    Smile 2012 HCGA/NEPMTBA MTB/MOTO X-Mas Party/Ride Saturday 12/15/12

Let me be first to say "Merry Chrismas and Happy New Year to all"

Our 2012 Christmas Party/Ride held at HCGA...
...will once again be on Trail December 15th Saturday

Scott & Jimmy's big celebration happening again under the pavilion, beginning at 12 Noon, and on to the wee hours of the night.

It's MTB and MOTO, so it's a Bring what ya Run

MTB ride starts at 12:30 with festivities right after

    Highlights:

Of course first up "Ride da Rocks" where we not only hit the famous trails with challenge sections, and the Woody as well as our newest Skinny Lounge, but also we unveil another new trail now on Dirt: "T P Crapper" a kinder, more gentler trail that has of plenty of "Flow" The famous Huge Bonfire, and Ghetto Barrel heaters will be at full stoke too keeping Holiday Spirts warm...

...speaking of Spirts, bring your Favorite Beverage and a Pot Luck dish to share as there is "No Charge" for this happening fun time!

Plenty of level parking, 4 legged friends welcome, skating on the pond if we have suitable ice or really cold swimming if you choose!

Looks like the Horseshoe pits are fired up, and I'm sure Jimmy & Scott will add more details...

Please post up here if your attending

I'm in, assuming the weather is half decent. I don't have great winter riding gear.

As far as bringing food... There's going to be fine, so I'm guessing I can bring something in a foil pan to reheat? Would that work? If so, I'll bring some meat that I grill or smoke.

Rode today with Ed and Lee, both up and down the new T.P. Crapper and it worked great in both directions. A little grinding in and it should be all set. It flows nice now and should be sweet as it berms up in the corners more.

The only trails left to clear are the big back hill and Dozer. We went up Dozer today and cleared the downed trees. A bit of leaf blowing and both will be set for the winter. I'll do both tomorrown night with the head light on. I think, I'll leave the dogs home because those two in the dark will be up to no good and I'm sure they'll find a porcupine or skunk to play with.

I rode the new "X" over, on Kirby after the ride. Cleaned it down and worked on figuring it out going up. I got close and it was sweet. Lee also worked on opening up an old line by Kirby. It will add to the loop around and play with all the lines. We also walked a new line that will add to the fun once it is worked out.

It's hard to beat a ride in December wearing shorts and short sleeves. A few on dirt bikes, a few on quads and a few on mt bikes, yea, that's hard to take. Is it too much to ask for another winter like last year?

    Good job!

Great day to Ride da Rocks...
    ...beautiful warm day!

Just a few highlights of today:

HCGA's Fat Dog Trail gets a Christmas tree Woo Hoo!

Loving the new T P Crapper trail way too much, like cr500 said flow is starting to grove in. The loop we ran starting with climbing T P, Dirt Rag, Dozer, West Virginia, Mono Rock, Angle Straight Angle, 8 Mile Rocks, down Hell Froze Over, Terminus, High Noon, Itchy Tire down T P ...end. Made for a few hours of everything HCGA has to throw at ya!

Thanks to Ray for the work gathering his donation of wood for the Christmas Party/Ride

cr500, Nice smooth ride on the new Kirby evevated Woody! Thanks to all who helped make that so.

Yes I'm working on reopening one of the orginal test trails we had before Kirby existed, but now it will be add forming yet another line on the Rock Festival we call "Kirby" I must have Rockitius, can't stay away from those Big Shiny Rocks.

On another note, a great big buck was taken by Brian's Uncle from Texas on the HCGA property, ready for this a 13 pointer! NIce Harvest, I guess the deer like hanging around the MTB's and Motos!

With all the lower stuff now done and the logging roads opened up more you can have lots of fun and never go on the killer techy trails.

You can run from the Marty's lower parking lot, on logging roads to a section of the Dirt Rag trail, get a sample on that in one of it's flatter areas and hook back into the logging road and come down Fat Dog! Of the climbing there is it is wide and open.

I'll show ya around at the party. Bring Lisa and the family too.

This should be a pretty Green route.

The log landing to the toilet, then go up to VW Rock area via logging road, go left where we were thinking of running the race on the road to allow passing, take that to the top of the well house hill, roll back to the green trail x over through the nice pines back to the well house, then down the back Dirt Rag by the well house to the Dirt Rag/Itchy Tire junction, left down Itchy Tire to High Noon backwards, followed by Fat Dog down then the Board Walk to the Pond Trail. That should give a pretty gentile climb to the top except for one or two punchy areas and a bunch of rolling riding with a way long downhill. Thatís all downhill from the play rock skinny area on High Noon to the pond.

    Good job!

^ that route has me drooling...

...it's a true hybrid of tech and log roads, and like you said "LONG" downhill flow

I'll GPS that one! I can almost hear da Rocks a Rattl'in now! High Noon in reverse is a keeper, so I guess this means I gotta finish the end of the log skinny on High Noon so we can ride it backwards!

Mr Noon would never use a hand pump but I do know he has a compressor at the shop which just means he will have to run a long hose!

That log skinny could use a finish. Mr. Noon would not use the compressor himself... I can hear it now... Bubba, get that hill pumped back up and get the rocks too...

We nees Jason to bring his nail gun next week too and then we can get that ramp on the rock at the bottom of High Noon too

Looks like we will slip in under the weather and have a nice day. If it is as nice as today it will be perfect. The fire is built in the fire pit, the barrels are cleaned out, have more air holes and are loaded and ready to light. There is a bunch of wood split for the barrels and a few quick quad trips from the pile will have the barrels supplied.

