    you know that moment when...

You find you Zen while riding a trail. You and ur bike finally become one and you dont think about your technique. By the time uve thought about what u need to do ur already past that section onto the next and the whole world has disappeared.

I finally, into my third season mtbing, had that moment today. On a trailset I've only been to now 3 times as I had deemed it far above my fitness level.

Oddly this comes after shorting out shorter stem/wider bars. New, better tires (karmas previous now bonty xr2 2.2 f and xr1 2.0 r tubeless setup) and finally found a hydration pack that I can get flow from and comfortable to wear. Allowed me to fully relax and ride.

And ride I did, much of it is a blur but was so happy and relaxed when I got back to trailhead I think my eyes welled up a tad.

I finally experienced the best part of mtbing!!!

Oh forgot to add, that is after I sprained my ankle a bit (rolled it) riding in the parking lot testing tire pressures on the new tires, tried to go from grass to step up on pavement while leaned hard turning, put my foot down right on the edge and snap, crackle, pop. Walked it off went on my ride but hurts like a ***** now.

Nice. Definitely know that feeling. Gets referred to a lot as "flow" in riding. Feels a lot like what people call "stoke" in surfing. Same idea.

The best treatment for Twisted ankles is to apply ice and elevate it above heart for 3 days.

That is when your confidence level is in-line with your fitness; you crash way less, pedal more efficiently with less effort and take more calculated risks. The end result is you make much more effort to stay upright on the bike, instead of dismounting or forcing a crash. Obstacles are no longer daunting, but suddenly become a challenge you seek. You are not failing the physics lesson anymore.....you are actually using it to your advantage. You understand the meaning of conserving energy- so that you can just finish the ride and not worry about doing it fast.

Welcome the the world of being an Intermediate MTB rider....the best is yet to come!

Thnx, Ya im starting to understand how ppl I ride with can just zip around like they do. So many factors play so much of a part you dont even realize it till what seems like suddenly everything falls into place and everything just feels right.
