Vacation in Pennsylvania
Hi,
We are a Danish family on vacation in the US. in week 28 and 30. We will be visiting Pennsylvania by car. Week 28 from Washington to Niagara and week 30 from Niagara to New York.
Could you guys recommend nice places (cottages/B&B) close to nice trails (family oriented) .
We also need places to rent cycles.
All good advices are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the US
I have no real Knowledge of north central or north west PA (Pennsylvania), but I can tell you that southwestern PA may prove to be an interesting spot to visit. Pittsburgh is the main economic center, but I would recommend that you perhaps check out the area know as the Laurel Highlands.
There are several exceptional areas to stay, but the best for all around family adventure is Ohiopyle, PA. Ohiopyle offers great bicycle trail and rentals, some cool guest houses, and family friendly whitewater rafting. http://www.wilderness-voyageurs.com/ is a good place to start. They can help you find rentals and lodging.
a few miles north of Ohiopyle is Frank LLoyd Wright's Fallingwater. This is a modern architectual masterpiece, and I am certain you and your family will enjoy the beautiful setting. A few miles south is Nemacolin Woodlands resort. It is a very lavish resort where you can enjoy fine dining and a bit of pampering while enjoying the worthless American Dollar.
Ohiopyle is about 4 hours by car from Buffalo NY. If you want any more information feel free to reply or PM me.

I assume you mean New York city because Niagra is in New York (state). Check out Jim Thorpe, PA. You'll practically drive right by it on your way from Niagra to NYC.

Hill Home Forge is located right on Flagstaff Rd. Which gives you access to FLAGSTAFF MOUNTAIN, MAUCH CHUNK RIDGE, & TWIN PEAKS http://www.bikejimthorpe.com/trails.php3
We also need places to rent cycles.
These guys rent bikes and can point you to the local trails. http://www.bikejimthorpe.com/

Another vote for Jim Thorpe
Has everthing that you mentioned on your "wish list" of things. Plus, a couple of restaurants, the Railroad/steam engine, rafting, etc.
Blue Mountain Sports rents bikes and is right in town. (www.bikejimthorpe.com) Trail difficulty levels in the area of children/family up to "expert level mtb". Blue Mountain Sports will steer you in the right direction.
Sounds like a winner for the eastern part of Pennsylvania.

My friend has a B&B that is close to Jim Thorpe, Pa and other prime mtn bike locations. The B&B is within minutes of 3 major highways

There is a bike shop in the middle of Jim Thorpe that rents bikes.

My recommendation is Wellsboro Pennsylvania. It is home to the so called "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania". It is a quaint victorian town. We always stay at La Belle Au Berge bed and breakfast, probably our favorite b and b in the world. There is a wonderful rail trail that the whole family will enjoy. .
