Chenango Valley State Park NY and AMA Vintage Dirt Track Nationals 6/30/12
Great hot day for 2 venues...
...not that far from each other. Mt Biking at Chenango Valley State Park located in New York was first. Rode in and around the "Tween Lakes" area since trails there are super flowy. Rode sections of the old race course and noticed a few new offerings, so I hit them. I didn't see any markings, but the one trail is a loop off the blue that was sweet tight single track, yet ripping around it was possible and very fun, had to turn around a do it backwards also... LOL! All in all almost 20 miles, went by fast and it was so cool in the woods, but time to head out as practice was starting...
...a few miles away the AMA Vintage Dirt Track Nationals and hanging with lots of friends would be really cool also. One of the highlights was National Champ and King of the Mile long tracks, Scotty Parker was on hand signing autographs and being a super guy! He took a few laps on a national champ vintage bike that he won on years ago. It was great to see him ride again, like watching rolling art!
Don (Donzilla) Miler of "Metro Racing" fame had me in stiches as we hung out trading stories. He had the shadiest spot in the pits and lots of visitors, good thing as it was a scorcher. Old friend Steve Bromley(Bromley Cycles) was entered in 3 classes, quite a feat to pull off at a National. Racing was close in a lot of classes with the series winding down every racer wanted to get their National Championship hopes sewn up!
Got way to carried away with taking pics, way too much eye candy to look at, they will be rolling in for a while...

Round 2 CVSP a few months later...
...this time, more riders, more fun!
I had the opportunity to throw together a ride at Chenango again with a more friends, joining myself and justinkoolaid were riders from Cycle-Cny We arrived early and hit up Cabin and Phone Booth trails first.
Then met the NY crew around 11AM. First up was a new section I hadn't seen, in around Chipmunk Bluff Campground, a great selection of trails under stands of pines, that had us weaving left and right, with cool ups and downs and even a 360 degree circle climb section!
We got a great ride in so far, when Jeff suggested we hit up some of his favorite trails, Cabin and Phone Booth trails which Justin and I rode earlier that morning, but now we had a great opportunity to have a CVSP local show us around, so off we went, more twisty, rocky stuff and the rain overnight made them slippy also! Jeff showed us the "Rock Garden" and had all the lines and cool ways to run these trails.
I'm not sure at what point it was but Brenda showed us her freestyle technique, quite the daredevil she is... LOL
We ended up at Cabin Colony and headed in a different direction towards the Puk trail taking a fast double track road, showing us a completely different ride. Many options exist, and after a few climbs and view of the Chenango River, we directed our wheels towards River Road Towpath a fast flowy trail for a few miles and finally back at the cars!
Getting a great ride and tour of CVSP. I wish they still had the race here at CVSP as I really enjoyed racing here years back.
Thanks to Brenda and friends for coming out to show us around this great park. Lots of laughs and friendly conversation made for a super time at CVSP. We have to do more of this!
From there it was off to dinner and delicious Pizza dipped in hot sauce at * Pizza Restaurants - Endicott, NY - Nirchi's Pizza followed by racing at Square Deal Riders - Home with the Aarron Creamer Memorial Race, and The Scooters for Hooters race to benefit Tracy's Hope.
Great friends, great racing! The nights highlights started off with a Mini class little guy on his Cobra motorcycle hitting a fast lap of "42MPH"(it's a freek'in 50cc motorcyce they aren't supposed to go that fast!)...LOL Open Pro class racers within inches of each other flying around lap after lap had the excitment meter pegged, and Don(Donzilla)Miller from http://metroracing.com made the night donning all pink womens clothing and racing his scooter to raise money. Great guy that will go all out to make an event special for all...
..thanks Don & Peg
Here's the updates:
