Good job! NEPMTBA/HCGA trail construction and MTBW plans

More MTB trails in the Wyoming Valley area to ride in the process of being constructed by NEPMTBA on the HCGA (Hunlock Creek Grove Associates) private property.

Just a little disclaimer first. "THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY" Sorry for the blast, but it is to protect everyone involved. The property is gated and patrolled

The plan is to have a camping MTB weekend sometime this September, so everyone can check it out! This property is less than one half mile from the fabulous 30 miles of mOOn Lake trails, and I already have permission from the great folks at the mOOn(like they don't know me by now. LOL) and the HCGA to connect all of it together for 2 days of super fun and riding at both places for the 1st Annual HCGA/NEPMTBA MTBW.

If you have already heard of this adventure, believe me we are not keeping this a secret! NEPMTBA is in the process of building: MTB trails, MTB endurocross, MTB Trials, and an all Wood MTB Pump Track! We have been building and riding the place to death in preparation of the MTBW in September! Trails are roughing in nicely. Five miles of trails are in place now, and this property is nothing like the mOOn. There are MOUNTAINS! Even more interesting are the ROCKS! Like our T-shirts say: "Ride the Rocks at Hunlocks" Or should it say: "Lee Likes ROCKS?" LOL

The property is owned by Moto riders (which many are buying MTB's as of lately. LOL) and contains many miles of Moto, Quad trails and old logging roads. As well as the constructed MTB trails, the "Green Moto Loop is very MTB friendly and interesting in it's own respect, No, it's not all ripped up, so don't jump to conclusions! We plan to use it for the MTBW as a kinder, gentler loop for riders who like that kinda stuff. Trails like "High Noon" "Hell Froze Over" and "Terminus Eldorado" are not kind "OR" gentle! Scott O. is making trail/name signs which are color coded as to show the applied trail is "MTB only" Nice job Scott The honorary trail #1 goes to "Fat Dog" (real dog) just don't try to hug him! He approved of his trail by, what else, but taking a dump on it! Ah! to be a Dog! We talked it over and "all" the land owners agree that only MTBs are allowed on the MTB trails!

I speak of the greatest thanks to the owners who have provided "every" opportunity to help with all aspects of this project, and totally know what it takes to join forces with others who ride, no matter what kind of vehicle

    STOP ME?????????? HA! HA!
NEPMTBA's opportunity to work with many great people continues, add HCGA to the list!

    Great News....

...Lee...thanks very much for the update and new riding area.....can't wait to give it a try......hopefully the Mtn Bike weekend won't be the same date as the Rattling Creek Single Trackers BASH which is scheduled for Sept. 15th-18th....it is the last year for the BASH. Thanks again, Ride On!
There are two paths you can go by but in the long run........

    Wink

    Thanks guys for the support!

    Last nights progress:

Different view of SOB (Scott O. Byway) LOL, Signage by Scott O. and the dog, the myth, the legend!(just don't hug him). Great old grow needed to be ridden through and a cleaning up dual purpose. Someone had a tree stand there from way back that is now laying all over the ground ruining this nice area. I can only imagine these trees were way closer together then and as they grew the tree stand just fell through. The property was clear cut back in the 80s and I am amazed these trees didn't see the ax.

Dirtrider: Dave is a great guy. I hope we can get him out on a ride sometime, as I did invite him to a mOOn ride.

    Wink

"Are the boardwalks over wet areas?"

Yes, it was a total worthless area till our hydro engineer shaped the water flow. The plan is to continue to shape the area till we have the runoff stream channeled through the boardwalk. We have yet to find a spring there, so I believe it is just runoff. What you see in the pics is the smoothest area. Prolly have it in lights sometime for night pump track. At the one end SOB continues as a dirt trail to the huge rocks as big as cars above. It is (pretty much unrideable, unless you can static and hop) MTB trail for now, but it will be on wood soon. It's really cool. Big molithic rocks are spread through the property. Makes ya feel really insugnificant as a human trying to ride a bike through them... LOL.

    Lots of fun(work) ahead.

