The tires on the fat bike may have had some rolling resistance but you hardly touched the brakes on 8 no matter what turn we were in

I have a brand new Nevegal in the Cellar, one ride on it, I gotta check and find it, maybe someone will give me half of what I paid for it?

The grip was incredible, you can throw all caution to the wind of the front tire going out on you, and roll baby roll!

I guess you ended up outta juice...
...since we didn't see ya, but here's the skinny on the ride for all:

Lots of riders showed up and the road was full of parked cars all the way to the top of the hill. My group started out to Thorny, Big Blue, 5 Tree, where we had Owen's chain decide to develop 2 ends, so fixed that in about 10 minutes and continued to Moto(up) to Nitemare(up) Big Blue, Nature Center, Twister, Buddy's, Watkins, Skinnys, Edge, T-Rex1, 8, Ledgeview, SR2, Mo-Zee, Peek-A-Boo and done .

Lottsa rid'in and ripp'in around, we were the last to get back to the cars after 9PM

batteries were blue when I needed to leave the house and that wouldn't have made and after 9 finish for sure. I didn't expect to get out of the office before 8 yesterday so I stopped charging the batteries when I had to leave the house and go into the office. I usually work from home on Wed's... I don't see me getting out of the office before 8 tonight and that will not change this time. Putting my laptop back together... Gotta earn...

Friday: First time riding at Moon Lake. Didn't get there till late, and with no lights only had about an hour and a half. Very impressed. Didn't have a map, so just road around till I saw a trail. (screamer?) I'll be back for sure, Best part is it's only 15 minutes from home.

    Thanks NEPMTBA.
I'd like to hook up with you guys for a ride, but 6 is a little early for me. Don't get home from Tobyhanna till 5:30, and still need lights. Maybe some week-end. Thanks to all who maintain these trails.

Should have been a good ride. I was dressed and the bike has the new pedals and seat on it. Being on-call means that my work day went to 7 tonight. Pedaled at Planet Hollywood with my daughter.

    Good job!

Great fun ride as 5 of us...
...being the tough guys we are...LOL

On a cold night we were sure to warm up quick with Super Mark and Chriffer, leading we hit Thorny, Big Blue, Nitemare, Burts, 5 Tree, Moto, Nitemare(as you can see lots of climbing happened, not for the faint of legs and lungs) Big Blue, Peek-a-Boo, Mo-Zee, all of Watkins, Skinnys, Edge, Lower T-Rex2 down round to T-Rex2 up...wheew nice and toasty buy now!

Riding in snow requires more tech skills, but getting used to sliding into and out of turns makes for a super fun time, only hit one good patch of puddle ice on "8" weeeeeeee!

"8" and with the non bright idea of going "NO LIGHTS" and what a fun time as there was a full moon, no leaf cover on the trees, just enough light snow on the leaf blown trails to make it possible(a really rare thing where all 3 elements have to exist at once)

Minus the lights made going down the uphill challenge and the other tricky elements on the "8" trail "WILD"

Then Ledgeview up(stopped to view the Christmas Tree) NW1, NW2, What, finish to one of the best cold weather rides yet, with lots of climbing and milage!

This was so much fun, and topping it off went home an hit up the toast with home made blackberry jelly and Minestrone soup... Yum! Looking forward to more cold weather riding, best time of the year, no bugs, pollen or sunburn...

Dozer had more fun than any of us with his entertaining belly in the snow rest breaks where he would lick the snow in front of him. Truly a "green" thinking doggy!

    Ride da mOOn...
    ...who needs lights?

PS... looking to "Ride da Rocks" this Friday night with MTBs if possible?

I'm in NY Friday for my Knee evaluation. It's a 1:15 appt so getting back in time for a 6pm ride will most likely not happen.. Maybe Jimmy can host. I'm also on call till Tuesday morning and I've worked from 8am to 11pm everyday this week so far. I'm still working right now. I did take off an hour and a half to work-out with my daughter yesterday and came back and did a bit more work

Nice night, lots of friends, good ride again!

