    New question here.

    Confused

Is the "running" also a separate event?

It first just clarifies that there is a running event beforehand. Then it mentions that one can receive a prize for doing both events

There are two separate events, people have the option for signing up for both if they're masochistic.

Yes, we are holding 2 seperate events that day. The "adventure" run starts early and runs the same course that the MTB enduro will be held on at noon. AND if you are one hard core SOB you could sign up to make a bi-athalon out of it and you be deemed KING around are area for sure.

Lefty, I didn't dig REAL deep, but I didn't see anywhere that there were specifics on where the race was running out of / course area. Care to share?

Are you using any of the trails we ride at the dualsport moto event?

The event will be held in the Seven Mountains area between State College and lewistown. At the top of the mt there is a boy scout camp off of sand mt rd. The race will start and finish at that camp.

The race is held in the same area as the Seven mt. dual sport area but use very little of the actual moto trail. There are designated no moto trails in that area that DCNR tries to keep for bicycle and hiking traffic only. Really awesome trails!!!

Is this part of Bald Eagle State Forest? I see the sign for the Scout Camp off the highway. I pass by this area while driving 322 to Coopers Gap/Rothrock SF.

Any knowledge or word on type of trails being used - fast and relatively smooth (in central PA terms - not a whole lot of rock), slow and techy, rock drops, etc.? I'm a bit concerned about leaf coverage on the trail hiding obstacles I'm not familar with.

    Thinking of doing this....

Yes the event is being held in Bald Eagle SF and surrounding private property. Starting and finishing at the boy scout camp right off the Sand Mt. rd.

The trails for this area are relatively smooth and flow nicely but some test will have tech down hill planted rock gardens. Very similar to CG/Rothrock. As far as the leaf cover on the course, the tests will be well arrowed and ribboned so there are no confusing corners or turns. We will also be using backpack leaf blowers to clear the tests only.

Running is NOT involved. The run is a completely seperate event held on the same course earlier in the morning.

I'm thinking of doing this race, both the run and the bike. The thing is, although I'm a great runner and strong rider, as well as a seasoned XC moto rider, my first mountain bike is arriving today. How much protective gear am I gonna need?

It would be awesome to have to you do both events. as far as protective gear goes. You must wear a helmet. I ride this course with only a helmet and clipless MTB shoes. They save me from needed shinguards. gloves and possibly elbow pads. There will be rocks......

yes the course has been riden a few times by me and a couple others in the club and i do have a GPX file of it. While most of the course is in a SF some of it is on private property so only 3 out of 5 test can be practiced before the race.

Next year we are going to push to have this race early in the year so that it doesn't conflict with hunting season.

Attached is the GPX file overlaid on Google Earth to show you the start and finish of each test and the elavation profile to go with it. NOTE: uncheck Temporary Places after opening file.

The entire course including the transition areas is just a touch under 18 miles. With right around 7 miles of timed sections. I'm going to have a split for the beginner class so they'll be done at 15.5 miles. That saves them from having to do the only one real big climb back up the hill for the last "fastest" test.

Not too long, but long enough to know you were in a race. Not quite XC length but longer than a hour and half ride. perfectly suited for your average full suspension "all mountain" or "XC" bikes. Not even out of the picture for a hardtail. .

    Cash/prizes for open men?

$45 is steep for a 18 mile ride in the woods if there's no chance of winning a hundo or a tire...

Awesome trophy and prize table for for winners. .

I think that $45 is pretty low.

Hoping to make it down from Oneonta, NY with a couple buddies. Any good (and cheap) places to stay down there, without making friends with the freshies at Penn State?

The boy scout camp where the race will start and finish offers cabins to rent or very cheap over night parking with electric hook up.

If you not looking to "rough it" that much there is a nice hotel with sports bar attached just a few miles away. here the link to the hotel. Milroy Hotel | Best Western Nittany Inn Milroy | Milroy, Pennsylvania

The link below covers pretty much every option in the surrounding areas for anyone that is on the fence about the "freshies" sleep over. Althought not a bad option if you can get it lined up. ha!!

it will be a nice ride for you on a 29 er HT. I laid out the course on one so you'll be in good shape.

We'll have a riders meeting before the race to explain the rules we'll be using for our event. Very simple, nothing like old school enduro time keeping.

    Hey Lefty;

A friend of mine and myself just registered Via Bike Reg...so you can check to see if it's working. I got a confirmation email for it and so did my friend.

There was no place for T-Shirt Size in the online sign up....not even sure if we're eligible....but if we are I guess an XL will be good.

Great vack, and sorry about the t-shirt thing. I'll have my technology ass in gear for that next year. So I will make note that we need at least 2 XL shirts for you at registration.

Great Event Guys, I had an absolute great time.
