Sat 7/19 Weissport to JT and back

I'll be spinning from Weissport to JT and back Sat 7/19 8:00 AM. 11+ miles, 1.5 hours, fast, flowy, singletrack with just a tad dirt road thrown in to connect the juicy bits. Come get a motivated tour of an overlooked fast, fun, sweet trail. Could extend the ride if interested. Canal parking lot in Weissport, 8:00 AM, look for Green Dodge Dakota with a Kona...

Wish I'd have seen this last night...
Where is this singletrack? I've ridden along the canal and seen short bits of trails that go off to either side, but it was still 90% towpath and 10% singletrack. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places??

Alot more than rail trail !

Did the ride from Weissport to JT and back this AM and it was 11.6 miles and took us around an hour 35 minutes. That's with a flat, a few stops to rest/chat, and a couple of off-bike tip overs. Not even close to 90% towpath. There is one long stretch of a mile that needs to be ridden on the towpath because there is no other choice (and we put the hammer down on that alittle and turned about 17 MPH) and then just a few small on and offs to connect the various trails. The 1st trail (bridge trail) starts right behind the job johnny in the main parking lot. Then a little bit on the towpath until you cross the 1st pedestrian bridge then dive into the woods on left and follow that back into the woods where there are several trails. Eventually popping back out onto the towpath where you cross the 2nd pedestrian bridge. This is where you have to spin it on the railtrail for a mile until you go into the woods on the right, follow that trail until you get back out onto the railtrail and you have to turn left (back toward Weissport for maybe 50 yards) to pick up a river trail that enters on your right. That will wind along the river for a bit popping you back out onto the towpath. Eventually you pass a very high overlook on the right side and will steer into the woods on the right just after that. Follow that with a few tech sections off to the right coming out back on the towpath under a rail road bridge. You will stay on the tow path past the next Lock and dive into the woods to the right probably 20 yards past that last Lock. That singletrack will take you right to the sewage plant, hop across the towpath to the left for a short tech section and then a long rock garden around the sewage plant to a rail access road into the JT Market parking lot. Reverse stuff on the way back. The trails are in excellent condition and quite fast & fun. I really want to GPS the place and then get some mileage/numbers/directions. Just guessing...maybe 3 miles rail trail ?? Hope this helps anyone that didn't really know what was there. I'll try to get more accurate trail directions/numbers and signage up soon. Also, I'll try to post when I ride there again.

    Keep the rubber side down...

Thanks for the info. I've been on a couple of those sections. I did ride the canal side where it comes out under the railroad bridge and a couple on the river side as well.
I'll have to look closer next time and follow your directions.

bwargula, I'll plan on that ride on the 19th if that's cool. I live in west penn...we spoke awhile ago...let me know if you're up for ripping the bungalow or JT anytime.

    Check the date...

the date on the post was from "2008". Gonz replied to an old post from years ago and it just so happens the dates coincide with this year! I'm not riding there on the 19th, sorry for the confusion. Apaulo88, I'll give ya a holler when I'm heading out to Bungalow, JT, or Summit Hill.