"I've been wondering why we have not seen you as much at the Moon. Now we know why. Looks like you have been busy. The mountain bike weekend sounds great. can't wait to ride the new trails."

Well, actually I have been riding Moto trials on Wednesday nights for a week or two. I'm at the mOOn earlier on Wednesdays. Speaking of mOOn the big broken tree on Ledgeview will be gone tomorrow. Yaaaaaa...

When "night falls" does it get hurt?

    Wink More progress...

    Replies and tonights progress...

"sounds great; can't wait to check it out one day"

Red: Yes, one of the only places I know of that you can ride Motos and MTB on separate designed trails! We have plans for an Ironman weekend in the future with, one day of Moto riding and the other day MTBs of course while not riding will include adult consumption of copious amounts of liquids and dining on savory foods... LOL

    Progress:

Pics 1 & 2 The tree stand is no more on the newest trail called "Itchy Tire" The place is really hard on tires hence they do get very itchy. So far 3 shredded MTB tires and one MTB tire completely blown off the rim. The squirrels must be sharpening rocks at night... LOL

Pics 3, 4, 5, 6 New line being constructed on SOB, narrower, tighter, wood and rocks!

Pic 7 Who says you can't put big rocks on top of the wood... LOL Thanks go to the "glacier" for delivering that big baby!

Where does the "White" go when the snow melts?

What are the plans for access once trails are ready for users? Will anyone be able to ride here? You did say it was privately owned, right?

That's up to the landowners. They are a great group and lots of ideas are being thrown around. I'm doing the webwork for them, so I will have the info on all future events and happenings at HCGA. I will be updating the NEPMTBA http://nepmtba.piczo.com website soon with all the info. My other purpose for being there besides MTB trails is to set-up and host an NATC national Moto Trial http://mototrial.us/ in the future. If you have never seen a moto trials in person it is amazing. A Mt. bike race is in the works too.

One thing that helps is the location HCGA is close to mOOn trails, Mock trails, Penobscot Loop, Riverlands, Mt Top, CDH, and the Lackawanna State forest. All are already linked together somewhat. 100 miles of trails was my goal. It is a wonderful opportunity to get trails, so we all have lots to ride, but the people who have stepped up in our area are the absolute best. Sorry to ramble, but everyone has kept a giant support for mOOn and the Wednesday rides are always packed as well as the others mentioned. I'm sure HCGA will be added right in seamlessly.

Wink Great holiday weekend with lots more work done...

... as work progresses on the newest trail (Itchy Tire) is starting to look like a favorite trail. It has the making of many different types of terrain, starting with off camber nasty uphill rocks, followed by swoopy smooth downhill, to a logging area with a burned in moto trail, then "wood" over area, then a freek'in downhill grass field diving into a tight area covered in pine carpet, finishing up with a ride through the chicken coop(yes, literely) then rocky singletrack. Itchy Tire is the most important trail as it aligns the property to the access of more areas to be built in the future.

Pic 1: The "Toecutter"(you'll understand if you watched the original Mad Max movie) in the pines section of Itchy Tire.

Pic 2: Scott O. in the pines of Itchy TIre.

Pic 3 A little handwork with super potential(3 tabletops of wood over big stumps)..yee haa

Pic 4 (singing that stupid song) I'm too sexy for this bridge, this bridge, and my doggy. It's my doggie, as I do a little turn on the bridge(wait just don't try to hug FAt dOg... LMAO) I gotta get a vid of him as he has a new gimmick: He barks non stop at all of us to get us to watch him run into the pond and jump in and bite at the water. This dog is a riot!

Idea! The 4th at HCGA was...

... a hoot. Lots of activity, and Itchy Tire trail is almost complete with the hill climb section being last to be built. It will require lots of bench work as the trail transverses a slope that is quite steep! Lucky on two points. One it's mostly clay non organic and two, the trail passes one of the old logging roads and Shawn should be able to get "the machine" back there to rough in the area. Much easier than by hand with mattocks!!!! Once done it will allow a line that will put the rider out on the edge, yet able to stick to the slope enough to complete the section. Should be very interesting.

    Itchy Tire pics:
Pic 1: The stump section before work.

