I woke up to blue skies out my window, but the wind was howling. I'm not going to pay it any attention and maybe it will go away. Saddled up the truck and met the others for a carpool to down the highway. All the time, I kept noticing cars covered in snow heading east. Last night brought something, but was it in the valley?
There was quite a bit of wind blown snow and temperatures dropped as we reached the high point, but our starting point of Pine Valley Open Space was clear. That is, except for the wind. None-the-less, jackets on, we headed for the Buck Gulch climb with dreams of fast flowing singletrack in Buffalo Creek.
I guess we wanted a little more suffering, since we chose to start here instead of BC. It's always a wake you up kind of climb. Maybe even a little more so, with a cold numming wind.
It seemed that my attempt of ignoring the wind, had little effect on it. Fine, I'll just carry on.
It was probably good to get this climb in, with the big "super secret" mtb destination vacation coming up next week. Might as well try for that last push to get into shape.
It was a pretty day.
Conditions in Buffalo Creek were stellar! While we didn't get to do some of the more inner trails, Charlies Cutoff was in super tacky form and the ripping ride back down Strawberry Jack was Interesting, even with the wind. For some reason this trail changes every time I ride it. Keeps you on your toes.