Ed Roman will be there to get the friers started. Jimmy has two turkeys and Dave has another. I'll make fresh cranberry sauce tonight.

All the trails are clear so it should be a nice day. Re-heating will. Be limited so crock pots will help keep anything warm.

    We you tomorrow

    Good job!

    OK fellow MTbers...

..up front thanks for all you do, have done, and continue to do, to make it fun for all who ride! 2012 was(is) a fantastic year even if the world ends in a few days we all made the best of it!!!!!!

We have been blessed by good weather. Rides? Well relaxed pace and most of you know your way around, so we can decide in the day who, what, where... KIRBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just kidding, will be supreme riding! We can hit up a few relaxed logger road rides, or some shorter rides and return back to camp. You choice! Wad eva ya wanna do!

Yes, the 50 has a super paint job, would make a great pizza delivery vehicle. Speaking of pizzas, I've got the pizzas and water loaded in the car as well as some contributions to the campfire!

Hope all the doggys are ready I'm sure it won't take much to fire them up, and hope ya enjoy the new mellower stuff we have built!

So, see yas in the AM for a little more R&R = "Riding & Rocks"

Thanks again for another great ride and party afterwards. Can't beleive the year went by so fast. Thanks for all the rides we had throughout the year. Scott, Jimmy, Ed for your hospitality, Lee for all the trail building/maintenance....always a great time riding up the land. Jimmy said it perfect and I have to agree, everytime you leave the Rocks at Hunlocks, you leave with a smile on your face. Can't wait for the next big ride there...Happy Holidays

    Good job!

Another Christmas party/ride in the books!

It grows every year, and this year was no exception. More riders, landowners, and others who share in the fun of the day. This year we had 4 or 5 different ride groups going out.

Lots of heat was provided by 2 barrel heaters and one fireplace that were well stocked by Jimmy and Scott the day before, chopping and splitting lots of wood. All I had to do morning of, was add a match Thanks guys! As riders arrived all began to happen and the heat of the day was upon us the fires died down and the rides heated up!

Trail conditions were a mix of dry to icy depending on where the sun didn't shine, so line selection was critical in places. Fat Bikes were in style with 4 showing up today!

The new trail T P Crapper was ridden in by all with praise, especially by barking Kirby(the dog) & Barney singing out their song all ride long. Our gang of doggies grows also. Around 15 of our 4 pawed friends were out on the trails and ripping it up almost as if they knew this was a Christmas celebration!

Making our way up, Itchy Tire beyond to High Noon's "Rattle Rocks" lived up to thier name! Up more to West Virginia, Mono Rock, Angle Straight Angle and beyond to 8 Mile on Dirt Rag lots of fun was had by all. Scott gave everyone a tour of the Newest Moto bridge we built as well as using round trip on the Green Quad Trail added in to our MTB ride just for fun!

Sections were ridden clean and many people added to their personal ride list of things they wanted to ride clean, two highlights were Scott getting the "Squeeze Tree" on Terminus and yelling my name out Leeeeeeeeee to let me know he finally got it clean. Joan made the Big Teeter-Totter after 2 tries as well as some new riders enjoying and making stuff for the first time! Nice rides everyone!

At the end of our ride knowing Scott had a date with Kirby "XXX" trail, I followed him down for a challenge, only to find a whole bunch of riders thinking the same thing as we arrived. Lots of terriffic moves and clean riders were viewed, cameras were out everywhere!

We would love to hear how the other rides went also!

Bill our "New Guy" battled hard and never complained finishing with "Red Sox" that were once white, he gets the tough guy award.

Jimmy who did the MTB ride, also hopped on his Moto and did a lap, on the tough Hunlocks moto course, just in case you wonder it takes 40 to 50 minutes to do a lap at Hunlock's on a Moto! This course lives up to it's name "Ride da Rocks"

The cooking of 3 turkeys, 2 deep fried, and one smoked, gravy, stuffing along with chickens, 5 lemon pies, pumpkin pies, pizza, veggies & dips, chips & many salsa, sausages, was a huge eating feast.

Into the night, continuing with restoking of the heater barrels and Jimmy lighting the giant bonfire with a(woooooof) conversing about the days ride as well as years past jokes were told and everyone relaxed, with fequent trips back to the pavilion for more goodies!

My very personal thanks to Scott, Ed B, and their families, Jimmy, also to Ed Roman(land owner) for showing up with his deep fryer, Brain(land owner) as well as "all" the owners, neighbor Mike, Shoe, and all the RIDERS! Thanks to anyone I missed too! Topcat for the pics!

To those who didn't make it, we wished you did, as well as Canadian Chuck, Hope ya feel better!!!!!!!!!

Their was so much to talk about I'll prolly reserve a thread to add later...LOL

This honestly made my month. HUGE thanks to Scott, Lee for posting on Facebook and not messaging me back, Darryl for showing up on time (kinda), the fire barrel for removing those pesky hairs from the front of my legs and anyone who brought food. Really great to see everyone again, hopefully I can find the time to come around more often in the future.

Here are some of the pics I took this past weekend. It sounds like everyone
had a nice day and that is what we try to put together. I have a special
thanks for Ed Roman, another of the owners that came out and cooked all the
turkeys. He doesn't ride Mountain bikes but he is always around when someone
needs a bit of help. Ya gotta like a guy like Bill that cames out bleeds
into his socks but keeps riding and has a smile all the way to the end.
I could think of a lot worse ways to spenjs a fantastic Dec 15th for sure.

I'm sure if the weather holds we ride a bunch more before the outdoor season closes.

You will only fall 8 or 10 feet and there are plenty of trees to grab on the way down. Baby...