Pic 2; The stump section complete minus wood.

    Pic 3: More stump section

Pic 4: Scorpa trials moto was out for a spin. Nice bike!

    Good job!

Friday nights are special, seems the thunderstorms missed us tonight and lots got done at HCGA.

Itchy Tire has progressed quite a bit. The pics show the trail is now cleared and "wood" progress is next. This area was logged, and it is really cool how the ferns take over. They are great to look at or ride through, but weedwacking them lets their juices come out and man they are worse than poison ivy. Should of named the trail Itchy Ferns.. LOL

Too bad I took pics before, but it got dark, and I didn't get the final progress taken, so tomorrow I will have a very surprising update. The stumps are the clue. We now have a brandy new Stihl FS 90 wacker that takes all the heads. Look out now!

pics 1-5 are of progress on Itchy Tire
pic 6 is one of our 4 legged friends
pic 7 yes it will have a "skinny" on it too

    Good job!

    Got wOOd?

    Well...

...three of us loaded 3 truck fulls and delivered it to the land. So here's the pics I promised yesterday!

Itchy Tire trail will have a secession of 4 "woodys" each 40 feet apart that will make it a good rhythm section. At the end is the option "skinny" exiting the logged out area! Of course stuff still has to be trimmed and set in.

Next is the "bench work" on the cross hill sections!

    Back to SOB...

...the newest line (Rocker) just about complete!

A line that is woody and rocky, only 12 inches wide, with a few turns and ups, along the way it rides part of the old rock wall that was there for more than 100 years! Entrance and exit are tricky!

Ride the Rocks and the Woody at Hunlocks!

Wink The adventures of Ruger and Fee-Fee...

...while building trails today I see a very funny thing. Ruger taking Fee-Fee for a stroll. It just struck me as a great site cause Ruger is a much older dog and he took it in stride as to his owner giving him responsible of protecting Fee-Fee from harm. Fee-Fee can hold his own and Ruger never flinched when other dogs came around! Jimmy said Fee-Fee is really a cat but dressed as a dog so Ruger doesn't "EAT HIM"... LOL

I know what does it have to do with trails well... The Itchy Tire trail connection with High Noon is complete and it contains more of the famous Hunlocks Rocks... weeeeeeeee

    pics a more tomorrow!

    Good job!

Rocks, rocks, rocks, large, small, and most of all ROCKS!

The day was about 3 things: Itchy Tire gets nicked, flicked, and our yellow jacket friends were relocated from the trail, "ROCKS" at High Noon, and our newest trail "DR"

First 3 pics of the Itchy Tire extension leading to High Noon is complete and even has it's own multi-line 3 rock section(I did mention we ride Rocks at Hunlocks didn't I?) The rest of Itchy Tire including the VW rock ride section is all done... weeeeeeeee (we might bench stuff later????)
    ...nah just ride it

pics 4-6 The real fun, working in the sweltering heat moving around rocks that weighed, o, say thousands of pounds... it's all in the balance!

High Noon finally gets the really BIG SCARY line that it deserves, and don't worry it's right at the beginning, so missing it means a tail between the legs ride down the service road to the parking lot... LOL... there "is" a "sneak line" for non landscapers! Lucky the rock we used had 2 separate top rocks that could be moved off each side to provide ramps for a super large table top slab. Straps, comealong, large iron pry bars(which by the way both got bent) and even tiedowns to nearby trees finally yielded the bass turds to move. They were last moved by the glacier 100,000 years ago, much easier then... LOL

pic 7 Fat Dog took a rest after chasing a Moto through a ditch and he almost blew out his front forks!... Good Dog(just don't hug him)

no pics yet of DR... connected to Terminus Eldorado is our newest trail DR, lots of climbing and a great Top o the Ridge rock play area with many lines and huge slab rocks some as big as cars. And that's not even the top of the mountain yet. Then DR takes a stroll to the Licktop Rock(a massive outcrop bigger than a house) Epic, epic, epic!

Funny how all the Moto guys keep telling my their tires wear out really quick at Hunlocks!