    What about 01/01/2101 or 02/02/2202 or 03/03/2103 or 04/04/2104 or 05/05/2105 or 06/06/2106...

Forever is a long time, I'm waiting for a ride on 12/12/121,212 at 12:12:12 PM. I'm planning on coming back as a rock with arms and legs in my next life. I hope they have mountain bikes in 119,200 years or it will be tough to go for the really epic mountain bike ride...

Until, the next century. For example, 12/12/2112 will also be 12/12/12.

Be we are due for an 88 year break in x/x/x dates. 01/01/2101 will certainly be a joyous day!

... and if we just ...

    Nice crowd tonight...

...split up into two groups, we headed out NW1, NW2, What, NW2, 5858, SR2 Ledgeview, SR2, NFS, Plan B with a split again some hit up TTS, met back up at 8, took 8 down to end, SR2, SR1, Marina(burr cold), Buddys, Twister, Big Blue, Thorny, out.

It was fun to be out on NFS and see our friend Ken Pavlick's Christmas lights up on the ridge, he has a huge solitary star, impressive looking as you ride NFS. With the cold north wind blowing off Ceasetown there was ice on NFS...weeeeeeeeeee

Found icy cruncy places, but still thin mud laying in turns!

12/12/12 complete for the 2000 century...

Sounds like you guys had fun. I could not stay late so I did a solo ride at 3:15 until dark. In a short amount of time, you could really feel the temperature drop. There were some slick spots but overall pretty good considering we had two days of rain. See you guys on Sat.

What a great night to be out...

...just simply amazing how well the trails dry out at da mOOn. A full day of rain just got soaked up. It was fun to do a way different ride tonight. It would be a super night to camp out. While I was coming back on SR2 I turned out my light and even with the waxing moon I could see perfect.

I promise to not turn my bike into a "gravity" machine again!...LOL

Thanks for a great night on the trails...

    Good job!

Ever get on a roll and ya just don't want it to stop?...
..today Sunday was just like that at da mOOn for me.

Rolled out the ol'school, GT I-Drive, 5 inch travel, 26er, full susser, adjusted quickly to having these options. It was going to be a fun ride! Decided to head out on the pave to Buddys. Sun was shining and the light wind was cold, so next up was looking for a climb. Go'in Up looked like the way, snow covered as most trails were. At the top via Ol'Yeller and CG 32 headed over to T-Rex1, then a really fun downhill strole on 8. Coming out at the picnic table, proceeding down SR1 to the lake. All riding before this was pure silence, just crunching snow under the tires!

The geese changed the silence with their song as I passed, and got to see an old friend with his doggie French Fry along on his tour today. French Fry didn't want to stop and chat with us as I think he had plan of his own.

Continuing on to go up Dual to Big Blue for a bit of climbing, but not needing to stay warm, as I was cooking by now, it just made for a great
route. Ended with Thorny BMX then the dirt road to NW2/NW1.

Really didn't want to leave da mOOn, but had to visit with Moto buddies and their Christmas party/ride later today.

Hope I can keep this ride going right through New Years.
Pics? Nope, not today just pure riding!

Sounds like you had a great ride. I wish it was a little colder so the ground would be frozen. And yeah, I noticed the geese really liked moon lake today.

    Good job!

    Still Roll'in...

...today a bit different as I decided to do a personal "Scot" Trials type of ride, meaning no stopping, and no dabbing! Entertaining one's self sometimes means looking at stuff in a very different way. Thinking about it will only get ya in trouble though. Had to remind myself a few times to stop looking and just ride it...LOL!

Trail conditions were all snow covered trails and some spots sufferenig from ice where wind was blowing acrosss the snow! X-ray vision was needed as I didn't use the studded tires. Nice to have the trails all to myself, only a few tracks on certain trails. Peacful, quiet and just the crunching of snow interupted the calm, until the geese tuned up, and the black crow that followed me in a few places wishing me Merry Christamas with his cackling.

