This is a Cup Fungi, which are quite common in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains. But are often very tiny and easily overlooked.
Wow, some great photos in here. I usually don't ride with a camera, so I don't have any ride-specific photos. But, I do occasionally pick some edibles. Chicken and hen of the woods, and fortunately our puffballs and giant puffballs don't have any inedible variants.
No clue what it is. The ride to get to it is pretty killer though... not because of the technical terrain (its gravel roads) but more the multiple and not rolling 17% hills.
Ganoderma tsugae
Commonly called the Hemlock Varnish Shelf. Inedible, but valued in asian markets as an anti-cancer fighter when made into a tea.

Laetiporus sulphureus. Taste like chicken. Young and tender preferable to large and fibrous. Many other photos of this species on this thread, as it really stands out against the forest floor and tree trunks.

Found these Grifola frondosa yesterday. AKA Maitake, Hen of the Woods, Sheep's Head. Delicious with pasta and fresh tomatoes last night. Many pounds in the freezer also. September and October is the time to find these delicious treats at the base of oak trees.

I grow Shitakes but they're still sleeping....a few more weeks when it cools off they'll be busting out and ready to eat!
I had my first two flower up over the weekend, we've been getting a lot of rain and some cooler temps the last week. Before I thought about this thread and snapped a photo I had already harvested and cooked them up! Next one that flowers I'll try to remember to photograph before eating.
One was a beaut though.....bigger around than a bread plate!!
