    Trails in Lancaster PA

Hi all from NYC here, planning a little weekend get away. Are there any Bike trails both paved and unpaved in the Lancaster Area? And is it safe? meaning....well lit and not a sketchy high crime area. Sorry to sound like a noobie. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a bike path or two. Not to familiar with Lancaster Biking. Harrisburg area has both paved and dirt.

You're gonna want to travel outside of Lancaster for unpaved. Mt Gretna has Governor Dick Tower and that goes from heavy MTB to light trail riding. There's also the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail that runs by the North of town. Not sure how unpaved you want to go.

As far as paved, you'll be in heaven. Check out a Scenic tour from the Lancaster Bike Club, they're fun.

Stay right in Lancaster, 5 minutes from downtown is 'Central Park'. It has to be the safest park you will ride (park right at the Ranger Ststion, next to this Olympic size swimming pool for kids)----

read the reviews here (spaced out so you have to ride payment to get to trail sections. And here are some pics (its really fun here) and can be challenging at spots....

Lancaster County Park is ok; not great. If you are a serious mountain biker, you either want to go to Mount Gretna or down to Fair Hill, just over the state line in Maryland. Much better trails there. Also to the south in Delaware is the Middle Run / White Clay Creek trail system - one of the nicest trails you will ever ride. For trail maps of Fair Hill and Middle Run, go to the delawaretrailspinners website. You may want to try to find someone to show you around.

For rail trails, there is a nice one in Southern Lancaster County. It is a cinder trail that goes through some beatiful farmland. One of the access points is approximately 5 miles south of Strasburg on Rt. 896.

    Hope this helps

Yeah that's true (one of the reviews says it is just good to keep your legs warm until you can find a real trail)-----But I would even go to The Wiss 45 minutes away also like White Clay/Fair Hill/Gretna from Lancaster... But the WISS is ALOT more rocky and challlenging than Fair Hill (It even has The Monster you can try to get up keeping your feet on the pedalls)---AND a mile away from that is the 'Manayunk Wall'--in the Professional Philly Bike Race......

--But you don't have to leave Lancaster to ride (small trails)----OH Yeah also CAMP MAC is about 25 minutes away from here (up from Lititz Pa.) but you are supposed to have a purchased trail pass to ride it here (look that review up)---and about 20 minutes from there (in another direction is Mt. Penn in Reading, Pa.) Look up the review on that also (but that one you will probably get lost from what I hear)-----ALSO 25 minutes away going West (from Lancaster City) is Rocky Ridge (youtube that one--there is a nice video there)-----
