Some may remember me some may not... this mtbr community came to my aid when I was going through a very difficult time in my life both mentally and physically. Kmax put together a raffle for a Santa Cruz Blur LT carbon frame to help me. That was in the summer of 2011 and over $10,000 was raised! The people here who make mtbr work made that raffle so successful along with members from MBoSC. Again, I'll be forever grateful....

I feel bad because I just disappeared from mtbr after I moved to Groveland, CA. There were reasons for that and they are personal. I had to "get away" from a lot of stuff for my mental health, I don't mind admitting that... I'm human. I'm still dealing with a lot of medical issues, mostly related to type 1 brittle diabetes but I'm not knocked down. I continue to stay positive about all of this and there is good reason for that. Just imagine living in a little village in Africa with no running water, no relable food source, no money of any kind, no bathrooms, etc... Then some crazed lunatic with guns and an army comes to take over the village you live in. That is real and it happens unfortunately so it makes what I'm going through a cake walk. I'll continue to be DwightStrong.

Enough of that... As time past I've been thinking of some way to say "thank you" in a big way to this mtn bike community who came to my aid... I've been busy with a project I've dreamed about doing, turning Groveland into a Mountain Biking Destination. Groveland is about 20 miles from Yosemite and an insane amount of traffic drives through Groveland each year. The US Forest Service, Groveland Ranger District's Recreation Specialist heard about this crazy plan and requested a meeting with me. This was in May 2012 and I became their first Mountain Biking Volunteer and now there are others. I met 5 mountain bikers just as crazy as me about building trails here and we formed the Groveland Trail Heads. I was voted to be the Chairman or President and I am honored. We have an incredible team, 2 work for the Forest Service's Fire Dept, this helps so much.

We have a project we're waiting to start... designing and building an organized trail system with trails for all level of riders. And we have 500 acres in the Stanislaus National Forest to play with! Our club is working with IMBA to become a Chapter and we have the US Forest Service, Groveland Ranger District on our side. It's an incredible opportunity for the Groveland community and the youth that live here. Plus the area is less than 4 miles from where I live This project will take time obviously but it has started. Our Groveland Ranger District consultant has said we could be breaking ground this Winter but more likely Spring 2014. I've been spending a lot of time walking the area, flagging boundaries and getting poison oak! If you know me well you know how I love getting an "oakgasm"

I feel this is a good way to give back to so many who helped by participating in the raffle Kmax created... build mountain bike trails for you all! As d-bug said when I told him about this-"Thanks for building trails for me to ride!" I got a laugh out of that...