More later gotta go ride it all...

ps... Hey Tony check the one pic see anything?

Wink What's really long and really skinny?...

    ... Line Nine...

    pics 1-4

the newest line on the Woody. Prolly end up being a bit wider than 9 inches to encourage more to ride it, but we won't tell anyone will we? It's really good when you can use a fallen tree in 2 different directions and for two totally different line designs.

pic 5 Tony and Scott in the sweltering heat had the quad hooked up to straps to tune the Bikes of the Round Table rock at the intersection of High Noon and Itchy Tire. The top of this rock is so big and flat and you could park a car on it and still have room left for more.

    More later...

... and if we just ... This should put the thread over 1000 views...

... After the 1 hour torrential downpour everyone got to work...

Working on "Line Nine" in the Woody. Line Nine will be the first line to leave the SOB Woody area and connect with the upper mototrials area, where it can be looped back if you like or continue on upper SOB... confused yet?... LOL Riding it will sort it all out, I'm just being articulate!

The 2 machines arrived Friday to expand the pavilion area. It will be really nice when the MTB Weekend rolls around. Lots of tree cutting, stump removal, shuffling of dirt, and all that sourced lots of firewood too for the MTBW. I was drooling at the super skinnys being cut up though. No fear as more remain, especially on Hell Froze Over for the 2 way teeter totter(one each direction next to each other) Got that picture?... LOL

Making my job much easier Ray delivered a Suzuki King Quad to use with plans of adding a trailer to the back of it. Should come in really handy to get around the miles of logging roads to get stuff done. The Factory Ford Focus has been on some really scary rocks as of lately getting farther out to build trails.

We had a new guy stop by fron Jersey and he was totally blow away when he heard we have mt bike trails, also on the land. He saw the Woody and just smiled. Five bucks says when he visits next time the MTB is in the truck too.

In the one pic it looks like the "local dog union" got together and hired a contractor to dig up their dog bones!... LMAO

    Good dogs!

Thanks to Brian and Stephanie for the great food, and to the rest for a good days work done!

    Good job!

Stopped by after the race to do a little trail work in the rain...

... of course working on trails in the rain is a great way to see where the water likes to go!

After spending a few days at the drafting table, and looking at the land on topo maps trying to figure how to use this very "thin ridge trail area" I finally discovered a way to use it as a trail that will benefit us in 3 ways, rather than a hum drum rock crawling experience.

One, it will provide a connection with Itchy Tire, this allowing a direction change and open more areas to trails, without climbing a total mega rock infested hill...

Two, From the ridge trail going left opens up an area very similar to T-Rex 2 at the mOOn. Flowing connected turns that provide fun! Might even Lolli-pop it to reconnect with Itchy Tire and do laps!

Three, From the ridge trail going right puts the rider back in the rocks. Not a bad thing just a different type of terrain.

So there it is another new trail and area to add to the Hunlock's Rocks riding area. It's roughed in and will be open for the "Ride da rocks at Hunlocks MTB Weekend on October 1&2

    Good job!

    Hurricane........ baaa...

... just get wetter when it rains sideways... LOL

Biggest problem was getting there, roads blocked, one with 17 trees... so I helped cut trees out since I had the chain saw and fuel in the vehicle, even met one guy who asked about mt biking at mOOn, after our brief conversation while cutting trees off the road, then he asked me "where the hell I was going to" Told him to HCGA, to work and ride. You had to see the look on his face! A true believer

Got the new bridge built on Itchy Tire(IT) over the water line. Got it really level and smooth as to not deflect riders cause it is in a turn and up a bit, riding it puts you out over the view.

The Suzuki 4wd quad works great for hauling tools and lumber even if I can't get right on the trail near is close enough... Thanks again Ray!

Right after the bridge on IT the angled log over got a small ramp filler, should improve flow but yet hold interest as an object.

Sorry for a few blurry pics due to the rain, I'll get better ones next time.

WOW... THAT is amazing work , dedication, and much loyalty . I wish NJ had more people like you and trails like this , its a shame since we have soo many mountains and nobody is creative up here. You guys looking to maybe add some DH kind of style trails? with some nice berms, drops, and 3-4 jumps ? WOuld be pretty sweet !

