    Gosh, really--thanks.

About a month ago the intense busyness of summer began her slow, glorious fade into autumn. Like a slow exhale from a held breath, today that fade continues, allowing precious time and perspective to notice and appreciate the life that surrounds us.

Among other things, this morning I find myself thankful:

To live in and among a place where the natural world can still be seen, used, and appreciated as it is and as it was, not merely as we'd like it to be.

    No, thank YOU.

Thanks mike for reminding us how truly blessed we are and how the things that matter most are usually right in front of us (family, friends), or just out the front door (amazing and beautiful landscapes) and all we have to do is poke around a bit and there's plenty to be thankful for.

    Jaw-dropping images as always.

    Mike,

Beautiful pictures as always. I dunno, something about your posts...just leaves me breathless for a few minutes. It's a combination of your adventure, your photos, and the words you use to describe them. You are a lucky man. Best wishes.

This picture needs a caption from the guy on the right: "This "tube" you speak of, you want to put it IN the tire?!"

Those are amazing shots. I imagine mountain bike magazines contact you once in a while to do shoots for them. Since you shoot throughout the year, you ought to publish a calendar, with all the months reflecting their respective seasons. I know I'd buy one.

    Sweet

Love the post and pics you express the feelings that are difficult to say with words. I have to ask and no offense but what is that guy doing with the frisbee by the campfire? I only ask becasue I know what I do with a frisbee by the campfire. You would only know, if you are in the know. Maybe I am looking at it wrong but I had to ask. Cheers.

Where I'm from we call that a "plate", and we use it to contain our food just before consumption.

    YMMV!

Wow, if I could "favorite" a thread, this one would be it. The words. The faces. The love. Wow, what a poignant thread for today, your timing was perfect. Seriously, beautiful pictures of beautiful landscapes and beautiful people (and dogs too!). Thank you for taking the time to put this thread together.

Thanks for the reminder Mike, the older I get the more I realize what a short time we have to enjoy this mortal coil and all that comes with it.

Glad to see a bit 'o me backyard in the photos.

Open thread by MikeSee and see it has pics. Go reload my cup and take some time looking at the great shots. Excellent narrative too.
    Good stuff, as usual.

Nice stuff mike! We're you with doom in the black canyon? We finally got to meet him and do a ride over thanksgiving. As expected, he kicked my butt but we had a great ride. Maybe well look you up for a ride on one of our next visits to the area

    Hey Thor-

Yep, the pics here are from a Black Canyon/Gunny Gorge mission with Doom on a cold weekend in November. Did 2 other trips down there with him this year--see here:
Big Wheel Building: H is for hedonism.

    And here:
protect yourself: Gunnie Gorge packrafting x3

And yeah--that skinny sunumbeech sure can ride a bike.

Definitely look me up next time you're down, or maybe we can go boating sometime this winter in the NorthWet? From what I've seen y'all are having a helluva start to the boating season.

    Cheers,

    MC
