Idea! Prompton Dam State Park Ride 8/19/12 Sunday

Who's in for a tour around Prompton?

If you have never ridden this gem of a park here is your chance! Prompton is a super cool techy rolling singletrack ride with short steep ups and rock gardens.

Prompton Dam SP is located off Rt 170 near Honesdale, Pa.
    PA*DCNR*-*Prompton State Park

We can meet to carpool/caravan at the park and ride in Pittston, Pa at 11 AM from there we travel to Prompton Dam SP.
    Google Maps

The ride will meet/assemble at the boat launch at 12 Noon, ride will be approx 16 to 20 miles of pristine singletrack, one note, this is a loop ride, returning to the place of departure, no bailouts are available after you cross to the other side of the lake, you either continue or go back, unless your going to swim across the lake... LOL

We will stop take breaks and hydrate often. All are welcome, as long as you are experienced with riding this length of ride and being on your bike for a few hours.

I will have the cooler stocked with drinks and ice, if anyone is interested we can bring the grill and do up some dogs after the ride?

Prompton is a great place to visit/ride...
    ...all interested please repond here...

I really wish I weren't headed to Ocean City this weekend. I've been wanting to check out Propmton since it's relatively close. Oh well, maybe next time.

I remember my first and only ride there, first ride on the Gary Fisher with stock tires, thought I was going to Die!
If it's not wet I'm in, if it rains from Friday on I'm out.

Yes it can be slippy but no more than mOOn, don't think it had so much to do with being wet...

...I have rode there all my life wet/snow/dry, even back when Ritchey Z-Max World Class 2.1 x 26 tires were the rage and got traction, must have been your tires!

Lee of all weekends to come up here & I`am out of town,oh well. Anyway I would say park at the main lot as the boat launch has a lot of fisher men on weekends, just saying. I think if ya go across the dam to start your ride take them up the yellow trail to the top & do the upper trails, that way if anyone doesn`t want to go all the way around you can sent them down to the red trail from any of the upper trails and head them back to the dam & parking lot & still have a pretty nice ride. Both trails on the 170 side are riding nice ,the white one is longer & more flow.I had to cut some trees out last week from all the wind & have been around all the trails and all is clear, hope you all have a good ride .KP

    Kevin,

Oh man, if you were able to ride with us that would have put us on the map for sure!

Would we be better off parking at the dam lot?

Thanks for the advice and all the great trail work, much appreciated!

Prompton Dam State Park Ride 8/19/12 Sunday

Lee, it looks like bikergirl and I should be able to make it. Never rode there before. Guess I'll have to rest the knees before then. I guess I'll check back here to see where the meeting place will be. Looks like it will be another great ride.

The main parking lot by the dam has more room, so that would work better, like Kevin said lots of fishermen use the boat launch this way we will have room for everyone.

The main parking lot is on Rt 170, I'll get a map of it up soon.

    Here's the map for parking...

...Rt6 onto Rt170, up the hill, then first parking area on your right. Lots of room.

not positive which way we’re driving there, so we’ll meet everyone at the main parking lot by the dam at 12:00pm. if someone would like to exchange cell numbers just in case something delays us on the way/we get lost that would be great. pm me.

Does anyone know where I can camp at or near the park? I see there's no camping at the state park. I know there's a few private camping places around but I'm just not sure where I should go.

Laurie and I are heading up tonight to camp and hang out. We'll be around tomorrow but may not do the big ride. Laurie is not quite up to the 15-20 mile rides yet. We'll see.....

miles/time/etc. if someone could post any info they had that would be great. no rush; just curious.

I beleive it was around 15 miles. That was some rugged terrain in parts and everyone rode great and we had a nice brisk pace going. The end got insane with the hills and rocks, there were some crazy rocky uphill section but they were a blast!!

Great ride today and the most important thing is everyone made it out injury free and had a good time. Where we going next? LOL ROADTRIP!

Today's word of the day NEPMTBA and Justinkoolaid is.......GRAVITY LOL had to be there lol
