Were you new to the sport of mountain biking when you joined MTBR 10 years ago or just new to MTBR?

About the same time I joined. The group was very tight and I didn't get accepted for years. Can't remember how many times Pete flamed me.

I date back from before the Big Bang when they reset. All the stuff I said from back then was lost. It was brilliant. What a shame.

    Me too.

I love how people would post as someone else but the "IP Police" would often nail the culprit. HAHAHA

Small group back then but the board was way fun.

Yeah......that "Join Date" is bogus for many of us. There are still some of us here who were posting in the 90's when it was all very new. That date thing happened much later and I faintly remember one week having a "2003" join date and then it switched to "2004" very quickly if you didn't register in time or whatever. I forget.

Meh............whatever. I poke my head in now and again but don't really post too much any more. I still think it's a great site. Loads of cool stuff to read.

I certainly wasn't one of the originals, but I do remember the first thing I read on here was a Reed and Woody post from stories.

Well...............once upon a time, there was this thread which called for handle history and in that thread............hahaha j/k

I am a huge music nerd (music of many types) but a very long time ago, it occurred to me that my initials (S.K.A.) spelled out the work ska (music that I too enjoy immensely) so I used it as a handle here all those years ago. Originally however I used "Ska!" as my handle but recently MTBR forced me to drop the '!' and it actually bummed me out (I posted about that I think at the time. LOL I was disappointed! LOL). That was my handle for so long I had grown accustomed to it. I've used that handle on one or two other forums as well but it is, for the most part, unusable nowadays as it is too short or often has already been registered.

Anyway, it's my initials and I dig the music :-)

I think I started posting on mtbr in about 2000 or 2001, long enough ago to remember the old format. My username originally was "SWISS" but I changed it at some point. And I remember that "explain your user name" thread. I remember getting chewed out by sslos about my then-passion for PBR. I used to post quite a bit in the Idaho forum, but since the advent of Facebook, it's been easier to get local knowledge and discuss local issues there. I still visit the product topic pages quite a bit for product info and it's always fun to see other people's bike builds in the manufacturers' sections.

End of 03/beginning of 04 was when a big forum update occurred.

nwbikur, Pete was quite the character from the mtbr days mostly prior to the forum update. He stirred the pot...with a blender. Shortly after the changeover, the mods decided to crack down on that behavior, and he got a permaban. He creates sock puppet accounts from time to time to stir up trouble, and he gets discovered quickly and re-banned. I noticed when he tried trolling me here that he also posted over on the (I think) NorCal forum some pretty disparaging remarks to Berkely Mike. That was probably what got him deleted again this time.

I think I have reviews still written from late 2000 on MTBR, but it took several years and high speed internet before I could really enjoy the pictures and banter found in the forums.

I've been doing more lurking than posting in the last few years as well. Been on the board since 99, I think. Yeah, waaay before the big switch. I remember all the commotion that caused. We lost a lot great people with the switch. But the spirit lives on... so can't complain too much.

Main reason I typed it was to see if anyone would remember.

I found MTBR in '98 or so? It was about the same time when "Deadly Tedly" hung out with some internet axe murderers and then wrote about it...

Lots? Well, it's still basically a shill-site that pimps shamelessly for any/all of its paying sponsors......but if anything has changed, its the total acceptance of the members, posters and lurkers, of that degree of ethical largesse. Myself included, I must admit. It all just seems ....normal, now.

Also I must admit that I don't really pay too much attention to the 'consumer' reviews, nor to the 'chili' ratings, since so many of the reviews are posted up by the vendors of the products reviewed, under sock-puppets and such, but the forums also contain a good deal of blatant product-placement promos.(PPP's).

What I really love and respect about eMpTyBeeR is the dedication to wholesome morals that the site insists on. No dirty words! The trails at mtbr are safe to roll on, day or night.

    MTBR Abides!
