Yup I remember and that is part of the reason why I asked. I tweaked my ankle and arm last night riding so I wont make it this week. I have been trying to get there since we met but really have conflicting schedules. So hopefully next wednesday Ill be able to show up.

Rode da Moon tonight for the first time. Da Moon put me down for a standing eight count in the first round but I finished the round and I'll be back for round two in a couple of weeks. I can indeed attest that no rider is left behind, lol. My ribs took a beating. I spared ya those photos.

Hydef, glad you made it out alive. Maybe not in 1 piece, but alive and still able to pedal some more. Nice to meet you last night. Hope to see you out again at Da Moon.

Found a pair of full fingered gloves at Moon Lake today. If you are missing them they are under the big log near the first picnic table at the entrance to NW.

Found these old pics from when we first went up Moon Lake back in 2012. The guy on the yellow Specialized was the one that organized the Trials event for RTCC

It seems like moon lake is really well liked, I mainly ride the Lackawanna state park, but am looking hit up moon in the upcoming days. Any preference on where to start and ride to for a good hour and a half to two hours? What are everyone's favorite trails?

    Thanks guys

Most of us park outside the main entrance. There is a big rock and the trail starts alongside it. If you haven't got a map, do a search here and print one out. The trails go completely around the whole lake. All vary in style, but just about everyone has rocks and roots. Totally rideable. Depending on your speed you could easily get at least a 1.5 - 2 hour ride in. I ride all of the trails there. Don't really have a favorite. One ride I dowould be Natures way, down access road to Deacon, follow onto Ledgeview, cross access road to 8. Ride 8 to Trex2. Skip lower section of Trex2 and head out to campground and head down ET. Then onto Watkins. Follow road to Twister and Buddys. Go thru woods to 5 Tree and onto Burts and Moto. Out to Big Blue and end with Thorny, and ride thru the field to the car. If you are in the area Saturday there is usually a group that heads out around 10am. I'll be there a bit later. New riders are always welcome.
    LOVE THE RIDE!

There's a fallen tree down on 8. It straddles the trail at about neck level. Damn near took my head off. Cracked my helmet in two. Just hard to see. If there aren't already plans, I'd like permission to cut it down. If not, I'd suggest rerouting that part of the trail.

If u got a means of cutting it out safely it would save someone else from having to do it. Da moon always welcomes volunteer trail maintenance. Thanks in advance.

What a nite for a ride. Might not have been a good idea to ride da moon after all the rain we got but myself and bikergirl weren't alone. Dave, amy, murphy, chris s, wayne, and a few others had the same idea. Traction was minimal. But what a night for a ride.

    Yes,

the big, dangerous to cut out, above head level tree has been removed by 2 beavers...
...hence the trail is open at the cost of a now, not brand new, anymore, chain!

    Ouch... 45 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where do I send the bill?...LOL

I know there is this big debate about if it is better to clear leaves from the trail or let them alone. In the past, we have cleared them. It sure made it easier to follow the trails (especially for those not as familiar with the trails). It also made it a little safer through the rocky, technical sections. I am going to head out there Sunday morning, Nov. 2 to get a start on it. If anyone else is interested, let me know. As in the past, the more people we get, the quicker the job gets done

Dave, some friends from the Reading area are coming up Sunday morning to ride Da Moon. We are meeting up at 10:30 if you and your crew want to join in. I cleared a crap load of down branches last night on Thorny and Big Blue. There is still a downed tree on Thorny which covers both sections of the trail. The wet leaves did make for a very scary ride last night. And the fog and mist that rolled in later didn't help either.
    LOVE THE RIDE!

    Thanks for the help...
...it makes the trails easier to follow and cuts back on reroutes by blowing leaves off, also for night riding trails are easier to follow, and they dry quicker without leaves...
...anyway just my 2 cents and I'm happy either way just to have so many people help make mOOn lake park a great place to visit!

Oh ya "thee ride"... was fantastic last night as we freight trained around a super loop, including Silver Fox, Star and the other well liked trails.

    Slide da mOOn...
...c ya Sunday for the mOOn Halloween ride, 10:30 main gate...
    ...don't be scared

PS: A new tree has fallen on Thorny will be removed soon,m you might want to avoid that section of trail for now, as there are lots of thorny apple thorns laying around and rerouting to bypass will lead to flat tires!

