A Little Hawaii in Florida ride..

This past Sunday was the SWAMP club's. 'Back to Boyette" ride.
After many months of making new trails and 100's of hours work we had a small gathering & ride ( about 80 or so) to launch the new trails.

Becky of course, had her usual "pool" at the sag stop and this time with some added Flavor from her recent vacation in Hawaii.

With tropical temp of about 80 and a good offshore(Palmetto?) breeze, everyone seemed to enjoy the 24-25 miles of singletrac.

As usual, Wes and Robert took enough pics to share the fun.

I heard somebody had to hitch a ride on a chopper out of Alafia yesterday. Do you know if that's true? If it is I hope they aren't too seriously injured!

    Re: Alafia Chopper Ride..

    No, don't know about that.

Alafia will bite, there have been plenty that needed a ride out, seems that people just tend to overide their skills there.

When we made those trails, we put up signs to let people know what to expect. I see people all the time that just should not be on certain trails.

Hopefully if they got the chopper ride deal, they are ok today.( or soon will be)

I got a question. Where are these trails located in FL?

I am down in Miami, Are these near Central Florida? Ocala, Lakeland?
I am looking to make a road trip next month for some riding.

    Re: Where The Trails Are

From Miami... take the toll road to Yeehaw Junction, get off going West on Highway 60. Follow 60 West thru Bartow & Mulberry go South(left) @ Hiway 39 for about 10 miles, Park is on the right. Camping is available but call ahead it's usually booked.

Start at Alafia, it will keep you busy most of the day if you do a couple laps.

Here's the park site.. use mapquest for complete driving info.

If you're up for Boyette, it's about 10 miles away by car.

If you're going to stay a day of so I'd suggest making you next stop either Redick(weekends only) or Santos, Both are in Ocala which is about 2 hours North.

Closer is Morris Bridge/Flatwoods about 30 minutes from ALAFIA.
Flat, rootey, bumpy and fast trails.. no climbs.

Check the SWAMP site for club ride dates and join us if you want.

I rode Boyette a bunch of times in February, being as how it's near my in-laws house. And I've ridden with Frank. Not bad considering I live in Colorado. I think I even recognise the turtle.

    RE: Colorado rider

Was that Frank on the hardtail( in pics) or Frank on the Ellsworth?
    ( Redriderpro)

We did a club trip to Maob and Fruita two years ago..

Boyette looks a little different in places now. Still not quite equal to
the "More Fun" trail( year right!) or even "MARY'S LOOP" but then again it's pretty much flat here too.
