    The Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!

In order to give the appearance of me being organized, I have decided to start this thread to chronicle my adventures!!! Today, I decided to hit da Moon with a few of my friends!!! Ronnie, Sammy, Ozzy, and I had a great time at da Moon!!! Gotta love MP3 players...LOL!!! I rode from the main gate up past the tennis courts as a kind of warm up. Then I hit the trails beginning with Rock Waterfall, rolling up onto Big Blue, then I decided to check out the new re-route on Buddy's!!! It is awesome...the whole trail is amazing!!! From there, I rode down the paved road and into The Dark. At this point, I was really riding well and became delusional and decided I was going to ride up Screamer...by the time I got to Squeezer gravity had dealt me a swift slap to the face so I turned around. I concluded my ride with Farm Road, MoZee, Peak-a-Boo, and the paved road out to my car. All in all, I did 4 miles in 41 minutes...not too shabby!!! You just gotta nail it, Jim!!!

moto - since it sounded like lee tried to kill everyone with the hills last ride , maybe you can figure out the best route to take so it feels like you're always going down hill

glad you got to ride; seems like you had a good day too.

    Moon x Three

Three times at da Moon in the last two days!!! I started off with a great ride yesterday morning followed a great walk with my adorable girlfriend last night...great way to spend a Sunday!!! Woke up relatively early this morning, made some eggs and turkey bacon for breakfast and aimed the Honda towards da Moon!!! Had a great ride, really picked up the pace the last few times I have ridden!!! Ran into a guy at Deacon, didn't catch his name, but he said he was going to hit up the Wednesday night ride....he was riding a really nice black and red Specialized!!!

I finally made it all the way up the hill coming off TTS up to 8...hey hill, how do you like me now? I rode TTS down to the original 8 and was hammering through there better than I ever have...that's when I hit a little tombstone coming into a corner and went down pretty good!!! I thought chicks digges scars...but mine doesn't like it!!! LOL!!!

    Sunday at da Moon!!!

Today was a family day at da Moon!!! I rode while my girlfriend, Lisa and her daughter Brittany took a nature hike!!! I started out on Nature's Way 1 to 8...rode 8 all the way up to T-Rex1!!! From there I toured the campground and descended the big stinky downhill to the new extension of Watkins. I changed a flat and proceeded up the paved road from the lake to Buddy's and up Twister!!! From there, I just hit the paved road and out to the car!!! What an amazing day at da Moon!!!

    Happy MoonDay!!!

Today, I visited the Moon again without the Mono!!! Lisa and I decided to hit da Moon for a little nature hike!!! Trails are in beautiful shape!!! We did a little trail cleaning as we went. I introduced her to Skinny's and she really liked it!!!

On our way out we stopped at Deacon in order to check my sugar and we were surprised to see a well-known celebrity enjoying the man-made obstacles at da Moon!!!

    Glorious Day at Da Moon!!!

Third day in a row at da Moon with beautiful weather!!! It doesn't get much better than this!!! I was joined today by Lisa and her son, Brandon!!! Since Brandon is still handicapped by his cast...Lisa and Brandon decided to do a nature walk!!! While they were enjoying their walk I was putting my legs and lungs to the test!!! I started out from the Marina. I took the extension of Watkins and from there jumped Skinny's and then up to the campground. I rode up T-Rex 2 and had all intentions of riding T-Rex1, but I was pretty tuckered so I decided to take a raincheck on that one today. I hooked onto 8 by the old stone steps and rode down to Deacon and back to the Marina. It was a great ride on a great day!!! Looking forward to the Wednesday night ride tomorrow!!!