Da ride, started off on NW1, past the park office, down the pave, Peek-A-Boo, Mo-Zee expecting to get my dabs in early, but got through it all clean. The big uphill slippy, and steep, success! T-Rex2 was the next choice for me. Got one dab in the lower section, and well deserved, a hidden slippy root said "not here" to my tire. OK, one in the book. Out to the field and back up to CG32, Edge, Skinnys, didn't dab anymore, but I was only along for the ride at a few points as it was icy and tricky...LOL Watkins, SR1, up through the picnic area all the way up to Thorny BMX back out to the pave and NW2/NW1.

Riding a mt bike in the snow really maintains and helps with tech skills. Lots of slipping and correcting. Ending up with no stops and only one dab made for a great day.

A few hours at da mOOn was a great warm up for the Moto Trials ride at Joey's later on this fantastic Christmas Day! What a better way to end Christmas, friends, Moto riding, a big fire and BBQ after a bit of slippy side hill tormenting hosted by Joey and family. I will remember it for quite a while!

To my fishing friends... fellas the report is "ice has formed" across from the overflow. Looks as if the north wind continues, ice will cover in a day or two. I'm ready for the party!

    FISH ON!

The ride for 12/26/12 will be a bit early at 12:00 nOOn at da mOOn...

    Thread here:

I highly doubt anyone would come out to ride mt bikes at 6PM during the snow storm anyway, as the weather forecast calls for bad road conditions later on Wednesday 12/26/12

    Good job!

In an effort to send the year out in style...

...cr500, Rhines, bilbo, beardman, and myself hit the trails for one last time in 2012. All ready snow covered the ride started with a jaunt on NW1, Ledgeview, 8, T-Rex1, T-Rex2, and it started to snow just like the blizzard they predicted.

Looking to be the foolish types we are Screamer would be our next choice, Yee Haa downhilling on the newly added snowcovered path. Needless to say we all got down in one piece, and slid through the Squeezer...

...but to Fat Dogs disliking as we dusted him. Barking and yelping as if we were going to leave him for the coyotes! Coyotes would run from him! Sux to have such short front legs when running full speed downhill!...LOL. He needs 9 or 10 speed components!

Farm Road was next followed by Mo-Zee to Dual(a pretty much featureless trail)that Rhines and I promote as "GREAT" trail... LOL At least we like it. Up to da Nature Center and onto Big Blue, now with dropping tempetures lots of unfriendly ice appeared. Thorny BMX and out.

Wind just a howling snow blinding drifts "WOW" almost sounds like a blizzard. The ride ended with us dusting off our cars and Fat Dog getting a bit of brushing off too!

Driving home Rhines got to see my corrective maneuvers in the middle of the road as the Factory Ford Focus just would not hook and turn! Damn disc brakes needs V-brakes like my bikes. No prob take the next exit 180 out and try from a different angle!

    Lessons learned? NOPE, Just Ride...
...last of da mOOn 2012 completed, Snow kidding!

That was my first official snow ride and I had a blast! Didn't even hear a sound in the woods....the infamous calm before the storm. Thanks everyone for a good year at the Moon!

Mixed conditions today. It was about 37 degrees. A beautiful day in the woods. Started out on NW1. After that stayed on the fire roads. All kinds of snow. The hard pack where people had skied wasn't too bad, but it was hard steering in the soft stuff. Overall a lot of work riding today. At least I came home in one piece.Next weekend is suppose to be even warmer.

Thats a good way to sescribe it a mixed bag.
I also was at the mOOn today.
Started off on Natures Way 1, that was an absolute blast it is so packed down, then 8 out to the split by Ledgeview, up the service road to the campground, through the campground, back up the service road, T-Rex 1, all of 8, and out Natures Way 1.
    Man what a workout.

    Fantastic day. Conditions were perfect.
Thorny, Big Blue, Twister, Buddy's, Watkins Loop, Skinny, Plan B,8, Ledgeview, Deacon, NW2, What.
Two and a half hours and 7 miles of pure bliss.
First time on Deacon and it's such a great rockfest. I like how you can keep your speed up on it.
Probably last ride for a while as I'm going to Colorado Springs for about 8 weeks.
    See you in the spring.

