It'd be tough for me to make it there by 4 (if I'm on time I get off work at 3:30pm), maybe 5 would be more realistic, I've never been to that trailhead so I'd need some good specific guidance, but I'm game to come out and lend a back.

I'd also understand if that's just not early enough, don't know what you have in mind. Just shoot me a PM if you want.

I could definitely make it for 5.

One game plan would be to do this as the shuttle ride w/ some time allotted for work just using hand saws..

Another would be to just go specifically to work and take power equipment and just hike in/hike out from Brown St.

I would lean towards the former because that way we'd still be getting a ride in, and if we don't get done we could just do the same thing again another time. Plus, the people who come out to help would be able to see the entire route. We'd just need to figure out the shuttle situation which isn't that big of a deal.

    Any other ideas?

i'm game for either. My folding saw is already in my camelbak.

If we end up doing the shuttle my car can take 5 bikes and riders (so long as the three in the back seat are friendly), one of the bikes has to have a standard-QR front wheel though.

If you mean to get a ride up to the top, you can just throw your bike in my van. No wheel removal necessary.

Cool! I'm hoping the weather will cooperate. At least it should be somewhat warm. See you there!

Now that I think about it. I have all sorts of junk like a bike trailer, racks, and things to make carrying things on a bike easier. It sounds like the plan is to go pretty light, but I can drag around anything if it's needed. Carrying junk doesn't really bother me. If you want a cooler full of ice and cold drinks, I might have to draw the line there.

We rode from Brown St over the weekend. There won't be much of a need for saws aside from that little DH section (the 1st one that ends up at the fire road that leads to upper earth); there's that one spot where the big tree fell. Upper Earth/Xtreme/Dead Deer all need to be raked out but that's about it. We cleared whatever larger trees/sticks were down. I'm gonna try to make it tomorrow but not sure if I can yet.

    One Called.
    Six Responded.
    One Bailed.
    Four Launched.
    Two Returned.
    Six Grins.

Lots of little crap cleared, some bigger crap.

One saw was bent and straightened a few times.

Mike wielded the Rake of Mass Destruction.

2500 feet of descending for 500 feet of climbing, couple miles of trail tuned.

    More work to be done.

    :P

Is the climb to DH ratio really 500:2500? Anyone have any GPS maps of Mtn Top?

I have a GPS map of what we went down yesterday. According to the baro-altimeter in my Garmin Edge and the TopoFusion software that's the deal.

I need to hit Dead Deer Ex to see that (we didn't last night) but I'm thinking that the whole combination would be a great venue for an Unofficial Unsanctioned Completely Never Happend Super-D event ... after a few more things were cleaned up though.

Always thought there was more climbing than what your GPS 's show but believe what you have come up with......really great ride.....grinning ear to ear all the way down RollerCoaster Say Wut?! A few more hours of a similar size crew should finish Killer Bee and the entry ways to it......Mike K(not to be confused with Mike K from Linkin Park)and Crew really did a nice job on re routing the Hell TRail as well as the improvement to the last 1/3 of RCSW?....Thanks. Ride on!

Do you guys park in Bentley's? Just to warn you, we got kicked out of the dirt parking lot last year. We've been parking on 309 ever since but I'm wondering if its safe to park in Bentley's again?

We did in fact do that Finius, but I wouldn't be surprised to get kicked out at some point.

Maybe we should make a point of going in and having some ice-t, so we're "customers" - post-ride?

We're doing this again this Thursday 4/22 if anyone's interested!!! Lots of sawing still needs to be done (not sure where you're riding, Finius, but where we ride we need saws) but with a decent crew we can knock it out in one day. Meet at Brown St. trailhead at 5

Yep. That's the only spot left that needs extreme attention. Anything beyond that I can work on myself. I gotta say I'm very disappointed about the Bentley's situation. What we need is a good spokesperson.

One guy from Bentley's was cool with us parking there last year, he told us to use the lower dirt lot. We stopped in for a drink after a couple rides, then one morning some guy (might have been the owner) almost got violent with us for being parked in the lower dirt lot when there were only 3 other cars in the whole parking lot. I don't think you're going to reason with him.

Not sure when, but I know spring gobbler starts soon. Don't interfere with hunting. So far, the game commission hasn't been bothering bikers.

Spring turkey season (gobbler refers to to the fact that you can only take bearded males)

Saturday April 24th is 1 day youth season
    Regular season - May 1-31

You can only hunt gobbler until noon, HOWEVER Mountain biking is prohibited in all PA Game Lands at all times of day for the month of May, except Sundays.

Yes they have. Our group was bothered up there last year. No fines or anything - but a hunter apparently complained and we were told about it. It would be best to stick to Sundays for the month of May although evenings should be o.k.

As for the parking situation, I wonder where people are going to park when they eventually open up the Ashley Planes as an official hiking/biking trail. It's in the works as far as I know. At worst, we park on the other side of the I-81 tunnel in Ashley which equals even more downhill. I wouldn't be comfortable parking on 309. As for this Thursday, I'm still going to park in lower dirt Bentley's lot and hope for the best.

Also, I don't think I mentioned it but Dead Deer has a new entrance about 10-15 feet to the right of the old one. They are purposely spreading out the carcasses to block off the old entrance.

Planning to only ride Sundays for awhile, don't want to risk causing issues with the hunters on the GameLands....we have it pretty good up our way.....although certainly will ride after 5pm any of the days as the activity is long over by that point.

Thanks to the few who came out today - especially Brian for hauling out his chainsaw to take care of the big stuff.

Killer Bee is now open with an extension that leads right to the new entrance of Hell Trail, although it still needs some massaging and use to get up to the caliber of the other trails in the network.

    Thanks again, guys!

Killer Bee is open and has a major re route...that needs riding in.....i'd like to get down there again with a trimmer to finish it up properly....Pretty cool seeing Brian riding out with the chain saw on his back! RollerCoasterSayWut?! keeps getting better and better as it is broken in.....