    Urban Pedal Warfare

Today, I decided to do a nice town ride!!! So me and the Mono hit the rail bed in Swoyersville and headed off towards Exeter and West Pittston. It was a great ride until I got to Exeter and heard the dreaded woosh of air from my back tire. Then reality slapped me when I realized I left my tools and spare tube in my car!!! Walked about three blocks to Sickler's for a new tube. The guy was really great!!! I was about 30 cents short, but he hooked me up. Then let me borrow a pedal wrench and their shop pump!!! Got going again and turned my trusty steed towards home and off I went!!! All in all, it was a great ride...just over 8 1/2 miles and an hour and 8 minutes riding time!!!

    Roadpirate's Welcome Back/Happy Birthday Ride

What a great time at da Moon yesterday!!! We were celebrating Roadpirate's birthday and return to da Moon after getting his unfortunate skateboarding accident!!! It was Roadpirate, Dirtrider6, Buddy123 with Buddy and Barney, tuffgrl, and mini. We were joined by NEPMTBA, Justingkoolaid, and RRHines for an amazing ride!!! We started off from the big pavilion down by the lake up past the maintenance buildings to Deacon. We all started up the service road, but I ended up riding that hill three times because Barney decided he wan't ready to join the ride yet...LOL!!! We then hit Ledgeview, 8, Edge, T-Rex 2. Roadpirate and I opted out of doing Screamer. Off to the pavilion for some great company and some good eats!!! Just wanted to thank everyone for helping make Brandon's return such a special one. Thank you!!!

Lisa and I got new phones the other day!!! We had Straight Talk phones and they worked great, but I lost coverage from outside of Luzerne all the way up to da Moon!!! Went to Verizon and got Samsung Galaxy Stellars. Download an app called Move! Bike Computer...Love It!!! You can map your ride and download it to Google earth!!!

Beautiful day for a Moon landing!!!

Today Lisa, Brandon, and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather at da Moon!!! Lisa and Brandon decided to head out on Nature's Way1 while I was getting ready for the ride!!! Good thing I hung behind because another rider needed my assistance in the form of borrowing my cell phone because he locked his keys in his car. Once everything was squared away, I set out on my journey to join Brandon at the lake. I rode down the paved road and ducked in on Peek-a-Boo and down to the lake. I decided to introduce Brandon to Skinny's, from there we ducked onto 8 rode that down the cut-out on the first section. We ended our ride by enjoying Ledgeview and the service road down by Maintenance and out the road!!! It was a great ride with no injuries other than being sore when we got home!!!

    Beautiful day at da Moon!!!

Yesterday was far too beautiful of a day to not be at da Moon!!! Since I had not really been doing any serious riding for a few weeks, I decided to take an easier route!!! I started out on Nature's Way1 to What. From the end of what I jumped out on the service road and up towards Nature's Way1. I then jumped on the paved road and headed up past the tennis courts to Big Blue!!! As I approached the Nature Center I felt an odd sensation on the trail...rear tire was losing air!!! Not a problem....I had my tire tools, a tube, and a pump with me! Now for the problem...I forget my wrench for the rear axle bolts back in the car...well, I guess it was a nice day for a walk, too...LOL!!!

    Damn!!!

Brandon and I were out tooling around town on our bikes yesterday when I ran over a big rock under the leaves...the impact caused such pain in my right foot I had no choice but to see the doctor today. He said I have plantar fascitis! I am on some powerful anti-inflammatories and I am supposed to stay off my feet as much as possible! I hope this gets better soon!

    It's That Time!!!

I got out for a shakedown ride on my new Giant Talon yesterday...thanks to Dave at Valley Cycles for such a great deal!!! I felt like I was flying, well, at least while I was able to breathe decently...I have not been riding and exercising like I should be!!!

Guess what time it is!!! If you guessed sweatpants, duct tape, and hiking boots time...you are absolutely CORRECT!!! Enjoy the ensuing pictures of the madness about to ensue!!!

Black Friday Deals at da Moon!!!

