A great day for a Canoe Race and riding the trails along the Lackawanna river in Scranton Pennsylvania.
First the trail, the newest section of the Lackawanna River Corridor Association(LCRA) river trail is well under construction and has reached the borough of Taylor. Starting above Stillwater Dam near Uniondale a distance of 40 miles away the trail is almost at it's destination of the confluence of waters meeting the Lackawanna river & the Susquehanna River near Pittston Pa.
This is unique trail as it follows many different passageways from times gone by. Rails that were converted to trails, river paths, and dirt walkways that were old mining paths for workers to get to work have been used in the building of this trail.
Along with that a stone and wood carver has offered his talent to make this a super place not only to ride but explore, and if you think it is the usual flat rail/trail you would be mistaken as it is constantly in transition of elevation and winding it's way along through turns. One unique aspect is like a few other trails that half is paved for roller bladers and road bikers were as the other is packed base for mt bikers and dogs to enjoy.
The trail has splits where the dirt sections wander off in a different direction closer to the river while the paved section takes a different route, very cool.
The Canoe Race, had many sponsors and Cedar Bike and Paddle were in the mix with a great display and helpful info, as well as owner Chaz Ross competing in the race. This is a yearly event attracting many competitors from surrounding states!
