    A little green trail work

Last night NEPMTBA and I decided to do a little trail maintenance/grooming. We started out on 8 where our efforts increased the flow of a trail that already had more Flo than Mel's Diner...LOL!!!

Next, as the ride kicked off I headed over to Screamer. There was some blowdown on this incredible trail so I decided to see what I could do. With the use of a bow saw and good old grunt work I was able to open things up more for everybody to enjoy!!!

I just had to get a picture of this unusual growth on one of the trees on 8. If you see this on the trail and have a moment stop and check it out...very unusual!

The next pics are creepy invisible bike pics!! No, after talking with some local head doctors the advice I got was that the creepy invisible bike pics were too creepy and could cause permanent and severe damage...so I won't post those!!! Instead here are some before and after shots of Screamer.

It is difficult to see in this before shot, but smaller sticks were encroaching out into the trail so they need to be cleared.

The other end of the tree was actually hanging in some vines about 30 feet up so I just worked everything until it all came tumbling down.

Here is a rather large pine that blew down before Squeezer, it had already been moved off the trail by other concerned mt bikers. The problem was that branches again were encroaching on the trail. Also, anybody that has been in the woods knows what pine brances are like and the possible safety issues if you should happen to fall on them. Out came the bow saw and some muscle!!! Not a true before pic as I started hacking before I took it...LOL!!!!

Cleared from the trail and much safer!!!
Waging war on my pedals every chance I get!!!

I think one day we should all get together to attack NFS and 58-58. They are in need of some leaf blowing and general clearing, but that is a heck of a job for just 2 or 3 people.