All dirt and rocks are free!!! Smiles are half off!!! Decided to celebrate Black Friday away from the crowds and head to da Moon!!! Started off on Nature's Way1 to What and then I headed to da lake to see if the Eagles were awake yet. Sure enough, they were!!! As I was rolling down to the lake, one launched out of a tree about 20 feet from me. From the lake, I took that little twisty trail(don't know the name)over to the Big Stinky Downhill over to Skinny's. I rode and hike-a-biked up to da campground and then hit up T-Rex2. I decided to give Screamer a try on my new Talon...man, that thing is fast going down there...good thing it has good brakes!!!

The bike will be serving double duty on the street, too. With some rides in low light, so I decided to keep the reflectors

Lisa and I were in a festive holiday mood so we headed to da Moon with a bag of Christmas decorations. We felt the Christmas tree on Ledgeview needed a little updating!!! Enjoy the tree and be safe!!! See you on the trails!!!

    3 in a row!!!

I wasn't planning on riding today, but my bike had different ideas. It gave me a Monster and said to get my arse in gear!!! Today marked my third consecutive day of riding at da Moon!!! It was another 3.5 mile ride, although I took a different path. I started out on the paved road and peeled off onto the dirt road going by the tennis courts. I jumped onto Rock Waterfall and then up to Big Blue. I made my way past the Nature Center and down to Buddy's. From there, I went past the lake and the maintenance buildings. From there I decided on something different and turned off onto the Deacon Trail, finishing up with NW1, NW2, What, NW1 and out!!! I love da Moon!!!

    Celebrating Dec at da Moon!!!

It was a beautiful day for a ride at da Moon!!! Brandon and I hit up da Moon today to celebrate the great December weather with a six mile ride!!! I had a feeling that there would be a lot of people enjoying da Moon today and I was correct...we counted 30 cars!!! Once we unloaded, we hit the trails...across the field to Thorny and then hit Rock Waterfall and up to Big Blue. From there, I introduced Brandon to Buddy's...he really liked it!!! Down to the lake to look for the Eagles...they must have been napping...LOL!!! From there, it was up the Big Stinky Uphill to the campground!!! Took the service road from the back of the campground down to the stone steps(or where they used to be)and then ducked in on 8. Ran 8 down to the service road and back out to the car. Turned out to be a 6 mile ride, only ran into three other riders on da trails!!!

    Moto's DoubleHeader!!!

Yesterday, I decided to do a double header ride!!! I started off at da Moon!!! Rode NW1 to What, NW2 and 1 out to Deacon. I decided to test my skills on the Deacon trail. I don't know what failed me first...my skills or the Small Block 8's on the wet rocks!!! From there, I just went out past maintenance and up the paved road to the car!!! Two miles!!!

Round 2 was to check out all the work Dirtrider6 has been doing down at Nesbit Park. Pretty cool trails!!! Once again, I was able to find the limits of the stock tires on the slimy, slippy mud!!! Still had a blast and logged in another 3.5 miles!!!

    Yes it was slippy...

...and SB8s are tough to ride in non dry conditions, not much meat for lean angle. Ardents!

    Or Terraflex!

    Doin' It Moto Style!!!

Yesterday, I felt the need to re-aquaint myself with an old friend. It was time to hit up da Moon on the single speed!!! It was not a long ride because I did not want to wear myself out too badly for work...especially since I was only running on about 4 1/2 hours of sleep. I started out on NW1 and the first thing I noticed was the absence of a suspension fork...LOL!!! Hit up What to NW2 and out to Deacon. From there, I rolled down past the maintenance building and it was there I noticed something different. I was able to climb all the way from the maint dept to the top of the paved road without stopping!!! That Giant is a great trainer!!! I completed my little(about 2 1/2 miles)loop with a quick run down to Big Blue, bailed out into the field and then Thorny and out!!! I noticed a big improvement on my riding since getting the Giant!!!

    Twelve Cubed!!!

