Sometimes you just have to get away....

Even if its only 18 miles from home...

Even if its gonna be 20 degrees when you wake up...

Even if its 4k of climbing in 12 miles...

Even if you loaned your stove and some of your other gear...

Even if its only for 24 hours...

Looks like a cool trip, no pun intended. I'm just not sure about the technique of burning your socks and gloves for heat.

It's the "gotta gettaway" impulse, actually pretty common. Nice ride!

Good stuff Dave. Some day... some day, I want to do an over-nighter. Even just one, just to do it.

    Good job!

thanks for taking us away with you, even if just for a few minutes.
The sting of cold on your fingertips,
Clean, pure air so crisply cold it hurts a little to breathe,
then the sun finally hits your campsite.....
    Ahhhhhhh

I wish. Unfortunately I have a 60 mile round trip commute and although Texans themselves are nice, the roads are not always friendly to bikers. But hey you never know maybe things could change.

In that case, I'd recommend just running out of your office periodically to scream. Or screaming in the car. Just a nice relaxing primal scream.
Ditto on the Texas drivers issue. I bike commute in Austin on some great routes.
However, I still have some fears:
School buses -- school bus drivers are the honey badgers of the bus world.
Open trailers--the wheels stick out wider than the car. Always have great hopes that the driver remembers that when passing.
Moms on phones driving the kids to school. They are the honey badgers of the minivan/SUV world.
But anyway, I hope your commute possibilities improve some time in the future. In the meantime, revisit this thread often (or any STS thread) and apply the wonderful photos as needed.

How AWESOME is that? I work in Austin as well but I live in the Georgetown area. Yes please be careful riding around here. Its even scary being in a car sometimes. I am a newbie to Biking but love the outdoors. I might have to pick your brain for some good riding spots in CTX.
