    My girlfriend rules!

I believe in earning the downhill. But if, you know, totally out of my control, life forces me to shuttle, well... who am I to complain?

I took a couple of friends out on a ride today, including my girlfriend. Because none of the other three ride regularly, and don't have the legs to do a 2000' ft climb, we took two cars and shuttled to the top. Rode the last 500 feet of climbing to the summit to keep them honest. We were most of the way to the top when I thought I'd see if Jess (my girlfriend) would fit on my bike – which she did. So now she's on my Moment and I'm on her 13 year old Trek hardtail with a SID upfront that's waaaaayyy overdue for an overhaul. And what's this? Her headset's almost frozen! The bike won't self correct! It's almost impossible to steer. No wonder riding isn't her favorite pasttime. And what a bad boyfriend am I, letting my girl ride this piece of ****. I say to her, "This thing is downright dangerous, baby. No way I'm letting you ride this down the hill." So I gave her my bike to take all the way back down to the car (after loosening her headset to the point of free spin and freer knockaround).

    Aaaannnyway...

Forty five mintues, an hour later, we're at the bottom. She's totally charged up on how much fun she's had on my bike, which, admittedly, is a pretty nice bike. I actually had some fun, too, remembering "hardtail values" of clean, skilled lines. We shuttle back to the car we've parked at the top, say goodbye to our other friends. I say, "You mind if I ride back down?" She says, "No problem, I've got my book, have fun."

So I get a second lap down the hill. On my own bike this time. It's beautiful, starts gently snowing, first time I've ever caught snowflakes on my tongue on a ride. This is a sweet, sweet buffed singletrack, whose toughest obstacles are puddles that may or may not be frozen. A bunch of jumps, sweet bermed turns, pine trees, cold air.... awesome!

I get to the bottom. Jess is amazed. "Twenty-eight minutes," she says. "I just finished my sandwich." And then she says – seriously, she rules – "you want to go do it again?"

    Hell yeah, I do! Awesome!

So, while I firmly believe in earning one's downhill, it's pretty hard to complain about getting three laps down the hill. Thank you baby!

Sounds like you "earned" your DH runs by NOT letting her ride the POS on her run

Exactly, I'm sure there are plenty of guys on this board that would gladly take (steal) her for their own. So she likes your Moment...hmmm, I have a Moment

Mine doesnt ride with me (yet, she is recovering from arm surgery) but she does understand the time and effort, listens to me when I babble about what bike I want next, what suspension design does what, and.... Plus she got me a watch too. It was a graduation/birthday gift from her and my friends.

    Its this one.

Nice watch, by the way. Where did she get yours? I am looking for one similar to that to wear on a regualar basis, nice, classic, and a nice enough to wear anytime, but without having to worry about breaking my other...Plus, I really like the simplicity and the swiss army watches Ive seen are nice, but have the leather band.

My girlfriend got me a 300 dollar Light & Motion HID light for xmas. What a girl. Shes a trouper. I took her out riding on her pos hardtail thats way to small for her and every time i checked behind me to see if she was ok she was right on my ass saying, hurry up!! I wish I could afford to get her a bike that fit. FS would be nice, but I think I'm just goign to see what i can get for her f500 on craigslist and get her a new hardtail like a hardrock or rock hopper with discs.

    Wifey rule too!!

For father's day, she gifted me with a cool Camelbak Lobo (those are almost double the price here in Mexico, so you do the math)

And she rules in the literal sense of the word too... she orders, I do.

This simple rule has allowed me to "buy" ride time and snatch bike stuff off our limited budget. Did I mention she's willing me to buy a new fork (as soon as our budget allows)??

    Damn... Nice girl I got!

Sorry. Seriously, you guys are lucky! Please remember that. It's a shame when you let it go to waste. Christmas should be like another Thanksgiving.

Not to put too fine a point on it...

...but she seriously rules, even more than before. For starters, ever since that last ride (see my opening post) she's basically been super excited to find a good deal on a FS she can be stoked to ride. This is cool for a whole bunch of reasons, not the least of which is that I've got a great excuse to comb eBay for bike stuff.

And secondly, for my birthday a couple days ago, she gave me a two-bike stand (for the living room, where all quality bikes should be stored ) and a new Camelbak, mere days after my last finally came apart at the seams (literally). No dumb cutesy stuff, just solid bike gear. And she baked me a cake!

    Jess, you rule!

    Good job!

I just have to chime in, my lady rules also. She will only ride fire roads, and she dosn't give a damn about bike stuff. The only thing she gets is that I have a passion, and that is what she supports.
Dang it, now I'm running a coolness deficit for sure.

You just described my wifey. Thanks for tolerating my passion and my spending, god knows its excessive. I do yard workand she says, baby, you can ride all day if you like.
I like.. I wish she liked riding singletrack, but hey the dog enjoys chasing me down the trails anyway.

    She rules!

On a ride this past summer, we drove to the trailhead to meet another couple(who first introduced the two of us) for a 4-5 hour ride on some pretty technical stuff. Well, when we got there, she discovered that she didn't have her shoes; only her sneakers. My friends and I tried to talk her into driving into town and buying shoes since this could be a painful ride with soft-soled sneakers......not to mention dangerous at points. Well, she refused to go back and "ruin" the day as she put it. She did the entire ride in sneakers, never once complaining......she never complains about **anything** at all.

Needless to say, after the ride, all 3 of us who watched her were quite impressed. I am glad I can call her my own.......and in 2 weeks we will be getting engaged. Would never let her go in a million years.....I honestly don't believe I could find anyone like her again.

    Love my gal;-)

Oh, almost forgot.....she got me a Suunto altimeter for my birthday for trekking in Nepal....at this point do I really need to say that she is the best?;-)

You guys are SO lucky. The girl I've been seeing just had the restraining order bumped back to 300 feet. Lucky I got binocoulars.