Well, you didn't actually think I would let a historic day like 12-12-12 go by without a Moon ride, did you? Conditions were awesome with lots of free UV radiation courtesy of our sun!!! I thought the trails would be frozen and fast, but there was still plenty of slop to be found out there!!! I am working on my own calendar, so I will have a 13-13-13, 14-14-14, and so on!!!

Those gears are nice, but I am having problems getting them working properly!!! When I put some power into the pedals(i.e. slow uphills)the chain skips and I even had it change gears on me before!!! That would be cool...a mountain bike with an automatic transmission...LOL!!!

Found the Christmas tree nice job, even stopped to rehang a few ornaments that feel off. My friend and I made the 2 hour drive to get there on Sunday only to get caught in the rain there making the trails super slick I was trying a pair of X Kings 29x2.2 and they were horrible I think I might try Lee's suggestion on the Ardents.

Todd, if the weather isn't as dire as the current forecast, I'll likely be out at Moon on Friday "field testing" a bike rebuild ... I could give your bike some TLC before riding if you're also there.

Of course I'm not trying to fix a bike over the internet, but...

...from a long background of riding, when we had 5,6,7 and 8 speeds way less problems existed. Since 9 and 10 speed drive trains came out, more and more problems are caused by precise and closer tolerances between shifts. It has led to replacement of components at a higher rate.

One thing since I personally know you. You are a powerful rider with lots of torque behind your pedal strokes! You will wear stuff at a higher rate than a less powerful rider.

Since it's a faily new bike, and considereing your rear deraiuler is damaged, or bent. The cable housing isn't bent or damaged and well lubed...

...fixing tips, look at the shifter cable along the frame if it is exposed and not running in a full length cable housing, lightly try to pull it away from the frame, if it comes away from a half inch or more it has stretched and next try turning the barrel on the shift pod out 1 to 1.5 turns to take slack out of the shift cable as a first fix.

If that is not doing the trick, buy a chain checker and see how much stretch your chain has. A chain that has stretched will ride higher up on the teeth on the rear cogs and basically try to skip off the cogs.

If it is stretched you could try a new chain, and buy the next level up chain, don't look for light weight or racing type chains, but rather a middle of the road chain that will have better metal components, you know this from Motos, buy the cheapest chain and your adjusting all the time due to quicker wear.

Last resort is replace both chain and cog which usually is done at the same time anyway.

There are loads of helpful vids on the internet to assisit if you so desire to view these!

Good Luck! Ride da SSer(no shifting problems ever)...LOL

Sorry we missed you Sunday, Ron and myself left a little after 12 and it started to rain very shortly after that, nothing real heavy to spoil our ride, but enough to make it slick.
I had a Ardent on the front a few weeks ago it was great all year but I wiped out twice on rocks with it, next I put a Stout on good mud tire but even worse on the wet rocks, I then put a Negegal on the front for Sunday, man what a difference, it was great on the rocks and when it did slide it was a predictible slide.

The Panaracer Rampage has been doing well on the wet, the few times I had it out in those conditions. Seems to roll better than the Nevegal, but that doesn't make much sense to me as they are similar designs.

Must be the Japanese Pixie Dust in the Panaracer tires.

They are very similar patterns, The Negegals have a dual compound softer rubber than the Rampages, probably leading to the feeling of slower rolling, but I think they are much better in the wet having run them last year back to back the softer rubber was noticebly grippier (is that a word) in the wet.

Moto, I agree with DR6. Sounds like the typical cable stretching during the break-in period. Take it to Dave and I'm sure it's just a simple adjustment.

dirtrider6, I have 3 Nevegals just collecting dust. Sundays ride was a spur of the moment thought and a quick look @ the radar fill the tank and go. I will give someone a heads up in advance for my next trip plus I want to stop by Dave's shop and bring my full suspension bike instead of the hardtail Jamis's

    Snow Test Ride!!!

Well, today was just a little test run!!! Didn't have much time so Brandon and I headed out NW1, NW2, What, NW2 and back out to Deacon!!! Due to the time constraints we just headed down past Maintenance and back to the car!!! We had to test out my Christmas present from Brandon...he got me some Primo Super Tenderizer pedals!!!

