Wiss expected to be crowded this weekend...

(AP Release: 05/13/2008) Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania DNR offices are expecting heavier than normal trail traffic in the Wiss system and other trail systems in the southeastern part of the Commonwealth this coming weekend. Said DNR Officer Joe Primanti, "With spring weather finally arriving we anticipate heavier than normal use on trails, especially in the Philadelphia area. When you add in the fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins are about to sweep the Philadelphia Flyers out of the Stanley Cup playoffs this coming Thursday night, there won't be any reason to stay inside and watch TV."

    LETS GO PENS!!!

    GO HOME FLYERS!!!

    Enjoy your off season.

A little less than 4 hours to face off. Hopefully a little less than 7 hours until the Pens are hoisting the EC Trophy.

If the Flyers didn't lose Timmonen this would be a different series. Crosby is a whiny beotch. I hope Hatcher knocks more of his teeth out.

Congrats to the Flyers for not getting swept. A very valiant performance for your last home game. See you next year.

Ah yes, the one proverbial gift of Philly culture (pardon the oxymoron), the cheesesteak. Only in Philly would they take something so painfully obvious and screw it up. Instead of making them with, say, real cheese and real steak, they make them with Steak-ums and Cheeze-Whiz. Now, pardon us while we turn our attention to Detroit. Bye-bye.

I'm not much of a hockey fan, but I'd be careful you Pen fans.

I have grown up a Yankee fan all my life, and a couple of years ago my friends and I talked crap about the Yanks being up 3-0 over Boston. We all know how that panned out.

Thats the beauty of close rivalry's. You just never know.

Let those Pens fans have their moment. I mean after something like 10 years of sucking, then just stockpiling draft picks because they sucked, having the team threaten to leave town because they were so bad no one would come watch them play, then have a superstar who whines so much the league figured we better give this kid some breaks, because they didn't need the embarassment of having one of their supposed stars actually breaking down in tears on the ice after every non-call, the law of averages has to work out in their favor eventually. They've received every break the league could possibly give them next to just handing them the cup. Enjoy your moment, because your financially sinking club won't be together for very long.

I think you have it wrong. Maybe in the sad little shops in Pittsburgh would they use steak-um, but here they use thinly sliced rib eye or something similar depending on the location. Now wiz, its an acquired taste. Everywhere also has American if you can't hang. But calling a cheeseburger a cheesesteak.....well thats just sad. Not to mention putting it on sliced bread with french fries and slaw. And for the record, its hard to screw up something that you invented, don't you think? How bout them Flyers? Oh and i forgot to mention... "Philly culture (pardon the oxymoron)" means a lot coming from someone who lives in West Virginia, Pittsburgh must seem like a beacon of hope. Poor guy.

The fact that primantis makes their cheesesteaks out of ground beef tells you how low on the priority list it is for them. I honestly don't even know why it is on the menu. It must be great living in Philadelphia playing second fiddle to NYC. How are those 10,000 losses treating the Philly fans? (Of course, the Pirates can't be far behind) "Philly Culture" is based on a fictional character. At least our statues are of real people. The Pens were due for a loss. Sunday is going to be fun.

Better then second fiddle to ....Ohio. Most people in Pittsburgh I saw were ordering the "cheesesteak" so I suppose they need to move it up the priority list. Those 10,000 losses took us to the playoffs last yea, you? Who are your statues of? Mister Rodgers and Gene Kelly (singing in the rain). Please do your homework before you start insulting Rocky. *Pittsburgh culture* Yins want to eat n'at? HAHAHA

Way to go Pens! Yeah, Hartnell and company have whined to every media outlet they could find for this series...I doubt they stop crying tomorrow. The disallowed goal was close, but would it have mattered if it's 5-1 or 5-0? No.

The cup is coming home in 08!

why don't yinz get a clue?

Please...home to Detroit. If you were watching hockey, not just the Pens, you'd know that.

Anyway...as someone who lived in Pittsburgh for 8 years after graduating from Pitt, I have lots of love for da 'Burgh. The riding in Western PA is great. (this is a MTB website, right?)
I miss living next to and riding Frick almost everyday.

BUT - as far as hockey, or Pittsburgh being a hockey town....get real.
The team WAS GOING TO LEAVE.
How can you even talk like you live in a real hockey town?

Admit it...this is just something to get fired up about until the Steelers start.
Your guns are all clean, the girl's out getting a perm., the trails are too wet...got to do something!

And to rip Philly culture...one word - yinzer.

Detroit isn't selling out games in the playoffs, and you criticize Pittsburgh?
The team leaving would have had nothing to do with fan support, it was all about politicians and arena funding. My take was it was all a front by the ownership group to force the politicians to act.

yeah, at least the '97 Flyers SCORED A GOAL or two on Detroit before being swept out of the playoffs. doesn't look like the cup will be visiting 'Da Burgh' anytime soon. in fact, this whole thread looks a little embarrasing to you Pens fans, now don't it? maybe Frick is gonna be a little crowded this Sunday?......

