    Wednesday Afternoon

With some brand new custom "Black Betty" graphics on my bike (thanx to Nicole P. of Nitemare Graphics) I just had to take her out and get her dirty. I hit the same stuff we hit Sunday plus a few more miles exploring the logging road we didn't ride. It was even muddier today than it was Sunday if you can believe that.

Nice goth-ish look. I'm thinking my Heckler would look pretty cool with "SARGE" in military-style stencil.
    smells like cotton candy.....

    Wink

I dunno what it is. Part of an old railroad trestle maybe.
I think it was a "dock" for Noah's Ark...

    Here's what it was...
There were a few that went over that valley and that rail line has 3 tunnels on it.

This pic was the construction of one trestle, that would of been fun to ride an MTB over it(when it was completed of course)

March 31, 1831, the legislature granted a charter to the Little Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad. The road was eventually built along the original line that Brobst surevyed in 1825. Construction occurred from 1835 to 1838, when it was halted due to the failure of the Bank of America, Philadelphia. Work was resumed in 1853, under a new name, Catawissa, Williamsport, Erie Railroad. It was not until 1854, that the first train navigated the line to Milton. The line became the Catawissa Railroad in 1860. In 1872, the line became part of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. This fine, wooden trestle took the train across the narrows at the Mainville Gap. Remnants of the stone foundations can be seen today on the facing hillsides.
The Catawissa Railroad is also famous in Molly Maguire history. In 1875, during the long strike, undercover Pinkerton agent, James McParlan, tried to incite striking miners to burn down one of the high wooden trestles that the Catawissa line was famous for. The striking miners were too smart for the agent provocateur, and no one showed up on the arranged night.

No. We've never done it, only heard about it. We think we know where the trailhead is but we've yet to explore that trail. I hear that the tunnel is so long that in the middle you can't see light from either end and it's pitch black. Have you ridden it Lee? We've definitely had that one on the to - do list for quite awhile. We'll all have to hit it this spring.

    Good job!

    nanker:

Ya, I have been through it with lights of course. It is quite a way from the trestle via the railbed. Good ride that day. There is another tunnel on that same rail line, but it has 3 feet of water in it, summer is the time to ride that one. There is no snow in either one of the tunnels right now.. LOL

I guess I should add it is private propery and I spoke with the guy from Catawissa, who owns the old rail line from Catawissa back to the tunnel, but he is trying to get a trail made out of it, so he is a good guy and I don't think he minds use of it by mt bikers.
