Python that is.
Last night I finally was able to put all the elements together.
Getting out of work on time, having enough steam and stir craziness
I know a solo night ride was needed to really get the blood
flowing. So I go did a little bike maintence and lauched at
6:10pm. Just the right time to see the sun set and the moon rise
over the lower reaches of SoMo park.
I passed a cute runner. then got down to the buisness of riding.
When I reached the bottom of Corona Loma it was time to switch on
the light. The weather was perfect. And I was alone with the
desert and the stink bugs. I only saw one person after the runner.
but that tale comes in much later in the nights events.
I decided to mix it up and head out towards Telegraph. As much as
the "Lie Detector" -tm vato/mike inc.(a SS for the uneducated) was telling me I've been
much too lazy and drink what it deamed as too much beer, I felt like
I could ride all night.
As I was standing up trying to power up a climb one of the more
spectacular things happoned.
I heard a scurry and then saw a dark mass fly towards me. the beast
lept up as it came into focus of my head lamp all I could muster
This was the apex of the attack as the beast let out a war cry of
its own and a visous ninja kick. fortunatly for me my cry was
louder and it sailed over my front tire and receeded into the desert.
Yes, I was attacked by a flying desert ninja RABBIT!
It managed to jump directly over my front wheel as I was standing up
leaning over the bars. kicking about a foot from my face.
This of course really got the blood flowing. As I reached the base
of Goat trail, the view from the helipad took over, so up I went.
From that vantage point I saw only one riders light near Pima.
After hanging out for a while I starting the return leg.
This time the "devil" birds were trying to attack. they lay in wait
on the trail until the last moment then fly irracitally beaming
thier red eyes back at me.
Once I was back on DC I was a shawoy figure cowering on the side of
the trail. It was very afraid of my light. So I said the only
logical thing...."Hi Alex."
While he and i were chatting, his front bead decided that it's life
was over. If you havent guessed, Alex was the only other person I
saw since the runner. After a few failed attempt to reseat it, he
started the hike. I raced home and grabbed the car to save a few
hours of hiking for him. Alex gave me his beer, which he did have
to do. but man that was quite the beer. I think I owe you now Alex!
All in all just another quite night in SoMo.