    Good job!

Yes, it was a super winter day for everything!

Started out the day on the lake with the fish'in buddys, then Moto and Brandon showed up and we hit the trails joined by AJ and Dozer at one point. SR2 to Deacon, Ledgeview, TTS, 8, SR2 a shorter trials fun play ride with lots of time spent hopping on snow covered stuff, then back out on the lake! Danny hauled in a nice Big Trout!

If ya missed it, then ya missed it...

...and it makes a scuffing sound, almost on me head

Best part of being out on the ice hanging with each other talking with Ray And Stevie when the sun heated the ice and it began to sag then gave off a big crack... we scattered like rabbits...LOL

First rule of book club, don't stand next to each other talking, on 2 inch thick snow covered ice on a sunny day

My brother came up from Millersville for the day,so we hiked the Moon today.
I can't find the link for the map. Can someone help me out? Also, do the colors of the trails on the map have any significance?

    Thanks

    Here ya go:

At one time the old park commission had marks on trees from the really old trail system that was comprised of the service roads. Colors mean nothing! Ignore the mini arrows and dots, that was marked from a ride we did. Trails are not exact locations or GPSed just a representation of the area they occupy.

I have a feeling you will be reviewing this map at 15,000 feet while on the flight to Colorado...LOL

    Good job!

Today 2/2/13 the Ground Hog was very scared...
...the SSer was prowling trails at da mOOn!

But first... the trout are in the lake! WCO Cummings and the Friends of Moon Lake fishermen aided in getting the nice stocking into the lake. With holes drilled the fishing commenced fast!

Todays ride started from the Marina after a visit with friends ice fishing, had to find a hill to climb. Wind was much calmer than yesterday at trout stocking where a crisp 30MPH wind full of snow squalls ripped across the lake.

Mo-Zee/Peek-A-Boo, Buddys, Slide, Watkins, Skinnys, Eagle, with all the leaves off the trees one can identify random objects to ride trials on. Spent an hour riding trials around Eagle on big rocks and fallen logs, very quiet area to play, yet close enough to the frozen lake to provide a thrill. I was able to find lots of flowing water even with the really cold temps! There was enough snow on the lake to allow riding without studs as long as you didn't lean too hard!

Continued to Deacon, tough trail on a SSer with the light snow covered rocks secretly hiding to throw off any good line selections, then SR2 back to Marina.

    Pics are random...

How do you get that bike to go over those rocks and logs by itself?

Rode da mOOn 2/24/13... ...Great day to hit the biways, paved, dual, and singletrack all in a mix of fun that gets better as time goes on. Always good to start at the Marina on a cold day. It provides a quick hill to climb to get the inner heater going strong! Followed by fun on the hard water, friends, fish, and freezing temps! The ice was thick and fish were biting! Rode da mOOn pics are up, vids coming Enjoy

I'm going to try and make it tonight, depending on the weather, and hopefully my light batteries are at work?
It's been so long since I rode at night, I really want to get out.

In 2013 we celebrate the longest running continuous running ride series in our area, our 7th year of the never ending Ride da mOOn. I can tell you we have been through battles before, but we have always come out on top and... ...recently with the forming of a Luzerne county administrative recreational board we have a voice. Everyone I saw and spoke with at the meeting was positive and upbeat about Moon lake Park. They are working to improve as much as they can with what they have to work with, so our future looks very bright! Tonight's ride, Slippy, Sqishy, Sloopy Muddy, Icy, Snowy... ...all the above plus 2 wheel drifting made for a great night under the lights of fun! You could feel the wind just can't maintain the icy cold anymore. The ride started at Thorny, Big Blue, 5 Tree, Nitemare, Grass trails, Twister, Buddys, Watkins Go'in up, Ol' Yeller, T-Rex2 up, T-Rex1, 8, Natrure's Way Ride da mOOn was a blast once again.

Great ride at mOOn today with friends...

