    winter...

    so far.
    so good.

Mike graciously set me up with a snow pony.
Her name is Ninja Pony. Welcome to the stable, Ninja Pony. We're going to riot.

I'm learning to ride the Ninja Pony in all sorts of places and conditions. Soft snow. Hard packed snow. Sugar snow. New snow. Old snow. Night snow. Day snow. -15 degrees snow. +40 degrees snow.

Disco snow. Trail snow. Snowmobile snow. Road snow.

Fast snow. Slow snow. Bouncy snow. Smoove snow.

All of the snow has been white.

And all of the Snow explorations have been with an open heart, an open mind, and an open spirit.

It's been lovely to experience snow again, not from a full day of heavy-hitting tele turns, but from long and short days -- both near and far -- with the Snow Pony and my beautiful guide.

It feels like winter is new again. New again in a way that has me revisiting the things I find familiar -- and as if they've been 'long-lost' -- with a refreshing new fire. A fire that does not melt snow -- but celebrates it.

Thank you ... for the fire, the pony, the openness, the patience, the motivation, for the chance to see the infinite diamond sparkles in snow as well as the sky and stars, for the reintroduction to a world I've been missing without even knowing it.

More winter to come -- when I get back from another Snow Pony adventure!

    Jj

Ah-yeah... Grey snow. Siiigggghhhh. That too.
Looks like you have some ice under that grey snow! That ought to keep it all interesting
Is that the ocean? Or just a big lake?

Yes, ice indeed! Second largest freshwater lake in the world with thousand foot long ships sailing on her. it's Lake Huron and I've lived along its shore pretty well my entire life. I love the Lake.

A repeat pic from just outside my door.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but, despite it originally being built as a single speed it is sporting an Alfine 8 (internally geared hub) in the pics.

The bike was fun as a SS when the trails were normal but once the sand got soft and/or the snow got deep there just wasn't any fun in rolling it SS. Conditions change too much in winter riding and it was a HELL of a lot of work. I quickly swapped stuff around and it now has gears.

    Much better for this

Hey tinkerbell, we were happy to get a little dusting on our FIFO ride at NTM of Friday morning. Looks like we need to head up a little farther to 3 Sisies

Keep an eye out for our tracks!