    Good job!

    Thanks for your great comments...

...I'll pass it on to the land owners also!

We have been looking at the property elevations and after the XC trails are done we plan to have a DH line or two. We have the wood to build also, good thing is its private property and owned by Moto guys so jumping is right up their alley, some of the moto trails have super ledge drops now, but in true moto style they usually slam right back up the next ridge, pretty much impossible on an MTB.

I hope you can gather a group in NJ someday. NJ has some of the greatest trails alll around. Have hit many of the H2H races got to see lots!

As soon as I hit the lottery for a realy big amount I will just ride around and build stuff for people to ride!

We have a mt bike weekend at the HCGA and Moon lake properties October 1-2 your invited, come ride, drink, and be hairy... LOL

The trees on FaT Fog are chainsawed out. The bottom section of High Noon is blown out and clear now. The Boardwalk section is blown clear and back to normal now too. I should be up there tomorrow and we'll see how much more can get cleared.

Lee, I have your gas can still too. I'll put it in the Red Building if I don't see you Monday.

Smile The continuing growth of the DR trail...

... as it gets longer it spans more very interesting areas of the HCGA land.

Scott O. and myself continued to work today on the DR trail completing the next section down from the Mono Rock. Did I mention the Mono Rock before? Nope, cause till now it was a closely guarded secret area of the land! I will tell of a rock the size of a house does exist and is ridable in a unique way. Entering with a shoot the gap type of section, it continues up and over through large stepped ledge rocks and has 3 different exits, one double drops off a big rock, another drops at an angle, while the third is a "once you commit, your it" The Mono Rock is bordered by blackwater on one side and a ridge line on the other, which both are in play in different ways. No pictures will be released, so you just have to ride it in person. If you can that is... LOL

Fat Dog supervised all work today...

... speaking of today's work, the next section of DR contains a feature know now as the "Triangle Straight Angle" as coined by Scott. Staring with a super tight uphill turn(you know how much we like that kind of stuff... LOL), entering on 2 large elevated triangle rocks to a shelf that will surly be an interesting challenge. It does contain one hard line, one scary line, and one "WHAT THE HELL" line (insert Jay can ride this here)... LOL... all for added interest.

Moving all these huge rocks with the winch on the Suzuki Quadmaster 4WD garners another big thanks to Ray and the use of his quad to make all this easier and possible. He even tops it off with fuel every time we need to use it "RAY RULES"

Fat Dog wants you to know he has 2 big surprises. One on the next section of DR, a hint, it will include lots of blackwater, and U bolts, the other is, can DR contain a loop within a loop? Sure can!

    So till next time,
    Fat Dog(go ahead giv'em a HUG!)signing off

    To the HCGA crew...

... I'm planning on being at the land 8 AM on Saturday for a full day work, concentrating on the DR trail and the area Scott O. and I researched. Since we are so far out now here's a bit of my location info. I will start at the rock feature next to the "shoot" that parallels the gas line access and work back towards the property line corner!

Planning to ride after the work to test run/tune the sections of DR

    Good job!

Work continued today on the Dirt Rag trail...

... with Jimmy M and Scott O joining me we added another 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile of trail, wind howling across the ridges one had to keep moving to stay warm! This trail will be truly "Epic" when finished as we are taking our time to find every feature and flow area to allow the future users to experience true mt biking on trail designed for that purpose.

After the work day Jimmy M had cooked up 2 smoked chickens and boy did they taste great! Talk about hitting the spot! Thanks Jimmy!

    Work continues Sunday...

    Progress...

... Future work will continue on Dirt Rag, with more trail being put on dirt this winter...

... also on the winter agenda an easy/wider "green" loop! Getting together with Scott and Jimmy on this one as they have talked about it before. It will work great for snowy winter riding to get up to the top, and around the property.

    Good job!

    More work completed...