    The Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!

It was time to go make some tracks in da snow today!!! Loaded up the Redline and pointed the Honda towards da Moon and started rowing through da gearbox!!! Got up to da Moon and started out on NW1...forgot how challenging and fun it is to ride in da white stuff!!! Continued struggling out NW2 to What....from there to Maint., down around the lake and up by the pool and out!!! Ended up doing more walking than I wanted to, but it was a great day to be out there breathing da fresh Moon air!!!

    New Year's Day Ride!!!

Since there was too much snow at da Moon, I was forced to assault the asphalt!!! So much nicer to cruise around town being able to shift, no offense to da Redline!!! I think I need to go see Dave and Chris over at Valley Cycles for a new saddle...that stock Giant saddle is like a piece of plywood with three tissues taped to it!!! A good ride...wanted to do more than 7 miles, but I did not want to wear myself out for work!!! Happy New Year!!!

    I am pleased to announce....

That the trails at da Moon are still there!!! Did a little snow ride today, about 2 1/2 miles since snow riding is not one of my strengths...but it was fun!!! NW1 to Ledgeview and the first section of 8 back out NW1 to the car!!! Even with the snow, the trails at da Moon are incredible...I just want to extend a heart-felt thanks to everyone that makes these trails so great!!!

    The Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!

Decided to hit up da Moon today to start off my week on a positive note!!! It was not a long ride since I didn't sleep very well last night...only 2.5 miles but I had a great time!!! The trails were frozen nicely, with a little mix of crunchy snow and some thin krispy krunchy ice!!! Hit up Big Blue, Twister, and Mo-Zee. At this point, I was already feeling pretty whooped so I bailed out up through the pool parking lot and hit some fun slipping and sliding on the ice at the entrance to the lot!!! Great beginning to da work week!!!

    Hello February!!!

I kicked off February with a chilly ride at da Moon!!! After bundling up a little I unloaded da Redline for my assault on da trails!!! I started pedaling out Nature's Way. Then I decided on a really fun trail...What you may ask!!! Exactly!!! From there it was NW2, service road, Ledgeview, and back down the first section of 8, and NW1 to da car!!!

    Snow Kidding!!!

Went up to da Moon today to put some fresh tracks in da snow!!! Fresh snow all the way out NW1, Service Road, 8 all the way up to T-Rex1, then the Service Road down to Eagle, Ledgeview, Service Road past Maintenance and out!!! Fun riding in the snow and I had the whole park to myself!!!

    Moonday Morning Ride!!!

I decided to kick of da work week with a ride at da Moon!!! Out NW, up da service road, to Ledgeview, the second section of 8, back down da service road, and ducked in on the first section of 8, service road and NW out!!! Trails were amazing with some ice, some hardpacked snow, and some bare spots. Fast, yet tricky conditions!!! I was bitten by a log over on 8...guess I should have pulled a little more...LOL!!! I am so looking forward to the upcoming riding season!!! See ya on da trails...Ride da Moon!!!

They are working very well! I have not had a problem with feet slipping and they are. pretty comfy with their slight concave shape...and they look pretty cool, too!!!

I remember when I use to ride bmx they were solid pedals, lots of people rode them. Probably will be the first thing I switch out on my bike. They do look good on yours

Best Way to Start da Week

No better way to start da work week than with a ride at da Moon!!! Started out on NW1, What, out to Deacon. I took a wrong turn and ended up connecting NW2 to NW1 via 5858. Finished up with Ledgeview, 8, Skinnys, and out the paved road. I wanted to do more, but didn't want to be like a limp noodle at work tonight!!! Just shy of 3.5 miles today!!!The Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!-monocog.jpgThe Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!-monocog2.jpgThe Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!-ride.jpgThe Continuing Adventures of Moto!!!-sun.jpg
