Jefferson National Forest Ride - Roaring Run and Hoop Hole

Cross post from our regional forum

A Jefferson National Forest ride. Starting with a very scenic loop behind the Roaring Run furnace.

A few views along the way

The loop trail drops you back down to Roaring Run trail below the stairway section to the falls

    Back to the parking lot

Onto Iron Ore trail, beside the outhouses

For a long hard climb on an old iron mining road

This must have been where they loaded wagons with iron ore

A fair number of blowdowns along the way

Regrouping at the junction with the Hoop Hole trail

Onto skinny singletrack for a while

    I was there too

First of 5 or so creek crossings

Paralleling and crossing Hipes Branch a number of times

The creek was getting bigger and bigger, and deep

At the end, a crossing of Stony Run to insure no one had dry feet for the remainder of the ride.

Long ago this was a nice house

Great countryside, creek zipping along, beautiful trails. historic features, melancholy house, some long climbs. Just added to my list of trails.

I would love to but it is on private and posted land. My house is very similar to it so I think it was a common style along Craig Creek at the turn of the century.
