It's good to be the king.

If you read that title and didn't immediately smile while thinking of Mel Brooks, you missed it.

It'd be hard not feel on top of your game at this time of year.  Temps are friendly, wind has not (as yet) been a factor, dirt is heroic, local trails are constantly being neuterized to make mediocre riders feel better about themselves without actually having to improve.

All that, and there's still snow to be had even as the rivers start what promises to be a solid runoff season.

You'd have to be solidly in the curmudgeon category to do anything but enjoy April in the desert.

    Thanks for checkin' in.

Every shot is so well composed and tells a story. I really like the pic with the riders on the ridge. That road looks so tiny and far away.

You always post these amazing pics that tell a story. The one with your dog chewing the stick is great, is it a fish eye lens?

The Neutered Trails make me feel wonderful this time of year.
Discovering some newly built, un-neutered trails makes me feel wonderful in a different way.
Thanks for worrying about my mediocrity.

During the years I lived in SW Colorado, I always had the distinct feeling that my sap was rising in mid to late April.
thanks for the lovely reminder of springtime in the desert

That's a 14mm ultra wide angle lens. Different from fisheye in that the distortion is rectilinear instead of circular.

    Thanks!

    Enjoyed the post.

Neutered trails balance the poorly maintained ones.

    Mediocrity remains constant..

There are Pros and Cons when considering neutered trails. As my friends and I have aged we have been able to ride (and ski) the same terrain that was a challenge for us when we were younger. Our wives have benefitted from the taming of the trails and they now are able to ride many of the local offerings. We have much better equipment than we had back then and that has been a great help. In fact the wives have found trails they love in Bend, Hurricane and Sedona and now look forward to travelling to try new Mountain Bike destinations. Next up is Mountain Bike Oregon at Oakridge this summer. The rocky trails you love in Colorado, Utah and Arizona will forever be beyond the scope of most riders. We do love to watch you and your friends ride what looks to us to be impossible! Please keep thrilling us with your photos and accounts of your many adventures. All the best RM