Hey - good luck signing your, what 12 free agents, this off-season.

well, statistically, the pens dont really have much of a chance - but anything can happen.

but you definitely did speak to soon about not scoring a goal and getting swept. that egg is right on your face. so while the 97 flyers MAY HAVE SCORED A GOAL before getting swept...at least the pen's didn't get swept.

i gotta hand it to detroit - they f'n played their asses off the first two games. the pen's just didn't answer their game, especially in game 2. not a beacon of false hope, just making things interesting. if detroit wins it, there's nothing we're going to be crying about. the team has come a great way from 2 years ago and detroit's team has assloads of experience. if detroit wins it, they definitely deserve it.

man you philly guys are an ornery bunch.

i love sports AND pittsburgh, but christ, my 'burgh ego isn't that large and i can give credit where credit is due. and frankly, philly freaking sucked in their series, they just didn't step up like they did the rest of the year and they lost. wah. go ahead, keep bashing the pens if it makes you feel better.
Oh noes. I'm going to drink the Kool-Aid.

i believe it was you pens fans who threw the first punch by starting this thread, and we're the ornery ones? whatever. and just for the record, as far as philly sucking in that series goes, I would have loved to see how that series would have panned out if the pens had lost their top defensive pairing....but you didn't hear any crying from this side of the susq. philly took it in stride and accepted the loss. if say gonchar and whitney had been sidelined, then i doubt sid the baby would have been able to fight back the tears.

The Pens did just fine. 2-4 loss in the SCF while not ideal, is respectable. At least they were there and not watching on TV like the rest of the world.

Three other teams had the chance to take them down along the way and couldn't do it. they went 0-4, 1-4 & 1-4. Laugh all you want, the Pens are laughing last.

Philly fans are really looking like pathetic, sore losers. The real hockey fans in PHL should be embarrased of you.

Congrats Wings, you played better. It was a FUN ride. See you next year.

i believe Detroit is laughing last, dumba$$. what's the matter TRGoat, can't take a little criticizing without getting your panties in a bunch? how's that medicine tasting now? go ahead and keep calling Philly fans sore losers just because we are sticking up for our beloved team that was verbally assaulted by some wannabe from WV and the rest of you yinzers who jumped on his bandwagon. and now your trying to turn this whole thing around and call US the bad guys. it really sheds a light on the collective intelligence level in steel town. please, prove me right by launching another attack on how horribly the Flyers played against Sir Sid and Co. talk about bitter fans, sheesh, let it go already.

Uhh, actually, the Red Wings are laughing last.

Philly fans are really looking like pathetic, sore losers. The real hockey fans in PHL should be embarrased of you.

I actually am a real hockey fan in Philly...used to play hockey before I started mountain biking. We all got over it here. See, we have a winning baseball team to follow now all summer. Now all you have is Steelers Mini Camp. I lived there. I know. It is a shame that PNC Park is so nice.

Congrats Wings, you played better. It was a FUN ride. See you next year.[/QUOTE]

It was fun...going from worst to Conference finals...having a strong nucleus of signed players...See you next year.

Ohh, BTW, when I am not riding this weekend, I'll be hanging out watching a professional road race...you might recall Pittsburgh used to have one, years ago.

    Enjoy!

The Pens played better than the Flyers this year. The Wings played better than everyone this year. That's how it goes. There is no shame or bitterness in doing what 28 other teams could not do.

Roadie, haven't we already discussed how weak it to personally attack a geographic location over a sporting event?

If you are a true hockey fan, you should be embarrassed over this guy ranting and raving long after the Flyers defeat. He's oozing bitterness and apparently, so are you. I'm embarrassed over the few classless fans in Pittsburgh doing the same thing today.

Geez, i'm sorry, i lost my head. i should have given you a little time to get over your SCF loss hangover. maybe then you'd be able to converse rationally. but you're right, TRG the name calling was uncalled for.

in all seriousness, philly took their loss in stride with no bitterness whatsoever. apparently pittsburgh has done the same. we're both happy about the direction our teams are going, so the next couple of years look bright, right? can't we all just get along??? besides, life's not just all about hockey. now lets all get on our bikes and enjoy the offseason!

TRG i was trying to put an end to this ridiculous insanity but you had to go and attack roadie. you can say that i'm bitter and that i'm embarassing all you want, it just shows what an incredible hypocrite you are. and this has nothing to do with who's team is better than who's. it's about you. you talk about personal attacks being weak, huh? who was the guy that posted gary roberts flipping off "the cryers"? who was the guy that devoted a post to personally attacking darien hatcher? i believe that was you who did that. you didn't see any of us stooping to that level did you? no. but i guess it was ok for you to do as long as the pens were winning right? take a look in the mirror buddy and you'll see who the real classless fan is. oh i forgot, you obviously can't see that because your the only "true" hockey fan. i'm embarrased for you. maybe it's time you shut up and stop embarrasing your city.

OK - both of you go to time out.

I have a great friend / form college roommate coming into town for the bike race...we are just back on speaking terms. Years ago, we almost got into a fist fight at a playoff game at the Igloo...yes, it's ridiculous.

Anyway - point is, I didn't get as fired up or enjoy the games as much when the Flyers beat the Crapitals or Habs...I'm sure beating the Sens was not as fulfilling as beating the Flyers...

I think the only think the Pens fans were uncool about was booing Zetterberg. He was awesome, and deserved better.

Again, this is a MTB forum. GO ride your bike.

For those of you who are going to Wissahickon, there is a running event on the Northwestern Ave. side of the park tomorrow in the morning. Should be fine riding from the Inn to Lincoln, but of course it will be crowded...

Booing Zetterberg was as bad as the classless PGH fans that booed Jagr in the Rangers series. We have quite a few classless fans here. Most were too young to remember what he did for this team though.

We all have fans with no class.

Riding all weekend. Been a few weeks since I've had the chance to do so. Enjoy your ride.

Hate to say I told you so...

Hossa to Wings, Malone to Lightning...

    Sorry. I couldn't resist.
I was actually planning a ride at the Wiss after work when a co-worker (a Devils fan) yelled over that Hossa signed w/ Detroit.

Anyway, for anyone who actually bought one of these -
    http://shop.nhl.com/product/index.js...y_bestsell_txt
    then I don't feel bad for you...you're a tool.

    happy trails.
