The following is an interview with mountain pro mountain bike racer, team leader, skills teacher, and Ninja ... Richard La China.

MBD: Did you grow up in the San Diego area?

Richard: No, I'm a transplant. I was born in Connecticut and then moved to North Carolina around the beginning of high school. I always knew I wanted to move out west after graduation, but had no idea exactly where.

Then, in 1995 I saw a commercial for the San Diego Zoo, and I made up my mind to move here. It wasn't the necessarily the prospect of being in a city with a world-class zoo that got me as much as it was it was the beautiful clips of Balboa Park, Mission Bay, and the beach area.