... working from the top of the climb over to the Mono Rock and further today. The Mono Rock got a huge tune up with multiply lines now in place. There is no easy line in this section, just SCARY, ULTRA SCARY and SCARED SHEEP!!!!!!!!!! ... LOL

This section kinda reminds me of Arlo's motorcycle song lyrics:
... On one side of the mountain road there was a mountain, and on the other side there was nothin' - there was a cliff in the air.

So... in the first selection of pics, you enter Mono Rock hop across rock gaps, then descend dropping off a huge rock incline. I have done it on a rigid SS 29er and from the top it looks like your gonna die, but it really rolls out smooth if you just commit and pull a bit at the bottom.

As you can see the pics descend from the top then the last pic I turned around for the pic looking back up, and Fat Dog is in the same place, so you can see just how steep it is even though the camera flattens it, you can imagine it is much steeper in person! The thing is THIS IS THE EASIEST LINE! The others are, well... gotta see them in person!

Next selection of pics... surprise, surprise Dirt Rag trail gets a Woody, after the Mono Rock and the Angle Straight Angle you descend through a rock cliff section bordered by Blackwater so a deck was necessary to get up and out of the water. It is a very cool section, and very scenic.

This one section of DR containing highlights: Dragons Back, West Virginia, Mono Rock, Angle Straight Angle, "Tits", and Blackwater which amounts to about 500 feet of trail, and it has sucked up between 40 and 60 hours with 2 workers at the helm, designing, roughing in, brushing out, kicking sticks, laying rocks, dropping trees, building bridges, and final tuning shows just how much work goes into this stuff, and it's only halfway finished.

    Ride da Hunlocks Rocks
    all 3 of them... LOL

    Good job!

    Work was fun today ...

GB and Amesue removed leaf debris from the trails with their back pack blowers, then joined us for the Teeter-Totter build and ...

... building the 20 footer Teeter-Totter on Hell Froze Over at HCGA was a treat. We hauled all to tools including air compressor, generator, nail gun and power tools to Terminus and constructed the awesome TT, with a few optional lines also, making that area of trail even more fun to ride.

    Next time we ride...
    ... pics of the fun!

    Dave and Amesue,
Thanks for all your help today. For sure a good day. I picked up some 12" spikes tonight to finish up the TT. A bit more work on the top section of Dirt Rag and it should be done except for any alt lines anyone sees and wants to put in.

I think I need to try that chute tomorrow... I'm in class all week so a few scratches and a dent or two will heal while sitting behind a terminal.

    Lee,
Thanks as always for all your work.

    Good job!

    Today was super...

...weather was warm and sunny. Scott O, groomed the open sections of DR while I roughed out the next new addition to DR running back towards Itchy Tire. Even though the connection is 2 ridges away right now, I can't wait for the day it's all connected.

Scott O. cut wood for our upcoming Christmas party! Great to have nice weather to work in!

    Good job!

    More done today...

... the highlight being the bridgework on the Blackwater section of Dirt Rag is done, done, done, but not without notice, as we worked Scott O's both dogs got into a porcupine, with Fat Dog returning looking like a pin cushion and Casey non the less much better so, they both had to go to the doggy vet. I hope they are OK...

... we were visited by the other 2 dogs that protect the property: Ebony and Pup! They were very happy to see us...

... at that point I headed over to another new section of DR and roughed it in, after Scott returned we finished the brigdework with a few additions. After your tires leave the woody they get to enjoy a "rock gap" and some nice rock slab work, with more coming in the future...

... Then we proceeded to begin to tackle the Dragon's Back a line of elevated rocks which will have no optional line "ride or walk it" Like Scott said: "There will always be some sections of trail that some just can't ride!

    Ride da Dragon's Back
    ... more next time!

    Good job!

The new Skinny on Itchy Tire is done!

Scott O. and I got it finished today, located on Itchy Tire it's 6 inches wide and prolly 40 feet long going up and down over a stump with a 1 foot elevation gain! A real fun ride!

Dirt Rag got another section added today and finished ready to ride! It will climb along a ridge with great views like other sections of DR. Unlike other sections of DR it is fairy smooth and not real technical. A rest for the upcoming long hard climb up to the "Stinker" Rock section!

