New question here. Hubbard Single Speed ride Thursday night?

    Fellow Riders:

    Here's the deal.

We all ride SS tomorrow night. You don't need a SS bike just pick a gear and "NO SHIFTING ALLOWED" for the entire ride!

     Anyone scared?

I hear Winny Stinny will buy your dinner if you participate!

    Good job!

    Rob:

If 1:1 is the gear of your choice then so be it. That will put you at 26 inches of gear (IOG) using 32/32 would be better than 22/22

Main stream singlespeed gearing used to be 55 IOG equal to about Middle 32t Ring and 7th Cog 14t or 13, but now 52 seems more the trend which is 2:1 or Middle 32t and 6th Cog 16t. It's hard to match this stuff on gearing , because the teeth are different on some rear cog sets. So just getting it close and trying ss is a good thing. It's all about the ride not the gearing. For Hubbard or hilly rides more like 50 IOG is reasonable, but no ones counting your gearing. You do as you feel is working for you. Taller gearing allows the rider to power into stuff, because it is much harder and uses more energy to stand and spin a smaller gear. Yes the bigger gear will catch up with you faster and you will feel the need to use you power and be more aggressive, but it that fact it will make you stronger and more aware of the strength you gain.

Put it in a gear and ride, learn to find a new way to attack hills and use flow to aid momentum. Discipline rules here!

    So let me guess?

1-1 equals one foot after the other? In other words single speed equals WALKING!
