Post Pics of your Fall Foliage!!

Fall is my favorite season. And MTB is my favorite sport. I wanted to share some pics from my fall rides, and I hope you will too.

These were taken at Great Bear Springs in Upstate NY. It's some old logging trails that are now owned by two local towns for Hiking, MTB, and Horse Riding. The bridges cross a natural spring, from which water was bottled for sale in the 1800s.

Thanks, I needed that; very refreshing! A gorgeous chill fall day, a hint of winter on the way and beckoning singletrack.
Rode yesterday at 6 pm and it was still HOT (90 degrees) and incredibly humid. Bleech. We're still about a month away from crisp fall days and changing leaves.

    Great photos!

Fall colors are just now starting here in the Ozarks, be another couple weeks before they really light up. I'll be posting some pictures then.

Colors are starting to show here in the Ozarks. Get better over the next week or so. Here's how it looked last weekend..

    Far ridge..

Doesn't look like it in the picture, but this is a pretty hard climb..

And a small purple flower along the trail..

Pix from the ride this morning. This trail is across the street from the University of Mississippi. Foggy and high 50s. Rained all day Sunday so the trail was in good condition. Early fall is the best before the leaves fall and almost erase the trails.

A local racing team, the Sweco Speed Project, does an excellent job maintaining the trails with a few big weekends in the late winter and then as needed throughout the year.

This is one of the older sections of trail with a nice series of banked turns:

The seasonal change in the pic below is just a little color: greener in the summer and browner in the winter, but always surrounded by downed leaves. You can see the green trail marker blaze on the right side of the pic.

    Some nice fall colors:

We still have a lot of green. We've only had one night near freezing so far. We're starting to get rain, though, which is taking the leaves (and dead branches) off the trees. The Sweco team did a lot of work last winter adding back some trails that had been lost by adding some features like this bridge over a downed tree:

Overall there are 20 or 25 miles of trails. Last winter these were organized into two large loops and two smaller loops, although anyone can jump on and off any of the trails. What is so impressive about this network is that it all sits between about 1 mile of rail trail (out of 3 miles total, the rest is bordered by private property) and a 4 lane highway. You can see the highway through the trees on the right side of this picture taken about 2 weeks ago:

It is actually on University property and located just 1/4 mile from the University proper. While I'd guess that most people in town know about the rail trail, few people know about the singletrack and even fewer venture on it. I have never seen more than 3 people on the singletrack outside myself or our group, and I probably ride 2 - 3 hours per week on these trails. All in a town with 15,000+ college students and 20,000+ full time residents.

Central Texas is still experiencing a normal Texas fall, with days in the 70s and 80s. Since we've had rain, and lots of it, things are growing and blooming for the most part and there is a final little gasp of a wild flower season. A few leaves are just beginning to change here and there.

For all the years I've ridden, walked and done trail work on this sport, I'd never noticed this gigantic lantana growing right on the margin of the trail; it is rangy, but easily 10 feet across, and is in full bloom.

Did a 3 hour ride today, beautiful clear sunny sky autumn weather just like in the pictures above. About 50 F. Lots of good skidding practice on all the leaves lol... Just a wonderful ride.

I need to start packing a camera...

Things are starting to "brown up" in southern NY, but still some bursts of color here and there. The colors and features in these rocks caught my attention on today's ride.

Fall felt like Winter today. A dusting of snow and 28 degrees (with wind-chills in the teens). But, it was a great ride at Stephens State Park.
