I haven't been up that way since before the flooding. Does anyone know if 239 is open through Mocanaqua, to 11 through Shickshinny and up Hartman road? I'm looking at heading up there Tuesday evening, but would hate to get partway and have to turn around.

    Thanks!

239 was open before the snow storm, I've been on it. Can't imagine it has any new problems.

    Still, there's a lot I can't imagine.

    Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead!

    Just a note...

... 5858, NFS, and Slide are hike/bike as trees are still down, other trails are good.

    Enjoy your ride...

Sunday evening the trails were wet and slimy but had no real snow on the singletrack.

Immediately adjacent, yeah, not not where people had ridden.

Not enough to slow you much even so.

    Great I guess!... LOL

Kuhlkat, the Funk Soul Brother Big D. and I rode da mOOn tonight and no snow just a bit of mud in corners, but had a blast again. Hit NW1, Deacon, 5858 to Salamander to 8 to T-Rex1 T-Rex2 Edge, Skinnys, and home for me the others hit Mo-zee and Peek-a-Boo!

Should have gone to the Slocum ride. ;^)

60% chance I'll see you @ Moon tonight though.

With my old suck-o-lame HID that merely helps me find the trail AFTER I've ridden off it.

    Good job!

    Well...

...I just gotta say lots of people showing to Ride da mOOn. With a super night, fairly warm, no rain there were about 30 riders who broke into several groups and being out on the trails running into other riders going about their ride was fantastic!

In our group we had 10 riders, but sadly we lost two with mechanicals, everyone got out of the woods safe though. We rode many of the fresh leaf blown trails(I posted the info in the Moon Lake damage reports thread here on MTBR) Starting at the main gate, NW1, NW2, What, NW2 NW1 to Deacon Trilas area, but this time we hit the Salamander Rd to 5858, then back to the Deacon trials area, continuing past the lake onto Wankins, up Skinnys, T-Rex1, 8, NW1, NW2, What, NW2, NW1... finish

Great to see so many riders out enjoying the trails

    Just a quick note,

On Friday afternoon (Nov. 4) around 3:00 PM I saw a hunter carrying a bow and a stand into the woods near the intersections of 5858, Salamander, and the fire road there. I was so surprised to see him that I said "hey" and just kept riding. Of course, five minutes later I was like "WTF"?

When I left the park, there was a vehicle parked on Atherton near the split of Hartman. I would assume that was this dude's ride, but that isn't a guarantee. I am willing to contact PGC and speak with them about this. To verify, all of Moon Lake Park (and the trails on Chriffer's map) are off-limits to hunting?

In nicer news, THANK YOU to whom-so-ever blew the leaves on 5858 (and much of the west-north trails). The different of upper to lower 5858 was remarkable. I also had my first run up NFS. Ugh.

    Best,
    Mark

Yes, officially, MLP is no-hunting zone.

Be advised that immediately adjacent state forest land is NOT, and best access may be through MLP - I doubt it but do not know.

Last year around t-day I ran across a rifle hunter dragging his kill out - he was on the service road heading towards Deacon/Nature's Way. It may not be legal but there WILL be a number of hunters in MLP so consider yourself warned that not all hunters obey restrictions and you MAY get shot anywhere.

BTW, the day I ran across the hunter was a Sunday, if I recall correctly.

    Good job!

    Here's da skinny:

MLP property is off limits to hunting...

... but as we know there really is no enforcement, since the park is very underfunded. Now there is State Forest land, Water Company, and Private land bordering MLP. The area around 5858, Salamander and NFS is divided in pie cuts that are at very acute angles, so you will see hunters in that area!

Most of the hunters are locals, or bordering property owners that have hunted there for years, and they know all about the mt biking, as I have spoken with a few, never had a problem mostly they ask which way I am going and also they ask if I saw any deer. So really no prob and we can all get along together. What we don't need is pissing people off so as they wreck our trails! I can't promise you won't get shot but then again you can get shot anywhere!

    Good job!

    Yes..

... and like I said they know well enough about the mt bikers. From what I have discuss with the hunters in that area they like to sit up on that ridge and shoot down, which at that point you can see the whole lower area, including Salamander trail. I have never run into a bad hunter(not that they don't exist) most are just looking to enjoy their sport and sure don't wanna be hassled or shoot anyone, just like mt bikers they wanna enjoy the outdoors.
