge amount of work so there aren't many go arounds at the moment. In the future it would be nice to have an intermediate trail that riders can progress on. If time and other factors permit, I'm on board.

The freeride section is amazing! Great work by all everyone involved. Like JD was saying it all comes down to not riding over your head and as long as you know your limits everything will be fine. I know I would never try riding that, hell I hate even walking down it, but I love going there and watching the people that can ride it. It is so much fun to watch someone that has the skill to do it!
