First time I got to, post a 2013 date!

mOOn Lake trails are softening up due to solar radiation, wax choice is more critical, leaning towards spray or warmer selection.

Not much mt bike activity, although you can ride the more level trails closer to the parking area due to more wear on them. Fat Bikes would have no problems.

Forecast for the next week, clear with no snow. Trails will turn slushy and begin to show dirt again, field have a good enough layered base to allow skiing for much longer.

    Nesbitt Park Trails
    1/2013
I snowshoed them back and forth flattening out the snow.
I then Fat Biked them a few times further flattening and running them in.
Not easy but they can be ridden to get out on a bike and get the blood flowing.

    Good job!

    1/3/13

    Moon Lake
XC skiing is great, fields, service roads
Mt biking possible, but tough on regular bikes. I stuck to the more open trails and roads, and Atherton Rd is plowed
    Fat Bikes easier going

    Frances Slocum
Mt Biking possible, Fat Bikes easier going
XC skiing the nature trail in the park from the paddle boats is good, as are the upper fields and around the lake.

    Moon Lake:

Trails are softening up, with the solar radiation, yet shady spots remain frozen. With the warmer, rainy weather this coming week trails will be slushy. Better get out your sloppy weather gators...

On another note the ice on the lake is 4 inches thick and skating and fishing were in full swing as of today, Sunday, but beware "seep springs" do exist on Moon lake and hot spots do exist. Always be sure and safe before going out on ice!

Bradys Run Park trail report....some 'dirt' starting to show but mostly 1"-2" of slushy snow over 1" of crumbly ice. What's exposed is wet/ muddy. Warmer temps the next few days should clean out most of the snow and ice but it will likely be very muddy as the ground thaws. Then its gonna rain for 2 or 3 days....

South Rim trail has more snow and ice than the monkey side. Its packed hard and slick

More snow than Brady's Run but no ice. 90% of the trails are covered in 2"-6" of dry powder snow. The exposed areas are dry and frozen solid. Not rideable yet but like BRP should be clear next week and hopefully dry enough to ride.

    Good job!

    Moon Lake 1/9/13

Ski, good in the fields crusty ice on top of fluff, blue wax worked great tonight.

Bike, still tough to ride not frozen solid, but ice on top fluff under making for break through, unless your a snow techy rider or on a Fat Bike your gonna work to stay on top of that. Not to say it can't be done though, that's what makes winter snow so good... a new challenge!

    New snow at da mOOn...

Mt biking, Trails are slushy with wet and heavy snow.

XC skiing, Fields are covered again 4 inches of fresh, better go with a warm wax for day and medium temp for night. Swixx Blue for me!

    Moon Lake,

Mt Biking, trails that have been ridden since the new snow are frozen & rutted. Trails that are still virgin are frozen & crusty!

XC ski, Fields are frozen crusty. I'm going with this new stuff: Swix VR70 Fluoro Race Klister Wax: Red
Will be thawing Saturday should cover the range with added apply.

Lake ice, is back up to 3 plus inches!

    Frances Slocum,

XC ski, Fields are frozen with soft spots where the water usually lays.

... and if we just ...

    1/19/13

    Moon Lake,

Mt biking, minimal snow on trails, very rideable today, but with the deep freeze coming lots will turn to ice, might be the first chance I get to use my studded tires.

XC ski, fields still good, will freeze up hard and be less good with break through crust.

Lake ice, pretty bad today with the solar energy heating the insulated snow covered sections, will be excellent after the deep freeze.

Trails at the mOOn were for the most part muddy, snow in a few places, but mostly bare ground on the trails
