Raffle for Dwight: Win a Santa Cruz Carbon Blur LTc Frame!

    <table style="width:auto;"><tbody><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">
    </td></tr></tbody></table>
Help out a diabetic mountain biker and enter to win a carbon Blur LTc! What’s not to like about that?!?! For $5 a ticket (or 5 tickets for $20!), you will be entered into the drawing to win a 2011 Santa Cruz Carbon Blur LTc frame.

    ENTER TO WIN NOW!

    Visit the blog:
    http://rafflefordwight.wordpress.com/

    WHO IS DWIGHT FOLLIEN?
Dwight Follien (SCHeckler here on MTBR) is a Santa Cruz, CA resident, good friend of many, active mountain biker and a Type One Brittle Diabetic for 42 years and counting. In 2009, Dwight became unemployed and lost all medical benefits. Due to increasing health complications from his unstable diabetes, Dwight is experiencing severe physical limitations that make it impossible for him to be employable. His family and friends have rallied around him to provide much needed financial assistance to help him with ongoing medical costs as well as daily living expenses due to the ‘loop holes’ he falls into in the Government’s healthcare and financial assistance programs (for more info on this visit his blog page). He needs an affordable and stable living situation that allows him time to get the proper medical assistance he requires to become employable again. This fundraising effort is a way of doing just that and he has a plan.

    WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
100% of the donations are going directly to assist in Dwight’s much-needed medical and housing needs. The proceeds of this raffle represent the turbo boost that will place Dwight in a stable, healthy environment for long-term improvement. Your involvement will directly and immediately positively impact his life.

    ENTER TO WIN NOW!

HOW BADASS IS THE CARBON BLUR LTc?
Totally badass. Here’s what Santa Cruz Bikes has to say about their coveted trail bike:

Take our beloved Blur LT. Now, make the frame a pound lighter, several orders of magnitude stronger and stiffer, make it out of carbon fiber. Make the whole frame out of the stuff, and use a proprietary one piece molding process that ensures maximum strength and minimal weight. The result? The strongest bike we have ever built, bar none. It’s a nimble, fast climbing, flex-free, confidence inspiring, trail bombing demon of a bike. Build it up however you want – there are no weight restrictions or fork travel limits to worry about – then ride it hard as you dare.
Visit the Santa Cruz website to learn more: http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/blurlt_carbon/

I WANT IN. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
We will be planning and hosting a ride and afterparty in Santa Cruz on a date to be determined in August to announce the winner. We will gather at Seabright Brewery and hang out on the back patio for food and drinks. Stay tuned for more information about that. But for now, please use the link below to donate and purchase raffle tickets. Every $5 donation will represent one raffle ticket. We will select the winner in person, but you need not be present to win. We will notify the winner the Monday following the raffle drawing.

Thank you for participating and good luck!!!

Are Canadians eligible for this draw? It's great to support a fellow mountain biker (plus I've got a thing for the SC LTc Blur )

I'm trying to get some 'parts' to sweeten this raffle a little more, stay tuned... And thanks for your kindness Curious, are you a hockey fan? Not that all Canadiens are hockey fans, just asking... I grew up in Boston so you know I'm very happy this year if you follow hockey.

Of course we're hockey fans - we're Canadian

    +1

When I was sick, my friends raised money to help me financially and it made a world of difference. So regardless, when something like this comes up, I try to help as much as I can regardless of whether I get a return (raffle prizes or whatever) or not because it's such a big help when friends and strangers pull together.

    You all really

have been so incredible...this raffle was just an idea back in May and to see where it has gone now just blows me away. I'm truly humbled by my situation and if it weren't for family and friends I don't know what would happen. The goal of $5000 was set as a reasonable goal for a bike frame. My situation sucks as I'm sure you all know and having to move because of this added more pressure. Now I'll be able pay my landlord the back rent I owe and stop the eviction process from going on my record. My landlord is a good person and helped me as much as he possibly could so it feels good to be able to give him what he's due. The eviction process was just covering his bases, a business decision that I understand.

Now that I'm in a new county it'll take time to qualify for their public health care program. And with budget cuts I was told that they(Toulumne County) may not be able to give me all the diabetic prescriptions I need for my daily living... well, at least I'm used to that answer. Anything over $5000 helps with this as I have no way of paying for what I need yet. Again, there is a plan and it is NOT living off the system. I want to work again! And be DwightStrong Ya'll are helping a brotha out in a huge way and I'm very grateful...

Edit: I think it takes place tomorrow.

I think its pretty amazing by the way that more than twice the goal has been collected.

glad to help out. I really do hope you can get your diabetes back under control and become employable again. My uncle was diagnosed a couple years ago, spent a lot of time in the hospital, and lost his job before he got things under control. he's doing pretty well these days all things considered, and is actually much, much healthier because diabetes forced him to make dietary changes he needed to make, anyway.

I will also be waiting for the phone call this weekend. I have rehearsed my acceptance speech over and over for this one.

We have a winner! Brendan Coursey of Green Oaks, Illinois won the Blur LTc frame through a random number selection. Congratulations, Brendan! And thank you to everyone who donated. You've made a huge positive impact in Dwight's life that will allow him to better manage his health issues. May none of of never need to know what it's like to be found in this situation.

Keep riding, stay healthy and live to the fullest!

    Cheers,

Happy for Dwight !! Hope he get his life back to what I call "normal" without really knowing how normal my life is... He's one of the few who really get it hard and we have to stand up and give some help to have them enjoying life as much as we do.

    And congrat Brendan

    Congrats Brendan!

I'll contact you either today or tomorrow... been on the road for the raffle but home now.

What a tremendous day... Wow! Any way to get a count on how many riders there were? I saw some people on the trails that I didn't realize were with our group... felt bad about that. Want to thank everyone again!!!!!! You really made a difference in my life and that is an unselfish and amazing gesture... This is an incredible example of humanity and when the entire story about the frame winner is told your jaws will drop, guaranteed. We're waiting for permission to write about it. Brendan, I hope I didn't 'step over any line' by posting this...and if I did I am truly sorry.

Dwight is getting DwightStrong so look out world, I have the opportunity to turn my situation around and I have a great story to tell But most of all I've been blessed to have sooooooo many amazing people in my life... I will never forget this By the way, Kyle Maxwell is a true hero and we need more people like him on our planet...

    Sincerely,
    Dwight
