Raccoon Creek State Park trails (western PA)?

The website shows they have something like 13 miles of trails open to mtb. Anyone been there before and seen these trails? Suitable for mtb or more for equestrians?

    Thanks.

I asked the question on PORC also, and got the answer that the shared use trails are mostly pretty horsed up. The hiking trails would be nice to ride, but they're off limits to mtb. Guess I won't be planning a trip that way anytime soon.

It has been a few years, but my wife and I rode out there. I pretty much thought it sucked. Way too rutted out from horses and looked like some atv tracks too. We ended up mostly just riding double track. The place really has some potential, but needs some serious overhauling. Personally, if I am gonna drive out that way I would just head to bavington.

We camped out there for a week and trails sucked -- they don't get ridden much and really have no flow. The area was really swampy too and I remember it being a mudfest.

The good thing is Bavington is not far and its excellent XC riding. We also hit Bradys run and Settlers Cabin that were all much better than in the state park. I do have to say the cabin was nice and rangers were friendly and the hiking in the parks was not bad...

I rode the west side of Raccoon, once, about 10 years ago. Let me tell you: there were -literally- horse hoof divots as deep as my knees. The slightly solidified mud around them held me and my bike up for a bit, and then I sank in. And then I trudged through the "mine field". There are actually some fun (as I recall) sections buried between LOTS of over-horsed trail.

As jcaino said: go to Bavington and let 'er rip. There's also a trial set up in Beaver that I haven't made it to, yet. I need to check that out.

Raccoon is one of my favorite parks -- mostly from shared, good times.

For several years, my wife and I would meet friends there and camp out for multi-day Dave Matthews concerts at the near by Star Lake Ampitheatre/Post-Gazette Pavillion/whatever it is now. Couple that with some Bavington riding ... and it's a good time! The beach is quite nice in the summer; the campgrounds are also pretty nice, but it pays to pick spots ahead of time (some are great tent sites, some are "rough").
