This is why we live in AZ

While a majority of you are hunkering down in the cold and snow, a few of my friends and I went out for a scenic ride today on the Hawes trails northeast of Mesa. It was a perfect day for riding - sunny and 70 degrees with a very mild breeze (typical December day).

This is the reason so many people move here -- glorious winter weather + scenery. Of course, many wonder why the hell they are still here when it's 110 in August (including myself).

Pic 1 - Twisted Sister (heading back) - such sweet AZ singletrack
Pic 2 - Another shot of Twisted Sister. Oh so much fun.

Unfortunately the exposure on both of these photos sucks. That's what you get when you don't know how to operate your equipment!

    Thx...Doug

Nice shots reminded me of my ride on Twisted Sister last year. I was all by myself with a crude idea of where I was. Thios part of the trail was especially sweet with an undulating rythm on smooth single track. It was a great contrast to the ride the day before at the National. You are right on about Phoenix being perfect in the winter. Let the masses learn the hard way about the summers. I am from Cardiff in CALIFORNICA. San Diego County is being bulldozed into oblivion. The only way to get a decent ride is by driving to get there. Slow down the growth because it won't be long before you guys are out of land or out of WATER. You are surrounded by available places to ride that are of good quality. Even the Preserve in the middle of the city is of higher quality then the vanilla flavored geriatric stuff at our disposal. Thanks

    Lies!

You're not fooling anyone, we all know those photos are from the Summer.

I moved to AZ for graduate school, but being able to ride in a short-sleeve shirt and shorts on December 10th,(which is what I did for my study break today) is a really nice perk.

    Nice-looking trails by the way.

Hey, what happened to all the grass??

Hawes/Twisted Sister is a great ride. It looked a little different last January when I was there.

    Just wondering

How's that area for stickers and flats? I rode over by Quartzsite and found 8 different cactus spines/stickers in my tires. I was running Stans at the time,so no flats, but I don't believe I would have got far if I'd been on a regular tire system.
I may not be as good as I once was.
But I'm as good once, as I ever was.

Naw, not enough green. I'm going to Maui for my CE this January. Thanks again for showing me around while I was there. I'll be back sometime though. The trails a too good (and the winters too long here) not to.

What are you gonna do with your life?!

    I wanna Rock!!!

Really great looking trails out there. But what are those strange garments you are wearing? I swear that I can see you legs sticking out from them.

    Thanks for the hit.

I was out there on the same trails last weekend. I have ridden the Hawes/red mountain area a million times and I'm still amazed at how great it is to ride every time. Last weekend after riding I did a little fishing at the Salt River (Phon de Sutton)to finish out the day. Doesn't get much better than that.

    Ride/Ski?

Yeah Doug, gotta agree with the Colorado dude... as my sister Clare (Denver resident) put it too me bluntly from my -
"In Arizona, we've got awesome riding all winter"
    comment... with-
"Why would you want to ride... it's ski season?"

we still don't have to shovel things out.
