    Very Sad Day indeed...

My thoughts and prayers go out to this man's family and friends....
This occurred on/or near the A-Line downhill run somewhere between the Firetower and the Air Field I believe by the way the article read...

Boyertown man dies in bike accident on Mount Penn
    11/11/2012
A Boyertown man was killed Sunday while riding his bicycle on Mount Penn, officials said.
Christopher D. Hallman, 34, was with a group of between 15 and 20 cyclists who were riding in the area Sunday morning and early afternoon.
Hallman was riding by himself in the area off of Skyline Drive near Drenkle Field between the Pagoda and the fire tower just before 2 p.m., officials said.
Hallman apparently tried to ramp over a rock on the trail, but fell off of the bike and landed on his head and neck, officials said. Another biker came up behind him and found him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Berks County coronerís office at 2:42 p.m.
Hallman died of multiple injuries, officials said. The death was ruled an accident.

Wow... was just forwarded this information from a riding bud.....
Tragic. Feeling for his family in their loss.
Just goes to show how quickly something can happen in doing this sport that we all love. And, how we often take it for granted when we get back to the car safe after.
    Enjoy every ride.

I notice the original article was updated with more info. He was wearing a helmet, elbow pads, and leg protection. I think the statement from the fire chief is encouraging:

Reading Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Kemery said he could not recall a fatal accident on the trail.

"Here's a guy who was apparently extensively into it with a bike designed to do this sort of thing with the proper safety equipment," he said. "What exactly happened, we don't know, but he was being prudent in what he was doing."