Future work will include the "slalom" section of DR, and the "Great Rock Scare" section of DR! Getting DR closer to a competed loop of pure joy for the rider looking for everything in one trail.

Can't wait for the NEPMTBA/HCGA Christmas party December 3rd as we all get to ride the fun again, check it out here:

    Good job!

With 2 different trails in the process...

...of building leaves lots on the plate, and today after the mOOn ride more Dirt Rag was roughed in. This section will be a descending slope similar to T-Rex over at da mOOn, hence called the slalom section of DR(read jumps). Less techy and more open, wedged between two ridges the "slalom on DR" will be the meat in the climbing sandwich and a fun rest from the two climbs, that preceed and follow it. As the 2 pics show the before and after but don't really do it justice as the trail heads towards the cliffs and is very scenic!

Introducing another new ribbon of Dirt at HCGA, "Bouncing Betty" a true downhill that will, when finished feature multi lines including different levels of ramps and dirt jumps. Winding its way down to the parking lot in the perfect place to allow shuttle runs for continous enjoyment, or a loop back up Fat Dog for the XC crowd. In the process of lining up a machine to rough it in hopefully before the frost.

Bouncing Betty also runs through a future planned area that will feature bike/moto trials area called "Section One" which will be completed between now and spring 2012, and right in time for HCGA's Moto trials scheduled for 2012!

    Good job!

    Bouncing Betty gets...

... roughed in with the quad, turning the soil to find lots of clay based good stuff for loamy traction. The placement of jumps have been selected, after much pre riding to find the perfect place for air! The machine and operator are all lined up and in the next few weeks BB will be on the way to completion!

The pics show the location after the large tabletop, the elevation drops into a roller berm, then uphill with the quad being used to show the elevation drop near the rock quarry pond, it can be seen the actual drop is smooth and flowing.

The following pics show Kirby checking out the huge skinny near Section One trials area!

    Good job!

    The Green(easy) loop is done...

...except for marking it the day before the Christmas party/ride. Jimmy and I took the motos out and got it mapped in! Must say it is a good one with the start at the main parking lot then using the entrance road it wraps around the property with a very gradual climb and avoids the techy and big hill climb areas, by using logging roads and some singletrack.

The main idea was also to give the first timer or beginner a sample of some of the HCGA single track trails, and this could be used as a Cyclo-X course too! It takes a tour through part of Itchy Tire, and using the top section of the new Bouncing Betty DH running across to a great descent down Fat Dog finishing back right at the main parking lot! Mileage will be between 1.5 to 2 miles, just a perfect distance for a warm up or beginner loop. It's pretty easy as Jimmy rode his scooter on it and had no problems!

The bon fire is stoked up and the ghetto barrels are ready but with the weather forecast I doubt we will need them.

I should have Thursday off. I have some white ribbon we can use for marking the green loop. If anyone is in the mood to hangout on Thursday or get some stuff ready just come on by, I should be there.

    Good job!

    Just add...

... 2 Trail building maniacs, 2 Chain saws, Leaf blowers, clippers, mini saws, 1 Quad, a Nissan Frontier, Wackers with string and saw heads and...

... Dirt Rag trail gets "2" new sections done in "1" day

The "Trail between the Ridges" is complete, a flowing DH bounded on both sides by flowing climbs that will keep your heart rate way up there! This is a major long section completed and ready to ride all in time for the Christmas party ride!

The 2nd ridge climb yet unnamed is very scenic with the trail winding its way along the moss covered exposed rock ridge.

Our two fav guard dogs, Pup and Ebony(no sight of Drop Kick Murphy... LOL)were in the usual location doing their jobs!

    Good job!

    Something is happening...

...the construction of the next segment of the Dirt Rag trail is progressing! Making DR about 75 percent finished, Yahoo!

This section provides the rider with a downhill flow highlighted by HCGA's famous "Green" rock outcrops that come in great large, flat topped sizes perfect for riding over and off of! Look for a few tricky traps in this new section that will tune your skills.

Doesn't look like much in da pics, but you know it will be fun once done...

    Good job!

    Scott, Fat Dog, and myself...

