    Swatara advice

I have never been there and I was thinking about riding Swatara.

Is there a preferred direction from the parking lot to ride? I saw a review of the trail somewhere and it indicated counter clockwise would be good choice.

    Does it really matter?

Ahh...what the heck...maybe I will go and just explore. Do counter clockwise first and then reverse it to do clockwise.

    I don't think it matters.

My advice is to always-turn-left, or always-turn-right.

most people seem to like making rights until you get to D, then make a left on D and when you get back to C go back to making all rights. you can do them any direction but i think that direction makes for longer flowy downs and the major ups are straighter steeper and shorter.

yup, what redheadrider says. counter-clockwise until D, clockwise there (the downhill after the technical climb is a great reward... and a nice break!), then back to counter-clockwise. I think that's the most fun way!

It takes me an hour to get there and just over an hour to ride all the trails counter-clockwise. Then I turn around an do them backwards. Normally I hate to backtrack, even in a car or motorcycle, usually preferring to take a different way home. That said, Swatara in reverse is different enough that I hardly notice. Both ways are good.

This, do it both ways...it's an easy ride for 20 miles.

Thanks for the Swatara advice. May try to get a ride in there Saturday sometime. Just have to get past the hour drive from home after a week of long commuting to work.

An hour drive to singletrack is a lot more rewarding than an hour slog to work. It takes me an hour to get there, and while Swatara is pretty tame, it's definitely worth it.

I'm debating going up today. It's about an hour for me as well (Carlisle), If you want someone to ride with, let me know.

    Flowy fun...

Rode there early Sat morning, trails were in great shape, actually bone dry and even slippy/loose in some corners. Nary a soul on the trails besides a guy I rode with and his cool trail dog. Cool weather to start but warmed up nicely. Always love the flow and the great design of the place. Did all rights CC this time and then re-did the 1st loop (A?) clockwise on way back as a last high speed last trail shred. Back to the parking lot around 10ish to find an absolutely packed parking lot with riders gearing up to hit the trails. Spoke to a few, wish I coulda stayed to ride another lap with them. Great way to spend an early Saturday morning in the fall!

Thanks for the invite borborpa, maybe another time.
I did end up heading there Saturday afternoon with a buddy. This was his first time out on mountain bike trails and I think he is hooked. What a great place for him to see what mountain biking can be.
The trails are sure a blast. Can't wait to go back.
