Otero Canyon Blow-out (Ride Report X-Post)

After years of hearing how great Otero Canyon near Albuquerque NM is/was, a friend and I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about this past weekend. Bodily harm, catastrophic equipment failure, and fear of arrest ensue!

Read all about this great ride in the NM forum.

I keep telling everyone NM has sweet singletrack. Here in TX the default mtb trip involves driving through NM to get to Moab and colorado... Little do they know what they are missing.

The swelling in my hand has gone down to where I can just about make a fist. Having to type all day, every day since Sunday (I'm a programmer) has not been kind to it, though: I've had to ice it every night, and dose up on way more ibuprofen than I'd like. Today it feels almost normal--until I forget to baby it, when it quickly reminds me just how long ligaments take to heal.

My ear, thankfully, has recovered enough to where I can no longer use it as an excuse. If there was permanent damage, it's too subtle for me to notice.

All in all, it could have been a lot worse.

Ah, yes. One of the all-time classic 94-Rock Rasta Records. "Guaranteed to have your best downhill time ever!"

Right up there with "Keep Tellin' Kids: Sister Ain't Pretty".