... started off on Big Blue, 5 Tree, Nitemare, Twister, Buddys, Watkins, Skinnys, Edge, T-Rex1, 8, NW1. Riding today in the 50s quickly had us shedding jackets fast! Dozer enjoyed the little ice that is left to rehydrate himself. Matt had the 4.8s on his Fat Bike and I gotta say they get "TRACTION" Amazing how the bike would climb anything, of course Matt has the riding and power to do the impossible.

All in all the trails have dried a lot more since the previous Wednesday nights ride! Great to be out and looking forward to a super 2013

    Enjoy the pics!

    Cool-blue Rhythm

My journey started out driving to da mOOn it snowed like a mini blizzard...
...at da mOOn sun was shining and I knew it was the start of something special, just had that kind of feeling!

Staying on higher/drier/rockier trails, and with 7 years experience at da moOn knowing the steady wind has most of the trails dry by now. I decided to ride stuff that I never ride, kinda a rights of spring in the discovering the new. Wanted a totally different route tonight, so I set my mind CNC mode!

It just kept getting better and better, the sun and blue sky followed me everywhere, Spent some time on Big Stick, and Dr Feelgood then hooked it over to one of my fav trail linked sections is Buddys to Twister to Slide, an amazing link up of really cool stuff.

Up to the Trials Area to play on top for a while, then linking another fav linked section, T-Rex2, T-Rex1, Edge, Skinnys, Watkins!

Riding all winter on the SSer has me in tune for what was one of the best early season rides ever, pushing snow and ice is difficult to say the least, once it goes away pushing mud is a breeze, and there was very little of that, more like soft putty.

Early season thaw is a normal thing and you have to know enough to let the ground thaw and the laying water will percolate through, da mOOn never lets me down, build trails right and they reward everyone who rides them.

With what I felt as unlimited strength, I spent 2 hours, all the time thinking of new stuff to hop on, made for a fantastic night, geese are back, ice is off, could not get enough! Bring on spring!

So early this morning spring flew in...
...ya right, but the steady wind will work to the trails advantage drying the wet spots! Other usual spots will still be frozen.

    Ride da mOOn
I'll be there early enjoying my ride!

Bright sun, and lots of fun!

I had a grand old time hopping around the trails, and random rocks and logs that I just got mesmerized by all the really cool stuff there is to play on.

Last week I did a similar ride, just roaming. This week was the same goal. No plan, as soon as I lifted my head up from one object I spotted the next one! Just point me the direction of the next thing I see in my sights and ride it.

That's the cool thing about da mOOn there is something around every corner!

I haven't seen the regulars... ...on a Wednesday night in months including Buddy. I have the park all to myself. I don't think it was that cold of a winter even XC Ski camped a few times, not at mOOn of course. It is amazing how quiet it can be, but one thing that is a standard is the train running along the Suskie. That can be heard everywhere in the mountains.

Nice to be back in the saddle again.

    Some observations:
100+ miles of hiking in the Colorado Rockies did not translate to better bike legs.

First time running tubeless. Had some initial issues holding air, but was fine on the ride. Ran front and rear at about 25 psi. Also lowered my fork pressure a little. I really liked the traction and overall ability to roll over roots, trees and rocks. Whats the lowest anyone runs tubeless?

Now the ride: 6 miles; thorny, 5 tree, nightmare, berts, moto, back to 5 tree, twister, slide, skinny, 8, NW1. Very nice day.

bilbo: my general guidance is to run tubeless NOT MUCH different than you run tubed, the tire still flexes more because of the loss of internal structure. Just because you're tubeless with goop doesn't guarantee you can't puncture or flat. Just my 2c. That said, with XC tires, I've run as low as 18 psi (unintentionally) but that leads to a lot of "rim strikes" - which is bad IMO. I tend to run 25+ on my 29ers and 30+ on 26er with XC tires. On my 5" FS 29er I run 35 rear 30 front, ish. Still playing around as the tires are new. The reason I run higher pressure is I'm moving faster and hitting rocks harder so need to guard the rims more. On my DH bike when tubeless with DH tires I never use less than 35 psi, often more.