I forgot that there was a big ride planned for Sunday. We can always reschedule the trail work. I may still go out the early to get some work done and still be ready to ride at 10:30

The big Sunday ride was a total success with 25 or so riders showing up for the Tour de mOOn trails! Conditions were excellent!

Thanks to all who joined in and for all the food we had to eat and share! Happy Birthday to our native son KuhlKat! That B-Cake was super!

Stay tuned for further instructions as to our next adventure...LOL

I was playing around with the map today and suddenly a route popped out at me. 4 miles of pure, unbroken singletrack.

    Ride da Moon-unbroken-singletrack-.jpg

    The route:
    -Ledgeview backwards (from Eagle)
    -8
    -T-Rex 1
    -T-Rex 2

If it were a song, this would be my jam.

    Vote

Moon Lake Park's mountain biking future looks good. Council is voting on Tuesday on whether to transfer Moon Lake Park to the state.

Tuesday’s meeting agenda also includes a vote on transferring ownership of several county recreational facilities to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources — Moon Lake Park in Plymouth Township, the Seven Tubs Nature Area in Plains Township and a 400-acre, county-owned parcel adjacent to Moon Lake that would connect two sections of state forest property.

A council majority had asked the administration to start negotiating a potential state takeover in July believing the state would have more resources than the cash-strapped county to improve and maintain the properties. The state would pay each governing body $1.20 per acre in lieu of taxes on the 1,757 acres involved in the transfer.
    Support.

Under that proposal, the state will remove all of the decaying infrastructure. But mountain biking would continue to be permitted.

The state wants the Seven Tubs to complete the rail trail and the missing link land on Rt29 to complete the Harvey's Creek trail, but they really don't want Moon lake park.

Maybe the county would sell the park to some non-profit for $1. Also, maybe we should start up a mountain bike riders non-profit. Ok, I'm dreaming, but who knows???

Thanks to Scott Olex and Ron Hines for a freezing festival ride. For those wondering "Yes, it was very painful" the wind at the top of Big Blue was howling at 30MPH making it well below Zero!

Are there trails at the Moon that are currently rideable with a fat bike?
Haven't been up there since all the snow but might have a FB to try out.

Tried the moon Wednesday night with the new Fatbike and and Flurry. Flurry went fine, the fatbike not so much. Snow was deep with a thick, but not thick enough to ride on, crust. Ended up riding some of the roads through the park, but they were icy. Didn't have time to stud up a set of fat tires yet, so had to take it easy.

Deacon really kicked my ass tonight. Went over the handlebars and landed like I was doing a push-up. Felt fine. Got back to the car and noticed a gash on my chin that wouldn't close. Ended up meeting a cute PA at the emergency room. She stitched me up just fine.

I didn't know what thread to throw this on, but this one seems right. i got out to Moon Lake for the first time yesterday afternoon. What a cool place. It snowed and was cold as sh!t, but the trails were very fun. It also had this kind of post apocalyptic feel, with nobody there and all the abandoned buildings/facilities. I was hoping nobody would come out and eat my brains while I was getting my bike kit on at my truck.

With so many trails and intersections, I kind of had trouble picking my routes around at first, but then just stopped worrying about figuring out a route and rode the trails that seemed cleared or most ridden. For as rocky as it is, the trails flow really well; its pretty technical, but not that grinding technical and all those fun little ramps, rock features made it even better. The topography is really cool there. Ledgeview was a particularly fun section.

You guys/girls did an amazing job out there. Thank you. I'm stoked to get up there again sometime because now that I kind of know the lay of the land, I'll be able to get after it a little harder.

Thank you. I will. As an aside, how do the fat bikes perform on those rocks. I imagine they just kind of bounce along over them. I ask because it looks like there are a lot of fat bike riders there. I keep toying around with getting one, but feel like its more of a novelty.

    just,

It's all about tire pressure, you can tune it so it absorbs lots of hits, and keeping it just on the side of not to low to wallow around with too much drag works best. It's just a try it and ride it method till ya get it close then the fun starts!