....hit the trail today to finish off the newest section of Dirt Rag Trail. We cleaned up loose stuff, and made a few challenge areas to enjoy. The ground is loosening up, and leaves are moving off quiet nice. From the top of the Well house this section is basically all downhill, with flowing sections that wind up and down into and out of flow, great for pump driven maneuvers.

The upper run basic flow, entering half way, the "Enchanted Tree" awaits 2 super crazy lines to be built, that will have the rider going up and over an elbow shaped tree 10 feet up. Line one will be the first built and straight forward you'll either do it or you won't, short up long steep down. Line 2 will be more involved and has yet to be decide how much work we want to put into it!... LOL(no pics yet)

Next challenge lies near the end, "Huey Tree" stepped uphill rock ledges. Multiple lines exist, no real run at it, just have to go for it, end up being a dirty ride to get it, this will be another one prolly nobody gets this side of Jay Gregorowicz! You can see the steepness where Scott is standing. Even the pics show the steepness and difficulty, so in person much harder!

Last is the "Stump Rock", pretty straight forward, up, over, off, left turn, out... Designed coming down but the other pics shows a much more difficult line going up, really off axis and apex! It is designed to have two completely different lines depending on direction!

Fat Dog, sums up the day with a good rest in the back of the truck for the ride out!

Next up on the work list, the "Twins" section of DR, a dual of death between trails... Stay tuned

    Ride da Rocks...

Is that the trail we rode on the last invite that was just being made?
I kind of remember the beginings of that section off to the right, looks to be quite the challenge!
You guys sure put in a lot of time and hard work making these awesome trails and it's greatly appreciated.

    Good job!

Thanks guys, and yes that is the section we rode before it was cleared...

...what a difference it makes, and cr500 has offered more land to use for the DR trail, thus making it twice as long as it is now and using a totally different area of the land, but since the Pasta rides start next Friday we have decided to shortcut out and reconnect since thew DR was going away from the MTB trail system! The trail already cut will still be DR just added a bit sooner...

...now with that total confusion explained... LOL

    Good job!

    Super day with lots done...

...first off picking up drain pipes!
If anyone can lend a hand

Then it was wood time at the mill, followed by mass trail building, MTB and Moto trails were put to dirt...

...Moto got another loop with neat rock features much like the MTB trails, MTB got the finish of Dirt Rag trail just in time for the upcoming Friday Night Pasta Rides starting this Friday night.

Our usual 4 legged friends are always present, Ebony smiling,(pic 2) and Bear Cub(pic 7, 8, 9) gathering wood from the pond, Fat Dog, Pretty Paws, Dozer, and Pup were there also...

Lee and I were out last night and did a bit of work. The new old section got some tune-ups and there is a line that will just taco a wheel if it you try it and drop a wheel... Then we went over the the squeezer/birth canal area on Hell Froze over and put in the alternate lines we have been talking about. There is now a C-section line, D, E, F, G and JJ line. Some of those lines are not for the weak at heart so after dropping off the slab rock stop at the gasline and give the section a look for new lines there are plenty.

    Good job!

That's why I get paid the big bucks...

    ...LMAO

Actually from designing and laying out moto trials events I always look to challenge the rider and not just run them through crap with no line sight. Anyone can layout a "hey just go for it" type of trail, but finding the apex traps makes it fun and challenging, well you know what I mean you have competed in moto trials! It's always the small root or rock that gets the dab out of ya!

You sure make the rider think about line choice thats for sure!
A lot of times especially in the corners I'm thinking where I need to put the front tire so the rear tire rolls through clean, very challenging.

    Good job!

    New trail...

    ...named "Kirby"

Lots o Rocks, and big ups, downs, arounds in the process, added lots of locker for traction! This will be an alternate to the first climb joining Fat Dog near the middle at the Terminus intersection, as the lower trail quadrant comes full circle, with Fat Dog, Kirby, SOB, SOB Woody, Itchy Tire a mini fun loop with lots of tech has developed.

Will also make for great Moto trials sections for the up coming Moto trials event this summer!

    Hunlocks Rocks...
    ...ride them if you can?
